this shit is too kevin baconish...

who starred with Tom Cruise in A Few Good Men

and Tom Cruise starred in Top Gun.

TOP GUN PACK01
Mighty Wings
Danger Zone
Playing With the Boys

Yeah, but 6 Degrees of Kevin Bacon makes sense. Tedious link is more fun because where it goes, nobody knows!

Except, it always goes to me wanting Queen.

I've been lucky enough to not be up anywhere near the time he's on the air lately. I've got another month to uni...and Moyles.
Then the obvious solution is to wake up between 4 and 6:30 for Greg James instead. Flash flash!

if its popular then it must be hated... is a trendy thing to do

It's not that at all for me. I don't hate something just because it's popular. The problem is that top 40 is generally targeting the lowest common denominator and often ends up being bland, uninspired, and over-produced with little to no redeeming value. It's intended to be catchy and largely disposable.

You get the exact same thing with the film industry. Obscure doesn't inherently make something better, but often more obscure work is less focused on commercial success and often better able to bring something unique to the table that would be hacked out by marketing executives for not being familiar or profitable enough.

So you're looking at this from the wrong direction causally. Mainstream doesn't necessarily mean something sucks, but something that sucks and is mainstream frequently does so due to pressures and desires to be mainstream.

Something that only recently occurred to me is the complete and utter lack of local leaderboards in RB. I mean, ok, online boards are great, but what about giving me a little feedback on when I beat my own score? Or letting each character set scores locally as well as local scores in quickplay. If I have friends over I would like to be able to play with them and let them set their own records on my game, but I'd also like the option of not sending those scores up to the online boards because, well, I can be honest at times.

Your guitar point is not true.
Then what am I missing?

The whammy gives you overdrive on overdrive holds. That's it. Speed doesn't matter as long as you keep a fairly consistent pace. Going nuts on it is the same as moderately going back and forth. Freaking out doesn't get you any extra.

Fuck Topgun I want Rocky IV DLC

Rocky IV Track Pack
Hearts on Fire - John Cafferty
No Easy Way Out - Robert Tepper
Liiving In America - James Brown

Eye of the Tiger is already in Rock Band 2 so it makes perfect sense.

Not that I want to get into unfounded speculation, but with the Apples hint macro and the Nerdcore pack a virtual lock, does anyone else think that there's going to be a completely left-field pack to go along with it? The last time we had a "guaranteed" DLC assumption, it was the Disturbed pack, which was then announced to go up alongside the completely out-of-nowhere Jimmy Buffet pack, which turned out to be some of the best DLC that the game has seen. I'm just trying to think of what could contrast the likes of mc chris and MC Frontalot so much that they'd have to be announced at the PAX panel.

You're wrong. The faster you can get that whammy up and down the more overdrive you get. Gauge Away is the only example I can think of straight away; there's one SP phase before the first chorusy bit, with a bunch of held notes. You need to whammy on them to HELL to get enough over drive to activate upon the chorus. I played the song many times in a row before I was able to pull it off. Now, maybe your definition of "fairly constant pace" is such that you move it enough to pull that off, I dunno, but your speed definitely determines how much you aquire. So does the tempo of the song.

Dixie Chicks Pack 01.

Granted, there definitely is a limit and all songs grow the bar differently, but there is an upper limit as well that some people go WAY beyond.

Gouge.

Dixie Chicks Pack? would be interesting, and at least then I'd be able to get my wife to play. :)

Well, to get OD to a point I could activate it I had to go fucking crazy with it on Gouge Away. It can make a difference in situations like that. This is serious business after all.

How about Let's Actually Do More Region Based Songs Pack 01

Seriously, after the RB1 disc ones, no more DLC chosen for anyone other than American. Not suiting French, German or British tastes.

I just got in from work, gimmie a break! :( I think my success rate with that word is AT LEAST in the 90% range.

How about Pack Not Just Americans Will Care About 01?

Only Americans own the game. NO idea why!

There was that shitty Maximo Park song. I just want Arctic Monkeys. Basically all their songs would have great drum tracks, Whatever People Say I Am stuff especially. Who The Fuck Are Arctic Monkeys and View From The Afternoon = YES PLS.

The worldwide DLC reflects their worldwide attitude, it's a fair point.

And I'd like to again say I think The Wombats could be fun to play. And sure, it's more along the lines of pop, but Ida Maria's track is current, catchy, has the 4 piece and is stuck in my head. Probably a very easy song though, but it has some nice variation throughout. Now to be told I'm wrong on both counts. Possibly because people have heard of them, and possibly because they're not gonna be hard songs.

Just noticed that the bassist actually uses a pick on some songs when it's actually played with a pick (like, for example, The Pixies where Kim Deal uses Dunlop Tortex .88mm ... or as she puts it "The green ones with the little turtle on them". I like the 1.0mm myself, a bit less floppy) as opposed to just doing everything fingerstyle. It's this sort of incredibly minor detail that I just really appreciate.

I'm also convinced that the chart for "Here Comes Your Man" is slightly wrong. Coming out of the solo the bridge ends with a brief, slightly faster bit (two 16th notes leading into an eighth on the next measure then an eighth rest) before the main riff kicks in again, but it's not in the game for either guitar or bass. I mean, you can clearly hear it, but it just isn't there. It always threatens to screw me up because I'm so used to playing it that way.

Nitpicky in the extreme? Oh definitely, but dammit, this is the Pixies! Plus it's such a simple change, how do you miss it? Or am I just amazingly wrong somehow.

Ever heard the intro to Maps? Alt picking guitar, but no charting whatsoever.

Yeah, they used to be good about this sort of thing. It seems like with RB they tried so hard to make it easier that they chose to drop stuff out of even Expert. Which is just... seriously WTF?!? Expert should be, as much as possible, a note-for-note version of the song as played. I'd actually prefer it if they changed the name away from Expert even because that implies that it's some sort of "hard" mode and instead named it something like "Pro" or, well, I'm having trouble thinking of anything that conveys "accurate", but doesn't sound idiotic.

In these games the only "normal" mode is Expert with everything else an easier version of that. Nothing wrong with playing on lower difficulties, but it's true. That is, unless you want Neversoft-style overcharting.

Oh and on another minor, nitpicky point why after I pick "Random Song" does it then spit me back out at the song I just played? This means I have to scroll all the way back up to the top just to pick random again. Give it to me on one of the buttons or something. Make it easy to keep picking random each time. Hopefully RB2 will make this easier and also add the ability to pick random songs out of specific categories (e.g. by genre, artist, album, unplayed).

If you choose the sort button (I can't remember which it is, yellow?) it'll bump you right back up to "random song" when it sorts them.

Just hit yellow to sort back to the top then, easy.

I assume you know that the work around to this is just to push the change sorting button and you're right back at the top with the random song option.

So I was thinking about this and maybe I could just press the sort button to go back to the top? Hmm... might work. I'll have to try this out. Anyone know for certain? :D

Seriously, I've never been so gang-raped with advice. Never managed to even think about doing that.

The fact that there's still no Manic Street Preachers in either Rock Band or Guitar Hero baffles me, The Smiths are conspicuous by their absence as well, could also do with some Stone Roses in RB.

Skullcrusher Mountain? OH SHIT! OH SHIT!

"I’ve been patient, I’ve been gracious... and this mountain is covered with wolves."

Also, the Front with Brad Sucks, super awesome pack.
