Watch "And All That Could Have Been" it's not very well shot owing to the concept they went with for it (give people in the audience cameras and edit that in with everything else... the effect is often that you have fairly bad seats at the show rather than most concert films where you see things much better than you ever could actually having been there), but it captures how great the Fragility tour was. Still, "March of the Pigs" is absolutely amazing live when the warm lights come up during the quiet part of the chorus... no video of it can replicate it.

I'm a fan, not a diehard, but a solid fan and it was just... not very good. That was a bad year for albums for me though. Ben Folds' "Songs For Silverman had a few decent songs, but overall it felt like he was moving as heavily as possible into adult contemporary. A real shame since I'd felt that Ben Folds Five's albums kept getting worse since the first one culminating in Rheinhold Messner which had a few good songs, but was overproduced and not generally very good (though everything on it sounded great when I saw them live... it had more energy and lost the lethargy and production errors that marred the album). Rockin' The Suburbs, however, was great. An amazing return to form, but then he lost it again.

yea ill definitly have to check "And All That Could Have Been" but you can't beat NIN in TrueHD audio. man that NIN concert was amazing on Blu-Ray. I had 2 friends over who dont listen to rock at all and they were feeling that shit.

I can't wait for the AC/DC concert on BD.

John Mayer concert was also awesome on Blu-Ray. his trio stuff would be perfect in RB. too bad he loathes us.

I can accept it with the apology, but man... Sleater-Kinney are great. I've been wanting them in the game for a while now, mainly since Bikini Kill got announced as being in, but it's a shame they didn't pick a better song.

Well, technically it's still an album even if it's on CD. The concept of "album" has nothing to do with the medium it's released on. As for it's status as both "classic" and "fucking" anyone who disputes this shall face swift vengeance.

All That Could Have Been kicks the ass of any liveshow out there. Beside You In Time was also awesome in it's own right, but I liked The Downward Spiral-songs better than With Teeth and Year Zero. But I still listen to tracks from both latter albums occasionally, they're not "bad", they're just not what you would expect from NIN. I would love to see more NIN-DLC btw, The Great Destroyer, Starfuckers Inc, The Wretched, The Good Soldier, Meet Your Master, The Perfect Drug, Closer, My Violent Heart all appear to be fun songs to play. Owh and please let the Bowie/Reznor-song "I'm Afraid of Americans" appear as DLC!

I can, but that's because my receiver doesn't support HDMI. It does DVI, but when it was released a few years back (actually, right around the time With Teeth was released) HDMI specs hadn't yet settled down so they decided not to try hitting a moving target and just go with DVI since it's functionally identical for the video transmission portion. Damn Sony for not putting 7.1 outputs on the PS3.

Incidentally allow me to strongly, strongly recommend Outlaw Audio if you're ever looking for audio gear. They release a very small product line putting their all into each product rather than stripping things down to sell at various price points, they're a small company that sells exclusively online and manages to keep their costs down significantly as a result, and they have absolutely amazing customer service. When I posted on their message boards about a video error I was getting and a few other people joined in they tracked down the problem to the chip, talked to TI about fixing it, and released a downloadable patch within a week of reporting it. The week before Christmas. Another time when I called in about an issue the customer service guy (I think they only have one or two) knew immediately what I was talking about and who I was because he was familiar with what I'd posted on the message board. Or the time when I was PMed and told that a new remote was already being shipped to me because I reported some problems with mine on their board.

Top-fucking-notch company. And they produce equipment that's competitive with gear that costs twice as much with just about every feature you'd realistically want. The fact that they produce accurate specs is just, well... close to amazing as well. None of this "one channel driven" crap. Though the 8 channel 300W all channels driven amp is a bit much. I draw that line at electronics that require more than one power cable.

I like NIN, but it's just not right for Rock Band. We've also been given a metric arseload of NIN tracks. We don't need any more.

Oh and "The Perfect Drug" is already out as DLC... so uhm... yeah.

Wow... Dexter was so thoroughly mediocre. Not to mention the terrible characterization and acting from all the other cop characters. It felt like CBS wanted a vaguely more "edgy" CSI. "Oh noes! The serial killer (face it, he's really just a vigilante who kills... not really serial otherwise) is the protagonist! My middle-American mind can't possibly handle this because I have to believe that a serial killer is a bad person!". If you don't care that he kills people (like me) and you don't find it even remotely gory (gore? There's maybe a little bit of blood and it always cuts away when he kills someone... pussies) then it's just the same old tired formula with a ludicrous backstory and godawful writing. The credits sequence is fabulous though. It's definitely one of my all-time favorites and never fails to make me hungry.

This is just a rectangle. Doesn't it look cool in black?

I'm not that into concert videos most of the time. I'd rather have a good HD audio recording instead. Sadly, not enough people out there are buying SACD players. C'mon people... we need HD audio! Isn't going into the store and looking for the DVDA section (ok, ok DVD-A) awesome? Hell, just plain old regular DTS 96/24 sounds great on a good system.

Speaking of which if you're into Frank Zappa I strongly recommend QuAudioPhiliac. Dweezil took some of his dad's experiments in recording for quad, remastered them with a bit of tweaking for 5.1 and released them on DVD-A. Because of this it'll play through any standard DVD player, but without the higher sound quality you'd get from a proper DVD-A player. Of anyone to work with new, interesting technologies like this Zappa is definitely one of my top choices to be able to take proper advantage of it.

Going further off-topic a why did a friend of mine have to ask me to check in on his cats while he's in Zurich for two weeks? I'm amazingly allergic to cats and he knows it. I wouldn't have agreed if he knew anyone else who could do it. Grrrrr... hateful things.

I only tend to listen to music with headphones, either while I'm sitting at my PC, or using my iPod on the go, high def audio doesn't really interest me until it can break away from players or 5.1 audio ear buds become common and cheap.

You're not really the market for it then. No offense, but I find it increasingly odd and disturbing how this is the only way many people listen to music. HD audio is aimed more at the audiophile market where we'll sit down in the sweet spot of a painstakingly calibrated (and sometimes even treated dedicated listening room) system and just listen.

5.1 headphones will never, ever be possible. I don't care if you can fake it. Fake doesn't count.

Indeed it can, but only in certain models (60 Gig Holy Grail and I think maybe one other one with BC) and even then it's far less than ideal and a bit convoluted in the way it works. Check out http://www.ps3sacd.com for the best information on the subject.

Try it in GH1 with the original completely impossible and unforgiving HO/POs and you will weep tears of blood and shame.

It's in a weird place where it's not ludicrously hard like GH3 songs would become, but it's possible to complete and just do very, very badly because the solos are very hard and have almost completely broken controls.

As I said, no offense was intended. I know plenty of people who prefer to listen through headphones for many different reasons and I think it's a perfectly valid choice. I can't count the number of times I've listened to something over scratchy, static-filled wireless headphones to avoid waking my girlfriend.

It was more that your statement ignited my recollection of how the way an increasing majority of people are listening to music is changing. This is one of the reasons why I think downloadable audio (whether legal or illegal) and computer-based listening has become more prevalent than higher definition audio. People seem to think that convenience is often more important than sound quality these days.
 
I think it's more that it's easy to reach a point where sound quality becomes negligible to most people. Any CD I own I've ripped to my PC at either a high bitrate or a lossless format, but anything I get through my Zune subscription comes at 192kb/s WMAs. Based on the fact I have a pretty cheap pair of headphones (Sennheiser PX 100) and I don't have a great home audio setup, there's really no need for me to crave all my music be delivered in a lossless format. Once you reach 192kb/s I really can't tell the difference on my setups between CD and compressed.

Also; High Def Audio. I'm good with my shitty iPod. To be honest most of my music consumption occurs through Rock Band these days. After moving from London my exposure to good new or old music has come via this thread and Rock Band.


Also; I had money so I bought Moving Pictures. Fuck you Neil Peart.

Not played on Guitar or Bass but I love the drums and the vocals are sooooo much fun. Makes me crave a wireless mic so hard.
 
Do you think it's ok if i buy Rock Band now and wait for GH WT to buy the drums. I still can play with my GH III guitar.
I would like to wait for the best material (and I've read that the GH WT drums were better).

Any advice ? Thanks
 
It'd be nice to be able to play it on drums. I filled out the online form and EA didn't send me the email they said they would with confirmation details. So I'm waiting for a bass pedal to show up that may not even be sent.
 
So with YYZ setting a precident for cutting out vocalists, let's lose the bass player and get some White Stripes in, eh?

Compared to my crappy metal kick pedal, anything would be better. Even the original stock RB1 pedal has better rebound, which is really saying something. Not to mention the hinge constantly falls out randomly after 2 or 3 songs, causing me to have to push in the hinge after every song played.

Don´t wait, I made the same mistake. Just go to EA.com -> Support -> log in -> Question to EA (or something like this, just have the German version here) and tell them your pedal broke and you don´t get the email from the RB support site.

I did the same thing and they sent me the pedal in like 3 days. I´ve waited two weeks for the stupid email first though...

They're (from what I hear) better, but they are having problems just like the first run of RB1 drums. I would suggest waiting it out for a few months before attempting to get them.

this is exactly how I feel, I have yet to actually get back into NIN except for pre-with teeth era because of how much of a turn off a-with-a teeth-a was. outside of giving the new stuff once overs (in which they didn't sound as bad as with teeth, but nothing nearly as good as they used to be either)

I just can't change my opinion on that, but I guess I'll throw you a bone and say I did enjoy 2-3 tracks on with teeth.

there's so many bands that are turning to ass.
 
I think the greater issue isn't that With Teeth was completely unlistenable it's just that it wasn't very good compared to all of the previous albums. It was so significantly worse than them that it felt like a slap in the face. "That's all... this mediocre album?" I guess if you got into NIN with it (and I have no idea how you missed out on all of the previous, better, better known work) then maybe you might be more inclined to be favorable, but I still can't understand why it would actually make you interested in Trent's music.
 
Would be nice to have some stuff by ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, was listening to Perfect Teenhood and Totally Natural earlier and thinking how great they'd be to play, would need to be heavily censored though.

I have long thought that "Eternia" would be a great name for a power metal band. When I first mentioned this to a friend he immediately pointed out the He-Man connection. This makes it better. The entire band is He-Man themed and costumed. He-Man (vocals), Skeletor (bass), Orko (drums... tell me Orko isn't an ideal drummer), with guitar being undecided.

This would be the most awesome band ever people.
