OK, I managed to score a copy of this game this evening :)

HATE the new calibration screen. No idea why they changed it, the old one was fine! The new one asks you to hit the drum (I was using my drums) when you hear the drum through the speaker. The problem is that I lock into the rhythm instead of reacting, which maybe is not the point, so the entire first song I played I was missing everything because I was off by like 80ms. :(

Played a fair amount of the band world tour mode with a friend. Noticed that there are drum solos now...the songs seemed harder, maybe because they picked songs with interesting rhythms, so although I'm a mid-tier hard drummer, I was occasionally failing on low tier hard songs here.

Anyone know what the fastest way to unlock everything is?

I normally play on PS3 (100% DLC there...only the Harmonix pack courtesy of OXM and RB1 tracks on Xbox) so I'm getting used to the slight flakitude of my 360 kit, which I haven't played since the second week after RB1 came out.

If any of you have any questions, ask away and I will do my best to answer, no NDAs here :)

I think far more people are tone-deaf than you realize. Maybe it's just me though. I really need to spend a lot of time on ear training because, well, I'm absolutely terrible at identifying a pitch and sometimes at telling if it's higher or lower.

Identifying a pitch out of thin air (like if I played an E-flat and asked you what the pitch is) is very hard, and not many people can do it, it's called having perfect pitch. That doesn't mean you're tone deaf.

Telling whether a pitch is simply higher or lower than another, however, is fairly straightforward for most I believe (unless the difference between the notes is very minute, like when you're tuning an instrument, then it becomes harder), and that's all that would be noticed in this case anyway.

That's exactly how the old one worked too...

The whole point of the calibration is so that the game knows how much time it takes for YOU to hear the sound after it "sends" the sound out. If you locked into a rhythm on the old one, you were doing it wrong there too.

At least DLC as an option would be nice, I could see them wanting to have it out on shelves.

Could just be like a Halo 2 map pack thing, buy the disc to just rip the songs onto your hard drive. Either way, with Kotaku as the only source, I'll say that at best this seems like it could end up being the next Who pack.

How come you got the 360 version when you had all the DLC on PS3? Couldn't wait?

Nope. Since I already have a full band setup on 360, why wait? I'll get the PS3 version when it comes out and maybe I will sell my 360 version at that point :)

Umm, no.

RB1:
Slide the target left and right until the click and the flash line up.
Now play the notes as they pass vertically through the target.

Note that it is done this way so that the first part calibrates the lag between audio and video, and then you can either strum/hit a button to the visuals or the sound as long as you calibrated the first part correctly.

RB2:
Strum/hit a button/pad when you hear the drum.
Hit a button/pad when you see the needle hit either side of the meter.

Maybe they made it more confusing to sell more RB2 guitars :p

What is a good song to get the 90 seconds of overdrive achievement? I play guitar, in case someone offers suggestions for drums or vocals.

You've seen me bitch about this before, (the freezing on DLC load thing, unless I delete the updates) but I've been trying to get the game to run with the latest update so I can export.
The rockband.com tech support forums are suggesting that the only solution is to delete my save file. I am not amused. :/ What would really suck is if I deleted it and it didn't help.
EDIT: LMFAO... I made the jump and torpedoed my save file and my console still locks up when it loads my gamertag (if I start the game logged out) or when it goes to load my DLC. (if I start the game logged into my gamertag)

I just played "Peace of Mind" and it had some truly lengthy sections early on where you could really keep a lengthy combo of OD going. For on-disc stuff... hmm... I usually don't have too much of a problem keeping a combo going, but I can't think of anything off the top of my head. I'm on PS3 so I've never had to worry about it.

In terms of unlocking songs for Quickplay, tried Band World Tour at first, then switched to the challenges. I was doing the guitar challenges and continuing to go up in tier every time a new one unlocked. The songs are long, but you seem to unlock 10 songs every tier, so it is much faster than World Tour, where you unlock 2-3 songs per gig, then you have to star farm and all that crap, which slows you down. :P

Hmm... I didn't buy that track. Any other suggestions, preferably on-disc songs? Although I do have 60 DLC tracks, just not that one.

OK, so my Rock Band nightmare was caused by a POS little 596k file called "Rock Band Download Data" that was supposed to help speed up DLC loading. It made DLC loading time infinite, instead. Great job, Harmonix! Fuck you. Go hire a few super-nerds who actually know what the fuck they're doing instead of having 100% of your staff be burnouts.
The export is currently at about 40%.

I just releaized that there really is no reason for HMX holding back the European release of the game other than them being complete bastards....

JUST PRINT THE GAME FOR PAL MACHINES.... IT IS NOT THAT HARD... I DONT NEED NEW INSTRUMENTS

:(

You only just realised?

...keep up at the back.

But thanks to their gaffe with the PS3/Wii/PS2 releases I bet we'll be waiting until at -least- February before we catch a sniff.

Which is fucking annoying if only for the reason that the community for RB1 will pretty much be dead on my friends list bar the Euro's, which consist of about 5 people tops. One being Gowans. Who likes shiny things and never plays anyway.

:lol

I'll get online more I promise.

(Ghero 3 all the way this weekend tho for Metallica)

PS: RB went down a right treat the other day at a mates BBQ, had to tear a mate of mine off the drums in the end.

I don't know if anyone has brought this up, but I have RB2 and I was perusing through the new rock shop stuff and there's a new category called "Bandanas". This category has a bandana with the union jack on it and says a bunch of stuff about how it costs money to import and ship and produce this particular bandana and it costs $399 and they swear they're not gouging prices on anyone... I got a kick outta this. At least it can be said that Harmonix has a sense of humor.

:lol Awesome. I loved reading the descriptions for most of the shop items in the first game, can't wait to see the new stuff.

Yeah, not really all that funny if you're on the wrong end of that :/

Yeah, I discovered the challenges soon after I posted. Much faster! Plus you can save your progress during a challenge, which is nice since some of the infinite ones are crazy (esp. if you have a bunch of DLC)

I'll f'n choke them with their stupid bandana

So, put together a list of songs in Rock Band to have in the store, and realized there are a number of bands that have had music in the game that aren't on the RB disc...candidates for the 20 tracks, IMO. Just throwing out this list for fun. I'm assuming that the 20 are from 20 individual bands and that none of those bands are on the RB2 disc.

My alphabetical list is as follows (some with reasons):
The B-52's (fun, poppy 80's are severely lacking)
Blink-182 (obvious considering the immense download popularity of 'All the Small Things')
The Clash
Coheed and Cambria (based on the online play popularity of Welcome Home)
Creedence Clearwater Revival (if Rock Band didn't have any more CCR, it'd be a crime)
David Bowie (see CCR)
Foreigner
Freezepop (I'm still trying to understand a Harmonix game without them)
Garbage
The Hives (Harmonix used Main Offender a lot in promoting RB before it came out)
Iron Maiden (with all the talk surrounding RTTH, I think they'd want to throw more Maiden into the mix)
Kiss (pure, iconic, arena rock...there's not a single reason for RB2 NOT to have more KISS)
Motley Crue (just me hoping for early Crue)
Nine Inch Nails
Oasis
The Police (Harmonix seemed to give The Police a hell of a lot of love early on in RB)
Radiohead
Ramones
The Rolling Stones (would mystify me that Harmonix wouldn't have busted ass getting more than just Gimme Shelter)
Stone Temple Pilots
Weezer

Maybe if they stop trying to exremify everything among other things then I will be more excited for a GH game again.

Dude, it's no different from GH:2. GH:Aerosmith especially isn't overly "extreme". And all that nonsense has absolutely nothing to do with the gameplay anyway. It's like disliking Mario games because he's got a moustache, and you really hate them.

I'd say PoP:Warrior Within would be better suited for comparison. It drops some of what made Sands of Time fun (jumping and climbing), adds more combat and switches to really bad art design. It's still a good game, it just loses a lot of the magic.

I just really don't see a big difference between GH:2 and 3, really. I mean, yeah, I can acknowledge some bad design changes, but outside of old Judy Nails I think the character designs were pretty much fine, Lars especially. Besides, the only character design that matters is the shape of the notes and their colours.

Fucking hell, I can't download Charlene (I'm Right Behind You) because my US account is SILVER.

Not that I have Rock Band with me anyway, but still. Bitter tears

Just sign up for a new account and it'll be gold. Victory?

I had no idea this song even existed. I wish it was easier to watch The Colbert Report over here. Daily Show is aired every day, Colbert is on some bullshit channel I don't get.

I don't think we even get Colbert Report or The Daily Show on FTA anymore, and I don't have cable so everything I've seen of it has been online. Great shows though.

And like I said, since I don't have the game I'm not THAT desperate to download it yet, I'll just wait it out! I just need to complain really. NO ROCK BAND 1 IN AUSTRALIA YET WHATS GOING ON MTV?!?!

Good example. I think most people are in agreement that something bad happened to GH with the jump from 2-3, besides the developer switching, the timing window being off, and the charting being shit like adding stuff that isnt there. The only positives I will say about it is that it had a great tracklist(much better than World Tour's) and its remarkable Neversoft was able to get a close emulation of Harmonix's engine up in so short a time.

I just FC'd, Gold Stared, and for the Flawless Drumming acchivement on my first play through of Charlene.... I feel like I have cheated something :(

Can any of the US RB2 owners give their impressions of the new instruments? Are they wired or wireless? If wireless, do they use normal batteries or the 360 battery packs?

Cheers!

Wait, the Colbert song just came out today unannounced? SHIT.

Must go home and download ... why is it only 40 minutes into the work day :(

Oh yeah, Rock Band 2 owners, can you set the game up so only one player is using hyperspeed in multiplayer? So my character has it assigned to him, but my girlfriend's doesn't?

Anyone got a screenshot of this one? I require documentary evidence before I hunt them down and kill them.

The magic 8-ball says no.
