woot... almost 4-starred red barchetta on expert vocals without looking at the vocal track at all :P

I'm not a good singer, I just REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY know the song.

will play more after I get home from work.

to be fair, it's really hard to compare the two charts being one is, you know.. a cover and all.. I mean GH2 YYZ for as good as it was WAS noticeably different in many parts (for huge Rush fans at least).

I'll have to play it later and see how I feel about the charts.. but if the chart is accurate to the song (easier or not) I'm still going to have to call it the better version due to it just being the master.

Every single version of a song Harmonix did for GH:2 was more complicated than their RB version. It's not a coincidence. Rock Band is a dumbed down game.

With an unbeatable final song, for fun!

And Jesus, I'm so sick of the same old g/r > g/y for chord switches, rather than just having it be g/r > r/y or something. Holding down green and just switching which higher fret I hold down isn't as fun as moving your hand.

In positive news; Bandages is so awesome.

Where am expert drum video? >:(

Really not sure about other songs, but in the case of YYZ, the Rock Band chart is FAR more accurate to the song. In some cases this is due to GH2 having a cover version (the HO trills at about 1:20 are completely wrong, and much more difficult in Rock Band) but there was more than the cover to blame. In GH2, there were note changes charted where they shouldn't be (the strum pattern at about 1:30 into the song is a great example of this) or there were strums charted when there shouldn't be (the sound of the fingers stopping the strings by lifting off the fretboard shouldn't be charted). All in all, the Rock Band YYZ is the superior version, not to mention the more challenging.

But, again, this is only YYZ I'm talking about, I don't know about the other cross-over tracks.

I really don't care which is "accurate". I care which is more fun.

Green Grass is overrated as hell. It's got nothing on Free Bird (7 minutes of nothing followed by death!), Six, Jordan or fucking LOU!

I still can't do it.

Well, after playing this YYZ, I'll go with Rock Band's.
I'd think you'd lean towards the track that is more challenging, in which case you'll prefer the Rock Band version as well.

As an example...for a particular tapped trill, RB charts it as:
R-Y-R-Y-B-O-B-O-B
while GH2 charts it as a slower:
O-B-Y-B-O-B-O

Can you do the others?

Either way, Green Grass is definitely a toughie but the only thing I can say is hold the star power till absolutely necessary and hope you catch all the star power notes to keep it going for as long as you can :lol

I don't find the RB version to be all that more challenging, except for the fact I'm used to playing it another way. Once I get used to it I should be able to improve my (currently shitty) score.

No :( Any repetition fucks me up. I always get the first 6 or 7 note patterns and then begin to fail at it. I tried to play it again tonight and just like usual, ~98% up to the repeating pattern, then failure in 10 seconds. I think that'll probably be the last time I ever try it.

Maybe I'm just lucky, I've played it a few times as a band so I don't worry too much and have people to bail me out.

Solo I've only tried it the one time

It's the only thing stopping me from having the expert achievement and all the others on Rb1. Unfortunately you can't do those songs with a band. Or can you?

but you DO find it to be more challenging (given the "all that more" qualifier) thus NEGATING your comment that all GH2 charts were harder.

so yeah. :P

Personally I didn't think it was that hard and I'm not really that good at this game. I'm a decent expert player and that's about it. I beat it on my second try :/

The way I see it, a hard chart should result in 3 or 4 stars, not failure. Failure = only the stupid final song on expert that gets me every time

Me either. GGAHT on expert was the first song I actually failed in Rock Band at too, everything else I beat 1st time, 5 starring pretty much everything too. By comparison I beat Freebird on my 3rd attempt and Im a much better player now than I was then.

I would say I agree with this. At this point with as much expert as most of us have under our belts, the only expert=failure songs that should exist are like the impossible tier DLC out there to make Dave and others happy. But if a song isn't that balls to the walls nuts on guitar (or whatever other instrument) then for most of us a lot of songs will seem "easy" just because we've had... well.... for me almost three years of these plastic guitar games.

at some point it is/was an eventuality for these games to stop being about the challenge of beating the songs (except for the top tier or so) and more about the online score aspect of it, especially with friends lists.

I don't think Dave or most of the people in this topic are fans of the fucking retardedly difficult songs. In fact playing with Dave last week he (stupidly) chose a Dream Theater song that we both bought for god knows why and a minute into the song I got a message "fuck this" after he gave up on the song

I think it's already reached the point of online score aspect, and has for a while now. At least for most of us. At least on guitar.

shut up. this isn't supposed to be fun. if you want fun, go get your fischer price my first guitar and stop wasting our time on this. fun is for girls who can't stand the heat

I LOVE playing Eye of the Tiger

so yeah. :P

Like I said, it's just cos it's new. Technically, I think it's easier. It feels more compressed and requires less hand movement, and stuff like the intro and chordy section after the first "verse" are much easier.

And like Johnkers said, I'm not somebody that enjoys playing really hard songs. I think it's important to have them in the game to keep it challenging, but when it comes to DLC my ideal stuff is songs like The Who megapack, or Rush. Not Dream Theater and All That Remains. What bugs me is simplification of charts, not songs being easy. Ideally I want to get gold on everything first time ;)

Fun is for multiplayer. Single player means justifying your existence through plastic instruments.

The other way would be posting as much as you can in this topic

So where's this week's songs? Got the promo at the bottom of the menu screen but nothing shows up under new releases except last week's stuff :/

I think the guitar chart is fantastically awesome. It's the kind of song I love playing.

Go in the dashboard's marketplace.

That would explain why I didn't feel a purpose in my life. I must rectify this.

Sweet. If the drums hold up well this sounds like a fantastic song for the game. More Hot Hot Heat please Harmonix.

Holy shit, there's such a radical difference between Shoot The Runner on GH:3 and RB. Probably the biggest of any song EVA. The charting and mix is completely different.

I'd love more Hot Hot Heat. I haven't listened to much since Makeup, are their other albums as good? I have them all downloaded but if I ever feel like listening to them I can't resist Naked In The City Again or This Town, so I just listen to that album.

I haven't heard their latest album, but Elevator was really good. Lot of stand-out songs.

I will admit that the cult looks boring on guitar. I'm guessing drums and vocals are much more fun on this song. Stone Roses looks like a lot of fun. Red Barchetta looks like just a flat out fun as song to play. I am dying here to get home. Looks amazingly fun and judging from the chart and lyrics may be my favorite song in the game. the rest of moving pictures looks fun as well (and limelight seems quite a bit improved over the cover's chart)

War Pigs in RB is harder, but as for all the other songs, I agree.
