Damnit, the more I think about it, the more I realize how ridiculously under-represented this genre of music is. Hell, out of 357 songs, we have a single track from one of the most influential music scenes in the past 30 years.

I don't know, what is that thing called? A steel pedal guitar? The motherfucker from "Father To A Sister Of Thought"? What the fuck instrument is that?

It goes like "TWEWERNTTWERNEWDEW"?

What is that?

Injured bird?

Nevermind, will listen to Skullcrusher Mountain now...

edit: most of SKMM is just an acoustic guitar. The chorus is played by a slide guitar, most likely with a steel sounding board.

UKRBers: Eurogamer Expo tickets are available at http://expo.eurogamer.net/ if you guys fancy a meetup... sadly, haven't yet got confirmation of GHWT or RB(2) being shown: will try to tomorrow. I'll be there both days though (yay press pass), so you guys can fight over which day we organise it for :P

My Rock Band 2 disc is unreadable now. I took my disc over to my friends house, and she went to plug the microphone into the back USB Port when the disc was spinning. She lifted the back Xbox up slightly to plug it in, and then the disc went unreadable. Awesome. Hoping Best Buy's return policy is awesome :(

Fuck, my disc is unreadable too but I didn't fucking touch my xbox. My disc has a big scratch in it from god knows what. This is fucking stupid!!

My GH2 one is scratched, which made the wait for RB hard, but also a bit sad when Dave was talking about playing Dead! the other day. I loved playing that in GH, despite not liking the band in any other context. (edit: me talking about playing it the end of last year, also features playing the game behind my head - starts 6:30 http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=sUT0XYrToUE)

Totally agree! Not at all a big MCR fan but Dead! ROCKED.

I think the chords are hammer ons in Rock Band 2, which, also, is awesome.
Hammer-on chords are completely broken. On some songs (intro to Battery, for example), hammering on a chord is just impossible while on other songs it works as well as a regular HO.

I love Dead!, and secretly enjoy MCR outside video games. Black Parade is a good album. I don't dig much of their earlier stuff though.

I had two copies of GH2 become unreadable. Activision replaced the second one for £10. <3 them.

I've found that too. The seem to work when they want to, specifically on that Lazy Eye song.

That's you? Huh. You did that pretty funny Deal or No Deal dvd review a while back right?

Your stuff is pretty entertaining.

Dead! was my show-off song. Like, not just "oh I'm so good at this game", a "I'll get 95% on it, you may get 96% sure, but look I've changed from holding guitar normal to behind the head to through the legs mid song. So fuck you." Freebird was also good to mess around in with the intro, and do a one hand to the sky, and then "OH YEAH LOOK AT MAH SKILLLZZZ" in the solos.
And fail.

I don't really have any "oh I'm awesome" show off songs on RB... maybe because of a lot of band play. Simple Man is a good one as the fretwork might look a bit complex to someone who doesn't play the game, you've got the solo on the buttons (easy to change from main frets to those on it) and there's some sustains that are good for giving you time to dick around. On drums? Perfekt Welle on Expert maybe... and for something plus vox, Crushcrushcrush because it's the song my inability to sing does well on.

However, this second I'm playing Who Are You while eating jelly babies. SimAnimals jelly babies!

And yeah, Deal or no Deal was mine. Cheers for the comments! I really should make videos, well, regularly. But there's no time for that, RB calls :P

I like the idea of them. The thing that concerns me is that if they have as tight a timing window as normal HOPO sections they won't really make much sense. You won't be able to slide without fucking up.

I spent a bunch of time messing around with the RB2 manual calibration settings (I don't have the new Strat), and decided to make a short video explaining them clearly and simply (I hope). I used this method to calibrate my system, and it works really well. So if you're confused about exactly what the settings do, and which way you need to move them in order to sync up the game, this should explain all of that. I use the drums as an example, but obviously this also works with the guitar.

Video: Tommy Gun's Rock Band 2 Manual Calibration Guide (done in papercraft!)

takes a bit to get used to but is not that bad

I snagged the new Strat today. Gotta say, I love it. The strummer is sturdier, the buttons are quieter, and the overdrive switch actually works as advertised. The auto-calibration works near perfectly. The option to use a pedal to trigger overdrive is something I've been wanting forever. It's a shame the pedal can't be used as a wah-pedal in place of the whammy bar.

Speaking of the pedal, are there any third party overdrive pedals out there? The cable on the drum pedal is coiled so tightly that it often snaps out of the bottom of the guitar.

Dave, if you are on a Primus kick right now...check out Oysterhead. When the powers of Primus, Phish, and the Police combine...interesting to say the least.

For you the day you might have downloaded some more free DLC tracks could have been the most important day of your life, but for me...it was Tuesday.

Bah, the paper down the neck of the Les Paul helped make the Green button more responsive, but now the Red button is starting to crap out. Fuck.

can you guys recommend me some Presidents of the USA songs? I really like Lump. (heard it previously but RB reignited my interest)

post youtube links plz

Love Everybody
Boll Weevil

It's really hard to find YouTube links, which makes this more awkward than it should be. If you like those songs enough to care, I like Kitty, Feather Pluckn, Death Star, Body, Naked And Famous, Tiny Explosions, Some Postman and Highway Forever. I recommend their first album and Love Everybody a lot. Pretty much all their songs are great little pop tunes though.

I'm a little sad we'll likely never see Daft Punk as DLC. I don't care how repetitive their songs would be, I like them! :lol

Grab Boogie from a bargain bin. It has one singable Daft Punk song. That's as close as we'll get until somebody makes MPC Hero.
