Er.. What happened to the bass career mode I thought we were promised?

The song menus show you a score, but I assume it's defaulted to the guitar score, since you pick guitar or bass after you pick a song. That's in quickplay. In career. it shows us the number of stars we got on the right and the difficulty we beat it on on the left, and that also defaults to the guitar.

And when you look at the career leaderboards, there's no bass career option.

Lame. :\

But other than that, awesome game.

So when you pick your solo career, "bass" isn't an option?

Reports of this last week are why I stopped looking for a RB2 drumset and stayed with my RB1 for now. I saw a lot of people saying that the blue pad was activating the yellow pad.

Damn! I didn't see that come up. I actually went around to 4 or 5 different stores this morning looking for one. My friend picked up a set and I called him - his seem to be working fine at least. Shame though, it really is an improvement in a lot of ways over the old set... but you know... it needs to work for me to use it. Oh well - still having fun! Just glad I having a working RB1 drum set.

Whats the best way to unlock the songs?

What is there to unlock? Seemed everything was available in quickplay. I didn't do a hard count cause there's over 290 songs in the pool for me now, but yeah...seemed everything was there.

Wow, hyperbole much?
I'm a huge fan of Tool and The Mars Volta. For pretty much every band that they share World Tour has the better song of the two (except for Steely Dan, Bodhisattva is so fucking awesome). A lot of the songs I really like in RB2 are in World Tour.

World Tour is unfortunately an ugly game and I have a distaste for playing Guitar Heros for that reason (purple for the bass pedal? What the fuck?), but I do prefer the set list by a large margin. I probably won't get it just for TMV and Tool and the other songs because the drums would probably be pretty awkward and I'm not spending money on a World Tour one.

Basically, I want Rock Band to have The Mars Volta and Tool and I love it as a platform. Best damn music games out there.

Did Skullcrusher Mountain have hammer on chords in RB1? I was playing it in RB2 and noticed that was a pleasant surprise.

oh wow. holy crap.

Spoonman's drums are INTENSE. as are Bad Reputation. Insane pad skipping! amazing! Can't wait till Colony of Birchmen

edit:

holy FUCK teen age riot. screw that song.
I've been playing all morning. Focused on beating the drum challenge. I got to the Legendary Act. I was able to struggle through it with 21/25 but it was not very fun. That Colony song not only sounded like shit but the charting was miserable.

When I saw the setlist for the Impossible Drums Challenge I decided to just do it on hard. Trees and Everlong are fun (even on expert) but shit like Battery, Painkiller, and Panic Attack are just stupid. I wasn't even able to 5 star Panic Attack on hard so I tot 24/25 on it. I have no idea if I'll ever really try to beat it on expert.

It makes a lot of sense. Making the bass hit the same colour as the yellow pad in Rock Band confuses me sometimes; especially when you have overdrive being yellow to the left and the right of the fretboard as well. Purple may be ugly as hell, but it stands out behind all the other colours, which is basically what I want.

When you pick solo career, you go into the song list, and then pick a song, then either guitar or bass, then difficulty.

But the "difficulty you completed this song on" and the "# of stars you got on this song" ont he song list seem to be defaulted to whatever you get when using guitar on that song, not bass. If you play it, you'll understand what I mean better.

But most of all, when you look at the online leaderboards, it's just like the first Rock Band. Pick Leaderboards, then Solo, then either Guitar, Drums, or Vocals. The top option is "Career Leaderboard".

If you pick the Bass leaderbaord, there is NO option for "Career Leaderboard" at the top.

Maybe I read it wrong in the past, but I could have sworn I read Harmonix saying there would be an actual bass career, and it seems just like it was in the first Rock Band.

GH4 was also promising a bass career, so I hope they don't drop the ball too.

That sucks. As much as I laugh at bass in these games having another career to go through, even if it's a bit dull, would have added to the amount of game I'd get out of Rock Band 2. I'd basically have 80-odd other songs to go through and try and gold star.

From the videos I've seen I didn't think the color stood out that well from the background. I think they should have rehauled GH's style for this release to make it more colorful because I was trying to think of a color that would fit into the style to take place of purple... and it's not that easy. Oh well.

I might warm up to it after I play it though.

If you're in Montreal, check out GameBuzz on Tuesday, they'll have the english only version for $60.

Um. I'm in the UK. The 'fuck you' was directed at anyone claiming that parts of Canada were the only places not getting RB2 today.

And seriously, fuck them. Right up the ass. With a drum throne.

Temporary band logo while we build a new unicorn.

Haha, that's solid.....is it hard to make 'em? I haven't really messed with the logos. That would be awesome if they woulda let us upload jpegs

In the direct feed videos I've seen I think the bass kick stands out well in World Tour.

I agree it looks really, really ugly compared to Rock Band. But I think it's also designed in such a way that when I play, everything is easier to read and understand.

everlong = :O

edit:

holy shit, beat battery first try. INTENSE.

two hardest songs left..

I've beaten painkiller in the other challenge.. and 70% panic attack.. I'm sweating hardcore, here goes!

Exactly how I feel.

And I've talked to bassists who just feel kind of left out. They know they play the "lamest" of the three, but would like to go through a real career with their instrument.

Well if you really think about, how many actual bassists went on to start their own carreers?

Sting doesn't count he was also the singer!

There is a "bass career" you have to go into tour challenges and once you do the fender warmup you unlock the second tier of challenges and you can start the bass career there.

Went down to GameStop. Put another $25 down on both RB2 and GHWT. Got the T-Shirt.

They ASSUMED they would get another t-shirt shipment for the PS3 launch, I made them doubt that. Got a T-shirt just in case.

So can someone clarify as to whether or not Jukebox mode is still in the game? From some of the comments here people haven't been able to find it.

That's something. I guess I just want a big list of songs, with my bass score displayed next to them, and my star rating. Basically guitar solo career from RB1 but with bass. From the sound of it I may not even get that with guitar, so I guess I'm asking for the unthinkable.

Question? Are drums insanely hard?

I've been doing a mssively nerdy thing, playing along to gameplay vids (I dont have access to RB or GHWT yet in OZ). I don't know if I'm going to be able to play cos it's hard enough just trying to keep up with the foot pedal?!?!

How did you guys who had never played GH or a real drumkit progress? Was it a slow process? Did you start on easy/medium and work up to expert?? Is it easier with the drumkit in front of you?

Help!

on the RB forums the devs keep dodging the question and answering other things. I have a funny feeling it was cut.

Do quickplay scores get counted into the solo career scores? And if so, is it only RB2 disc scores that get added in?

I ask this because I'm playing a solo tour so my "band"'s career score is my solo drum score. Since it takes quite a while for the Rock Band leaderboards to refresh it's hard for me to answer these questions myself. I've played RB2 disc songs in quickplay and I know for a fact that those don't get added into my band career score. It may've been added to my Solo career score but I'm not sure. When I played the song on a create a playlist it increased my career score.

Ugh, it's all just really confusing. Harmonix, please patch in a traditional career mode. (I also wanna see the difficulty and stars I've earned on each song. I must log me some gold stars!)

Dumb question, but are there any videos of somebody just going through the menus of Rock Band 2, so I can stop asking questions that could be answered with 4 minutes of video?

Not really. It's just like making decals in Forza Motorsport. You just use shapes and fiddle with layers to get the look you want.

Though they did change the sizes in which you can scale things, so our old logo can't be created anymore :( It was a purple unicorn, puking up hearts.

Help!

The drum trainer in RB2 seems like it could help newbies out quite a bit. There's around 74 beats to practice, and you can control the speed. Seems like a fun and non-frustrating way to learn common beats, I've been having fun messing around with it.

The songs are completely unlocked?

Holy fuck. Panic Attack COMPLETE.

I can't believe I beat battery still, and panic attack has to be one of the funnest drum songs hands down. It's actually not too hard except for one part where he's doing two completely different beats with hands and feet. oh man. SO good.

now I gotta figure out how to unlock visions so I can fail at that. I think there's still 30+ songs missing

Awesome. Being in Australia, I don't think I'll ever see RB2 though. Is there similar in RB or GHWT?

You are a god. I wussed out and dropped to Hard without even trying it on expert; save myself the ass-whopping.

yeah I finished it, and unlocked more challenges of course, and there's so many songs I forgot about that I was looking forward to!

as if the game already didn't last forever, there's still craploads of challenges to do, and I haven't even started the World Tour mode yet! Yeesh!

I almost freaking forgot a7x and Peace Sells was in the game! I'm gonna see how many I have left over after this setlist.. it's crazy delicious.

edit: in other news, Ramblin man is the new Truckin' in terms of drum charts. Kill. Me. Now. >_<

I see they didn't change any of the tiers for the older songs.

Rock Rebellion harder then Snow, Constant Motion, and Sleepwalker? :lol yeah right.

Just wait til we get our free 20 DLC songs in the coming weeks....

SCREW YOU OHIO. I got the game, and was playing happily. 7-8 songs in the power goes out. Someone thought it would be funny to make the wind randomly super strong. The Power JUST came back on. ...grumble...

Fuck. I completely forgot this game was out today. Went to Wal-Mart to try and grab it 20 minutes ago and they tell me they never even got it in. Hopefully there will be copies available in Toronto, tomorrow.
