What up, peeps? Just finished Dead on Arrival on expert drums :D. I'd been stuck on that song for almost 2 weeks (I got the drums about a month ago), so this feels even better than RttH on hard.

holy shit peace sells is awesome. all the guitar parts are off the chain, I'm so excited! could only played two this morning and DAMN! So FUN!!!

I look forward to whatever album is next week. Just keep pumpin em out!

Harmonix benefit from being with MTV, and I benefit from having another company making rhythm games of a high enough stature to get awesome songs. Looking back I'm glad they split. Especially now all hardware works properly.

I have to do an audio rant, so please feel free to comment if I'm insane or not.

*This is with Dolby turned on

1. The Mic Volume option barely does anything. I have it turned all the way down and I can still very noticeably hear myself sing through the speakers. I hate this and it was not like that in RB1.

2. The instrument mixes seem way off. Even when playing RB1 dlc, many guitar sections seem a lot quieter/not in the limelight like they should be. I've noticed this on most songs but the two that stood out the most last night were Toxicity and Peace Sells on guitar. I messed around with drums too and they all seem too quiet, especially during fill sections.

So I sorta fixed my drums by following this tutorial on RB's forums in case anyone cares or has/had the same problem that I was having:

http://www.rockband.com/forums/showthread.php?t=81358

Seems to do way less crosstalk now and I'm satisfied but I may mod the drums a little further if it becomes a huge problem later on by just trying to switch sensors (if that's possible) with the RB1 drums to see what would happen.

Either way I voided my warranty but I don't care, it works!

Just tried that and it fixed my minimal crosstalk with my blue drum completely. Now I don't have to tape an edge. Drums = perfect now :D

basically i just want better instruments with rb. also the relationship was synergistic in the sense that gameplay and peripheral innovations could feed off each other. ultimately it's not a big deal as i'm just getting the ghwt bundle, but it's too bad that synergy is lost.

I noticed this as well. There are a few parts in Pinball Wizard where the drums volume increases a ton for no reason at all. I've got The Who: Ultimate Collection and the version on that CD sounds nothing like the game version.

I have to agree...a lot of the songs sound like complete garbage in 5.1 this time. I switched to stereo and let my reciever simply duplicate that signal in my rear speakers'.

There was an HMX song in there that sounded like a ghetto blaster running through a fuckin' pillow or something.

I dunno what happened, but there is a very noticeable difference in the surround mix and it's not for the better.

I must say that I can't believe these charts are exactly as bad as GH3's and nobody has said anything. Random hammer ons, ridiculous chord hammer ons, chop suey, it's all really bad. What happened to the guy who made the chart for live forever?
Eh, Chop Suey seems fine. I think it's just how SoaD plays, BYOB was charted in a similar way.

I do think One Way Or Another is charted poorly, but that impression could be because it was the song I tested the calibration with, and thus played poorly. I'm not convinced with the chord hammer-ons either, and I think the charting for hard difficulty may be messed up after playing Battery and coming across almost no hammer-ons, but the charts for everything else on expert seem perfectly fine. Some songs are actually charted very well IMO (Almost Easy, Living on a Prayer, etc). If there is poor charting, it's not nearly as evident as GH3. You're not seeing an extreme amount of 3-note chords, nor are you seeing notes just thrown in for the hell of it.

Just about every song in Rock Band 1, 2 and DLC is like that. The audio mix for every song is altered depending on which instrument you're playing. Try playing bass to make it really obvious.

Its funny you should say that because I just played bass on a song for the first time and heard a difference there. Though, the loud drums on Pinball Wizard occured while I was playing guitar. Maybe I had just finished a guitar solo, so it was just going back to "regular" volume and not neccessarily getting louder.

The GH:3 version of Almost Easy has way better charting for the opening lead guitar riff. 4 notes compared to Rock Band's 2! Double your pleasure, double your fun!

Actually, the differences in charting between Almost Easy on GH and RB show one of my most hated things about the new Harmonix style; this fixation they have with having you hold down one fret and just move one finger between another couple for chords, rather than making you move your whole hand a little more. I find it really unsatisfying to just be moving my forth finger as opposed to my whole hand. It's the one thing they really have changed since GH:2.

God, this thread makes me dizzy. All I want is Moving Pictures content. Is there ANY update??? Have they basically thrown their hands up on this and they just aren't saying so?

Neversoft charting to make it harder on purpose, etc.

There's been no comment since "it may be a few weeks!"

The charts are done so I doubt they will be just forgetting about it.

I have a feeling it has to do with the ability to purchase YYZ outside of the game on Marketplace, disconnect from Live, and then go into an unpatched version of the game (thus breaking it if you try YYZ vocals).

Somebody brought this up as a possible scenerio shortly after it got delayed and it sounded pretty good to me.

They are probably making a way to make the songs not even show up if you don't update your game as that would really be the only solution.

Supposedly my drum rocker order is supposed to ship within the next 24 hours. How long did it take most of you guys when the order shipped to reach you?

don't forget that HMX has said previously that they mix the songs themselves so you hear things you wouldn't otherwise.

Oh you mean like TAMBOURINES IN ALL THE FUCKING METAL SONGS?

I wish I was joking...

Anyways, I guess I'll try turning off surround sound tonight and see what that does. I'm more pissed about the mic volume anyways. Either one of two things will happen if someone walks down the street in front of my house:

1. They hear me death metal singing the metal songs for fun.

2. They hear me trying to mimic a prepubescent girl to sing Duran Duran or something. Horribly.

Damnit I want the new guitar so bad after reading that.

Come on EB, call me today and say its in.

This is interesting:

As for the auto calibration. I have successfully gotten the video to work. I had to turn my lights and my computer monitor off and it worked just fine. As for the audio calibration, I am still working on it. I have turned off all other sound producing items in my room and still am unable to get it to pick up any sound. I turned it all the way up, medium, and near silent and still have gotten nothing. I am sure it is not broken and that I am simply missing something.

Was thinking of getting it just for the auto-cal but we'll see.

Sounds like a broken speaker in the guitar. When I get my guitar I will test and post results.

They said it wasn't a technical problem

Also, I have unlocked all the songs except Visions. In World Tour, I know of only two ways to unlock it: there's the standard gig in Iceland, and there's the Harmonix gig with all the bonus songs, including Visions.

The thing is, for some very cruel reason, the standard gig makes you play it on Hard or Expert. No Easy or Medium. What's worse is that Visions on Hard is harder than Peace Sells on expert, especially since you're forced to strum everything, and even on hard everything looks like this:

Picture1.png

With the Harmonix setlist, I could play it on medium and (I think?) easy, but I'm forced to play through 30 min or so of generally mediocre songs.

I guess what I'm asking is, well... is there a third way to unlock Visions (ignoring random setlists and the challenges)?

From here.

I asked Teasdale what his dream track would be for Rock Band, and a big smile crossed his face. "I can't tell you... because it's coming up soon as downloadable content. Ask me this question in a month, and I'll be able to tell you." I pressed him for details, or a more specific timeline. "Something big is coming, very soon."

According to his blog, Dan's favourite band is AC/DC, by the way.

I beat that Visions song on expert guitar on my first try... barely. I was hovering in the red most of the time.

What a horrible song.

Man that review for the guitar was glowing. Maybe I'll buy the band kit for GH:WT and get the Harmonix guitar as my backup. That way I can play with the first party guitar for the respected games while still being able to have a full band over at my place.

The hype for these two games is growing daily :)

I have 2 DLC Questions.

1.) Back on launch day for RB1 I bought the Metallica Pack and Joker and the Thief. Yet for me to play those songs my xbox needs to be connected to Live, something I can't do in my dormroom. If I remember correctly I bought these songs at my friends house with either my HDD on his xbox or I recovered my Tag on his HDD. My Xbox was RROD. So I deleted the content and re-downloaded both of them yet I still need to be online for them to work. What gives?

2.) My friend some how got Live to work by bridging his connection through his Desktop, I didn't bring my desktop here so my laptop can't do it. If I brought my HDD over to his 360 and bought songs there would that screw anything up like what happened in my 1st question/example? Or would it just download and work normally after I re-attached my HDD to my xbox?

Thanks

Thanks for the Rush 'update', everyone. Harmonix 'wall of silence' is weird...
generally when it comes to licensing or partners, there is no choice but to be absolutely silent. When it's a technical issue you can say "we're having problems getting certain things working." When it's a certain person or group by saying even "we're having problems with certain rights or licenses" it ends up being taken derogatorily by people and usually can only apply to 2-3 different groups involved in these sorts of things.

long story short. when they give a little more info, it's usually technical. when they give almost no info, it's usually legal.

:lol

Is this accurate? Is the vocal part of this game this freaking broken? How did no reviewer notice this?

edit - it's ***'ed out... the site is joy-stiq. anyway, the video shows someone getting a 100% rating on expert by reading the Declaration of Independence in a monotone voice....

The talking sections are different in RB2 - basically if you say anything during them you hit them. And a couple songs are 100% talky, like "So Whatcha Want" and "Testify".

You need to transfer the licenses to your 360 (content is tied to system + HD, not just HD). http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/licensemigration/

my internet connection got knocked down yesterday so my stream broke down. (sorry dave) :(

Anyway it looks like Amazon is prepping my ION drum kit for shipping. should be getting it tommorow. can't beat 3.99 overnight shipping.

/bow to Amazon once again.

I should back up in running tommorow!

I'm on the same train as you. Every Friday I light a candle wishing that Moving Pictures is scheduled for the next Tuesday, along with a "Sorry for the delay! Here it is!" note from Harmonix. I just can't believe how they pulled out on the very last second and kept extremely quiet about it. All I wished since Rock Band DLC albums were announced was Moving Pictures...

I'm going back to cry in my bed. The amount if disinformation regarding what is happening with Moving Pictures is really, really sad.

1) goto xbox.com, sign in, and do the license transfer to your new box.

2) yes, it'd mess things up... DLC is tied to HDD AND Console S/N, that's why you need to do the license transfer for the DRM stuff to work offline.

I love the new talky phenome thing on RB2. I destroyed my old scores from RB1 with it.
