I spent a bunch of time messing around with the RB2 manual calibration settings (I don't have the new Strat), and decided to make a short video explaining them clearly and simply (I hope). I used this method to calibrate my system, and it works really well. So if you're confused about exactly what the settings do, and which way you need to move them in order to sync up the game, this should explain all of that. I use the drums as an example, but obviously this also works with the guitar.

Video: Tommy Gun's Rock Band 2 Manual Calibration Guide (done in papercraft!)

I found the easiest way to guage audio is use the microphone on pause in a song. Simply try to make it so there is no echo.

Playing Carry On Wayward Son brings back memories of Frets on Fire. But then I get to them part about 3 minutes in. The backwards hammer on fuckery that I wasn't able to do then and still can't do now :(

edit: and oh look, I won another song from Stride

Then I saw the Infinite Metal challenge

Metal Challenges! DO WANT!!! I beat the impossible guitar challanges on expert a couple days ago. What's on the Metal and Infinite Metal challenge.

PUSA is awesome:

Favorite song: Dune Buggyhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MB1H7em6LiY

"Spider woman in the front seat screaming 'go go go,' He's riding the accelerator down to the floor with his fuzzy little toe-woe-woe-woe"

I also know that the lead singer guy wrote porno music at one point.

PUSA is one of the funniest concerts I've ever been to. They play with one and two string guitars and at one point the guy realized that he didn't have the right guitar for the guitar solo so he says "Fuck it!" and starts singing the solo in a high pitched voice going "wah nah nah nah naaaah." Hilarious.

oh great more the cab songs coming to rock band! from their official myspace:

hey guys!

so the other day, i was sitting around eating (my favorite hobby) and i get a text from a friend saying "what the hell is up with "One of those Nights" on the Rockband game?" I was so confused. They explained that there was a whole different chorus. I figured my friend was just an idiot and went back to eating my delicious cheeseburger. An hour later...i got two more texts and this time they sent me the lyrics to the new chorus. My stomach did a backflip and my heart fell to the ground. Anyways, to keep this short...someone somewhere along the way made a big boo boo and sent Rockband version of the song. We're a band that loves to experiment in the studio, so we recorded a few different choruses to the song...just messing around and trying different feels out. The chorus on Rockband just happens to be one of those experiments. At first we were really mad and bummed, but now we think it's kind of cool. We're sorry to anyone that we bummed out..it wasn't our decision. It wasn't because of copyright laws. Someone just made a mistake. It's kind of like a limited version that the world would never had heard without the mess up. Try to embrace it as we have. It's a rare track. We love you guys..and we promise we have another song coming to Rockband VERY VERY soon. Keep your eyes and ears peeled. We really are sorry, but there's really nothing we can do. We were just as bummed as some of you guys are. Surprisingly, we've actually gotten alot of positive feedback on it..and some people even like it more!!! anyways, i'm going to go eat something. i'll post again soon :) and see you guys on the ROCKBAND LIVE TOUR!

What do you mean? Just try talking into it and see if there is no echo?

Problem with that is the varying differences that the instruments have in terms of individual lag. Tommy Gun's guide at least seeks to find a medium between them.

Metal Challenge is Almost Easy, Colony of Birchmen, Ace of Spades, Peace Sells, and Souls of Black.

Infinite Metal Challenge is every single song you have that is metal. So for me, it's 39 songs.

All of those are actually really easy, excluding Peace Sells (which I finally beat today by hoarding overdrive and cheesing through the part after the first solo). I should try it.

The infinite metal challenge that you described, however, sounds completely retarded, especially when you include Sleepwalker, Blackened, and Ride the Lightning. And Painkiller. Wtf.

What? Alright, I'm scared now. No more online BWT.
It's not necessarily online BWT, it's ANY BWT. There's a huuuuuge thread over on the official forums. My band and all of my characters disappeared and one of my friends characters somehow got attached to my gamertag. And because I lost my band and my characters I lost all of my progress. I can't use my original band name either because it's already taken (by me obviously).

I'm going to miss Enter Sandman. :'(
I don't care about the other two (great songs, but not that fun to play).
But, Enter Sandman.... WHYYYY??

I won't, I've played it enough for 1 lifetime. Every time I played online, it was chosen. Every time. Sometimes twice when no one had any DLC (90% of the time)

Tell me about it. My friends know I'm not that fond of Metallica and deliberately pick it every time we play. And I'm usually on vocals which bores the shit out of me.

Just to get an opinion out there, I want to order 2 of these Mad Catz guitar stands. It holds 3 and I'll have 6 wireless guitars next month.

Is it a good price for something that looks solid?

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001DNK7BU/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Also, it seems to hold them by their headstock. Do you think the Nyko guitar will hold in place if one of the sides is flush with the neck?

Also, what about for generic guitar carrying cases?

UKRBers: Eurogamer Expo tickets are available at http://expo.eurogamer.net/ if you guys fancy a meetup... sadly, haven't yet got confirmation of GHWT or RB(2) being shown: will try to tomorrow. I'll be there both days though (yay press pass), so you guys can fight over which day we organise it for :P

Would love to but I'm not in London anymore, so I don't think I could stomach visiting just to be disappointed by a public show :o

Yay, I'm in the top 10 for this one! I fell behind in the RB1 thread because of the EU release wait.

All you Euro's are in the top ten here because you're so far behind in the releases of the games, while I spend all my time playing. :D

For further proof, Activision is timely in their Guitar Hero releases, and look at the top ten for the GH thread.

Does anyone have a list of the instruments and clothes you unlock when you beat impossible challenges and the rock immortals set?

Aussies :

http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/911/911920p1.html?RSSwhen2008-09-21_173000&RSSid=911920

After one of the longest delays in gaming history Aussies will finally be able to get their hands on the original Rock Band on 7 November 2008.

PS3, Xbox 360, Wii and PS2 owners will be able to buy the game and instrument pack for a surprisingly reasonable $250 AUD. They can also opt for the game and drums for $180 AUD, guitar and game for $140 AUD or an additional guitar for $90 AUD. The only real difference in pricing between the consoles is the standalone game, which will retail for $100 AUD on PS3 and Xbox 360, $70 AUD on PS2 and $90 AUD on Wii.

Welcome to the party, Australia :)
I've already left to go to the party up the road that isn't starting a year late.

And now Australians get to buy the RB1 instruments the rest of the world doesn't want anymore for the same price they could've imported them from the US in November last year! Yay!

I would say $250 is reasonable except
- It's over a year late
- It's the reject instruments that are leftover from the US/Euro markets
- GH: World Tour can be had for only $287

So, it's not really

I'll be buying GHWT. Superior hardware is the deal breaker. I'm not buying leftovers. That and the whole delay bulshit.

It also sux that EA are pricing the standalone game at $100 bucks when GHWT will be $88.

I'm a bit of a noob with these games though soooooooo question time.

1/ Rock Band 1 set list link?

2/ Rock Band DLC list? - wiki?

3/ Aussie pricing for DLC/DLC packs?

4/ GHWT DLC release strategy ie weekly like RB?

5/ Cost of GHWT DLC?

6/ Are they essentially the same game? Are the coloured buttons/drums the same and are they in the same positions to minimise confusion?

Thanks

After reviewing this weeks tracks, I will not be getting Bad Religion, sounds boring as hell.

Skipping Sleater Kinny too... :(

(you're skipping the good ones)

Sorry I mean 6 was yes btw.

So far the only DLC for World Tour is the entire Death Magnetic album (can't buy seperate) for i think $27AUD?
