Both you guys shut the hell up already. I think Sorrow is a good song, and since I'm #3 in this topic what I say goes.

Then I ask Dave what he thinks. Number 1 is better!

Dave isn't going to be back until January, didn't you hear? ;)

Speaking of Dave... (shamelessly stolen from sa):

Just saw this text ad in my gmail today:

Rock Band & NIN - nin.amazon.com/still - New NIN Rock Band pack coming soon. Get NIN's new CD "Still" now!

Guess we might be getting yet another NIN pack!
How about more Cruefest too, hmx?! >:(

edit: hello bbg!!

I'll be buying GHWT. Superior hardware is the deal breaker. I'm not buying leftovers. That and the whole delay bulshit.

Hard to fault you there, that's probably a good idea. FYI, the GHWT instruments will work with Rock Band (both 1 and 2), so if you still wanted just the Rock Band software you're good to go.

The more I play Rock Band 2, the more I wonder what they can REALLY do to make me buy Rock Band 3. The only thing I can think of is a music creator like Guitar Hero: World Tour, but I'm not sure if that is enough for me. I'd likely never make a song myself but download songs other people make.

I'm starting to think Rock Band 2 might have all I'll ever really want from a plastic instrument music game. I had issues with Rock Band, but Rock Band 2 fixed them for the most part and added more features. Playing World Tour online is fun but it doesn't add to the experience that much. The only problem I can see is Rock Band 3 having songs I'd like that wouldn't be DLC.

edit: ^^^ really? hmm... further research indicates "Still" releasing in December of last year...

Moving Pictures + singles from Bad Religion, Hot Hot Heat, Sleater-Kinney, Stone Roses, Kasabian, and The Cult.

Well yeah, the song list would be the reason to buy RB3, the same went for RB2. All the ancillary improvements were welcome, but I bought it mainly for the songs it offered.

Offer a DLC album but have its most popular song be on the Rock Band 3 disc.

nah... bwt was and still is a good start, but there is SO much more you can do with it. rhythm games have stuck too long with "progress through tiers, unlock songs, progress through more tiers, etc" I really think they've touched on where the series might be going with Battle of the Bands.. aka making you feel like your band is a part of a bigger world/community. I am thinking RB3 will go even further in that direction. Eventually (because it really is an eventuality) I expect video to take center stage. Upload pseye/360vision videos of your band, or using a linked account upload real videos of your band. More contests really hammered out for difficulties. I mean they can do all sorts of tracking already (average stars, average difficulty played, etc) where they can implement a real ladder system. There are plenty of GH events out there already handicapped where they could do something similar.

I'm not saying any of this stuff is coming, but bringing world tour online really could only be the beginning. BWT was awesome in that it broke down the previously typical rhythm game structure, but there is still a TON they can do.

The next step is story driven RB/GH games. full voice acting and band drama included. BELIEVE!!

I'm hoping that with Rock Band 3 Harmonix puts the entire soundtrack up as DLC for those with Rock Band and Rock Band 2; I'm sure it'll never happen. Rock Band 2 feels sort of like a patch for the first game, but there are enough improvements I'm happy with the purchase. I just don't know where they can go from here.

All that just sounds like more tweaks to me. I'm not sure I'm willing to pay $60 for a new soundtrack and tweaks.

My only hope is that all my stuff transfers to the new systems in 2 or 3 years.

I have a feeling I will have something like 200+ tracks by then.

What if the "new soundtrack" came with 100 songs for $60 (100 songs as DLC would be $200), with many of those songs being really good?

What makes me wonder about the future of Rock Band, however, is how it's going to be handled after RB3. Are they really going to keep on calling it RB4, RB5, RB6, etc? Are they going to add retarded subtitles and clear the path for expansions and spin-offs (like with GH Aerosmith and GH On Tour)? Etc.

I know, which is why I was being tongue and cheek about it. :p

Oh god no. The only "story" for any music game should be the transition from garage band to rock stardom. GH3 (and I think GHWT if the 1up preview is correct) shows that going any further with a storyline in a music game is STUPID.

I would assume your gamertag/PSN ID would carry over to the Xbox 720 and PS4, which should make keeping your DLC feasible.

Wait, who told you about Guitar Hero Underground?

They haven't dated it yet, all we know is that it will be out this year.

Well, at least that's good news. The previous albums released haven't really been interesting to me (my musical taste) but TC&TS is one of my favorite albums of all time. I want to fakeplay New Way Home, dammit!

I'll say it again because it must always be said when talking about Colour and the Shape.

My.

Hero.

Of course. By All Means. Concurred.

Monkey Wrench even.

I want to see what See You will look like.

I really wish we got the deluxe edition. In the Park would be so much fun, and Drive Me Wild too.

is anyone getting random game freeze's when playing? or do I have a crap copy?

I get that too. VERY annoying. I'm glad I'm not the only one. I look down at the circle on my XBox everytime it happens expecting the red ring. :(

It's really bad in practice mode for me.

does anyone in here like Visions? Im just curious? I have a very high tolerance for shit that is deemed as crap to some people......but what is that song? I feel like im just hitting notes and there is no music coming out. Not to mention the drum & guitar chart are hard as hell.

So I went and saw Rancid last night and again, there are soon to be almost 500 songs in Rock Band, yet there is not a single Rancid song and they are arguably the most important punk band of the 90s. What gives?

With so many songs, it's laughable how underused some genre are. Even with the punk songs that are there, it's such a small amount, it's almost as if Harmonix has a grudge against punk rock music.

The thing is that punk songs are some of the most fun songs to play. Great guitar & solos? Check. Fast and crazy basslines? Check? Fast and fun drumming? Check. Fun vocals? Check. If you look at Drummania/Guitarfreaks, there's a good amount of j-punk rock because they understand that punk = fun to play. Harmonix still doesn't seem to get that.

Almost none of the 90/00s punk/ska-punk are present. At least Guitar Hero had a few, but RB really has none.

I can only hope they are holding off on 3-packs because they're going to start doing full album releases to the bigger albums of the 90s. A full album release of Out Come the Wolves would make up for a lot of grievances.

A Rancid song was among the 20 rumoured for free songs (knock me down or something). I dunno, the game has punk. You got the Ramones, the Clash, Buzzcocks, Mighty Bosstones, that Muffs song, Bikini Kill. I guess it's a bit missrepresented in the larger view compared to say classic rock or grunge but that stuff is just more popular. That's not to say there's a TOOON of stuff they could have. Here's some punk I'd like to see, I'm gonna include post-punk and kinda offshoot genres:

Fugazi
Bad Brains
X
Joy Division
X-Ray Specs
Wire
Gang of Four
Husker Du
Raincoats
Sex Pistols
Richard Hell
Pere Ubu
Minutemen
The Fall
Mission of Burma

If you think there is a lack of Punk music in RB especially after RB2...you need to get your head checked. And no, punk is not the most fun genre to play unless you like rocking back and forth on the strum bar, or banging on the same two drums every beat. The Greatful Dead-esque stuff is the most fun to play...basically anything that is not a chugfest.
