:D

I love Nirvana, I'm buying this pack. Should be fun. Brace yourselves for some repetive charts, btw :lol

Shame about SLTS, tho (it was featured in older guitar hero game, wasn't it?)

Dave also shrugged off The Cult... I mean we are talking Costanza levels of taste being shown here.... though this is the thread that shows raging hard ons for Foo Fighters and Paramore... have to remember exactly where I am.

Y'know what would've been a less divisive release? R.E.M.

I guess Harmonix likes starting fights?

"Smells Like Teen Spirit" is more culturally significant than it is actually good.

And Rock Band already has the Boston pack for download anyway for all your Teen Spirit riffing needs.

You think so? I think it'll just plug up with the pre-Green and post-Green people. Green was DEFINITELY a dividing point.

Not from all of us...

(I don't mind some Paramore, but don't have a raging hard-on for more)

Firrt off, Costanza is a saint. Second, I shrugged off the guitar chart The Cult would provide, not their track. Third, you're arguing an opinion is correct, which means you lose.

No, sometimes opinions are correct like, oh... I don't know.... THIS TIME! :D

p.s. I love constanza, he gave me my LBP beta key. But alas him and I both know our musical tastes are like wine and gasoline.

So do a Greatest Hits set, half pre-Green, half post-Green. Problem solved!

Yeah, possibly only the second most iconic punk song in the history of the genre is awful in every way... rebel against the mainstream as much as you want, but Smells Like Teen Spirit is arguably only like 1 of 3 or 4 punk songs that are perfect in every way.

lol wut

No Teen Spirit, Come As You Are, and Lithium sucks. What the hell happened with those?

Still stoked to have Breed, though.

"Smells Like Teen Spirit" would be terrible to play, well, at least on guitar. I guess you'd have fun on vocals, but people would whine as much as they did about the Pixies. Considering the strong Pixies influence that lead to the creation of Nirvana it's pretty obvious.

"Come As You Are" and "Lithium", however, are big enough that it feels like they want to make more money with that at some future point. Perhaps Teen Spirit as well.

Another week, another stupid fight about personal preferences.

Whichever game gets Teen Spirit first has lost. It would be the ultimate "fuck fun, lets pick the hit" choice.

I just hope Guitar Hero: World Tour and Rock Band 2 both get the song, so you will be stuck with Rock Revolution and we won't have to read your whining every day in this very thread.

"Breed" (Christ ... finally), "Lounge Act" and "Territorial Pissings" for me. I really can't stand Nirvana anymore, but these songs I still enjoy. Here in the bay, they've never left radio. Hell, Live 105 practically ensures you'll hear at least one Nirvana song an hour ... and it's probably going to be "Smells like Teen Spirit."

Really? I don't hear them on Live that often. I do, however, hear Social D at least daily. Not that I'm complaining, but it's always the same three or four songs. Can't we at least get "Mommy's Little Monster"?

Live has... serious issues. Local radio here is just astoundingly bad for the most part from what I've been able to find.

Then again, I got free tickets to see Ted Leo from Soundcheck one night while driving to the airport so I can't totally hate Live.

I think some people forget that there are multiple tiers in rock band. Most tier 1 songs are boring to play but they serve there purpose. I really don't get the whole "this song would be boring"

Unless the song is like Silver then I really don't get it. god forbid any mainstream music gets into a mainstream videogame. :P

It would be the worst song in the game to play. You realize that people learn that song first on real guitar for a reason right? There is one riff!

yes, it's one of the few songs I learned in my brief guitar stint in the early 90s (go figure :P). the beef isn't with those saying it would be a boring song to play in game.. just with those claiming it as a bad (ne: awful) song.

...but it's not in the game (yet) and the rest is opinion so who cares, man? I'd say the song is horrible, awful, whatever. It's not my taste. By the same token, shit I love will most definitely be horrible to many others. Not sure why you're taking it personally... You and the albinos like something that others don't. That's why the game is great. So many tracks/downloads there's something for (almost) all!

You're about 15 years late on that one.

I know. It's an album I own and love and I just noticed it today. This is... deeply shaming.

Just the other day I started learning "Come As You Are".

Something I've often found interesting though is that out of 200 songs in

about 40 or so have made it into the various GH/RB games. Sure they're all popular songs and many of them were big hits for the artist that recorded them, but I still sometimes think it's a bit interesting.

Can't comment on the guitar version, but they've released three damn volumes for guitar (plus acoustic and blues volumes). Generally a good deal though. Hal Leonard already tries to repackage this stuff into various other collections all the time, but it's generally a good deal and more reliable than just hunting tabs on the Internet... usually. Half the time you'll just end up with tabs ripped out of this or another book though many times outright admitting it.

I've gone through 6 sodas so far today. very high strung.

Punk song?

Nirvana sucks, and they always have.

Please don't call it punk though.
umm... it is pretty well established that the origins of "grunge" (especially Nirvana, Screaming Trees, AIC, etc) were as much from punk as they were from alternative. About the only reason it was originally classified as Alternative is that punk had pretty much died by 1980 (or transformed into Alternative and New Wave depending on how you want to look at it). Heck, look at any biography and you'll see regular influences of The Clash, Black Flag, Misfits, Sex Pistols, etc. Grunge was born out of punk with alternative (also born out of punk) influence.

I was cracking up at that. Nirvana is the epitome of grunge. They are the band that defined the genre for most people.

There are a hell of a lot more than 3 or 4 perfect punk songs, but I guarantee you that not a single one came from Nirvana. SLTS is signifigant in that it was MTV/Radio's first huge grunge-love, so it got drilled into the heads of anyone musically aware during that time. Other than that, it's a nondescript, bland outing.

Had they included SLTS in the pack, it'd just be another prime example of the "ALL RIGHT! IT'S IN ROCK BAND!!! -----> WTF!! THIS SONG SUCKS TO PLAY!!!" that has come up repeatedly over the past year.

The only way I can understand anybody liking Teen Spirit is nostalgia. Like those people that like Zelda 2.

Belgand is a huge fan of Zelda 2 and Nevermind. You are entering a world of hurting.

THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU FIND A STRANGER IN THE ALPS!

Exactly, it was influenced by punk, but it was then no longer punk. Like, for example, looking at the many British Invasion bands that were strongly influenced by R&B. Even taking into account the Who's well-known "Maximum R&B" concept they were rock now. Even when they played covers they had evolved into a new genre.

Just because you have influences from a genre doesn't mean that you're still working within that genre.

For the record I still like SLTS. I'll acknowledge that nostalgia likely has a lot to do with it, but well... I just plain like the song. It's not Nirvana's best song, but I enjoy listening to it.

You're just proving my point! Unless your first exposure to them was in this century.

I may indeed be proving your point, but they're still both very good when taken on their own merits. This isn't the case of loving He-Man, but then going back and actually watching some of it and thinking "Fuck, I was a complete idiot as a child.".

Street Fighter II, while possessing a ton of nostalgic value, is also a really good fighting game. Compared to the intensely technical combo-fests that have become common today (and for which I blame Killer Instinct) SF2 is actually a lot of fun and fairly easy to pick up without having to memorize a few pages of counters, blocks, combos and all sorts of levels of priority and such.

I mean, I'm not saying we should all go out and watch Reality Bites while we drink Crystal Pepsi before posting reviews on a local BBS with a 2400 bps modem on my old 386 monochrome Compaq laptop.
