Technically we've been screwed (in a way) on this before. Boston didn't have "Let Me Take You Home Tonight". If Who's Next had been released as an album we would have had the same issue with "Won't Get Fooled Again". The aforementioned issue with "Wave of Mutilation". Harmonix seems to think that full-album DLC should often just be an expansion of on-disc tracks. Sort of a "you like the single, now get the rest of the album" concept. I'm of two minds on it personally.
At the same time this has nothing to do with the platform concept. That's basically just the idea that DLC and instruments will be cross-compatible. The main reason we're probably even getting the album is because "Peace Sells..." is in RB2. It's their modus operandi and well, you're pointing out an obvious flaw in that plan for people who want the actual full album. Just realize that it's likely not a sinister plot to try and sell RB2, but merely a flawed design to offer expanded tracks from the on-disc content.
I agree that they should try to focus on bands that don't have content on-disc or otherwise find a way that they won't be gimping albums. At the same time that also causes problems where they don't put out songs from great albums on disc so it's a double-edged problem all over again.

The tour pack sucks. I'm convinced that MTV is increasingly calling the shots with this sort of thing. We keep getting so very much terrible promotional DLC. I can't imagine that Harmonix would have willingly chosen these terrible bands. Even when we get decent promotional DLC it still feels unpleasant and forced.

I totally thought of that Elton John scene when you started quoting as well. It was so out-of-place and wrong. IIRC he asked to keep the costume after the shoot. I still find Jack Nicholson to also be rather disturbing in that film as well. Why was it considered a good idea to hire him and try to get him to sing in a British accent?

This is what we would term "cross-over hit" along with "complete bad-ass" and "his spirit will punish me greatly if I ever say anything bad about him".

Also I got the new drums today. I don't really have anything to test it on BUT the kick pedal feels a ton better and the pads are a ton quieter. Also I hope this thing doesn't eat batteries like crazy, that's my huge fear right now.
