Ready for Launch
Able On October 16, ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X will be available in the United States and across key international markets, spanning Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Availability will expand to additional regions where the ROG Ally series is already sold today. Pricing and pre-order details will follow in the coming weeks.
ROG and Xbox co-developed the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X to give gamers the freedom to play their way, anytime and anywhere. The ROG Xbox Ally is powered by an AMD Ryzen Z2 A processor featuring four Zen 2 cores with eight threads and eight RDNA 2 GPU cores. This offers ultra-efficient performance, paired with 16GB of LPDDR5X‑6400 RAM and a 512GB M.2 SSD, and all backed by a 60Wh battery for extended play.
The premium, high-performance ROG Xbox Ally X ups the ante with an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme, a new 8‑core/16‑thread Zen 5 APU with 16 RDNA 3.5 GPU cores and an integrated 50 TOPS NPU. The ROG Xbox Ally X also features 24GB of LPDDR5X‑8000 memory, a 1TB M.2 SSD, and boasts a larger 80Wh battery for longer playtime.

Optimized for Handheld
The team at Xbox has been hard at work behind the scenes partnering with game studios to test and optimize thousands of PC titles for handheld compatibility. This new Handheld Compatibility Program ensures day-one users have the best experience possible on their ROG Xbox Ally handhelds. At launch, compatible games in the game library will sport Handheld Optimized or Mostly Compatible badges.
Handheld Optimized means that the game is ready to go—with default controller inputs, an intuitive text input method, accurate iconography, clear text legibility, and appropriate resolution in full-screen mode. Mostly Compatible means that the game may require minor in-game setting changes for an optimal experience on handheld.
The Xbox team is also bringing advanced shader delivery to the ROG Xbox Ally. This allows the Xbox app to preload a game's shaders during download, so supported games will launch up to 10x faster, run more smoothly, and use less battery on first play. Xbox is working on adding this feature to even more games over time.
The ROG Xbox Ally X also features AMD's cutting-edge Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor with a built-in NPU, that unlocks upcoming AI powered features starting early next year—with more to come. These features include:
  • Automatic Super Resolution (Auto SR) – a system-level feature that uses the power of the NPU to upscale games running at lower resolutions. This delivers high-resolution visuals and smooth framerates across a wide range of games, with no additional changes required from game developers.
  • Highlight Reels – AI captures standout gameplay moments—like epic boss battles or victories—and generates short replay clips to share with friends or on social channels.
See the New ROG Ally Lineup in Action
The ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X will make their fully playable debut at Gamescom 2025, joined by ROG's complete 2025 laptop lineup powered by the latest NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs. Visitors can test-drive the handhelds with a curated game selection including Gears of War: Reloaded, Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade, DOOM: The Dark Ages, Hogwarts Legacy, Lies of P, Balatro, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and Roblox experiences such as 99 Nights in the Forest, Grow a Garden, and Rivals.
Meet and Greet Two Amazing Actors
To celebrate the upcoming launch of the ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X, ROG is reuniting Grand Theft Auto V actors Ned Luke and Shawn Fonteno for the latest installment of its ROG Travel campaign. Ned reprises his role as ROG Travel's witty supervisor, while Shawn joins the cast as a new recruit bringing fresh ideas to the table. Both stars will appear live at the ROG booth, giving fans the chance to meet one of gaming's most iconic duos in person.

I wonder if they're going to do something like when they tried to subsidize the console with you subscribing the game pass? That is probably the only way I would even consider upgrading from my rog Ally. Because I'm also really patient enough to wait for a real big leap from somebody like Valve.

It's not enough just to be 25-35% better. Has to be a double or triple performance boost. On top of all the fixings like better battery.

What would guys go with this or high spec laptop desktop not an option.

They're two completely different things. This is more for hand-held focused game play, something you can take anywhere.

A laptop, while mobile, is nothing like a handheld gaming device, in terms of portability.

Laptop at same price would be much more performant.

If you just want something transportable, that would be much better.

Cheers think just gonna save rtx 5070 laptop and maybe get one these when I'm free to travel and that.

Lost rtx 4070 super pc and lg cx and everything else I owned with it due to being hospital, rehabilitation to long sucks.

Honestly these prices are lower than everyone was expecting

MS hasn't announced the prices. They are announcing them later.

"Stay tuned for more details about pricing and pre-orders in the coming weeks."

"This is always a challenge," Jason Ronald, Microsoft's vice president of Xbox gaming devices & ecosystem, told me, replying to a question from IGN in a roundtable interview, "and you always try to find the right balance between affordability and price point, and I think especially in a mobile form factor that also adds in dimensions such as battery life in as well. And then, as you said, the macro-economic climate is challenging."

"I think we will have to... we need more time to figure the macro-economic impact to pricing, and that's why we'll be sharing more later, in September and October," Asus senior vice president Shawn Yen added, speaking to IGN.

In for the Ally X. I love the colors around the joy sticks. Looks slick and I don't get comfortable playing games on a laptop. I grew up a console gamer and a handheld approach like this is more enjoyable for me than a laptop, especially if I'm laying down and want to game before I sleep.

Anything about the UI? Is that UI in the picture the same as regular Allys?? Looks like the Xbox app UI...

So basically $1000 for the full package, i.e. system and Dock. Does the dock at least boost the system in any way? Or does it still output @1080p image?

In the gamescom stream it was announced that they'll use AFMF so there will be frame gen in every game. Also the Xbox environment doesnt load the desktop and some processes too so more resources for games to use. Other store fronts are loaded into the Xbox environment as well.

If it's like the Steam Deck you set the system resolution and the game resolution separately. Anything higher than 1080p generally has a huge impact on performance, even with indie games.

The dock doesn't boost performance at all.

It's just a charger and HDMI out dock, it's not like the Switch dock.

The Switch dock isn't providing any increase in processing or bandwidth though right? Just a boost in wattage which toggles increased power in the device itself. Other handhelds allow you to control that wattage manually.

I hadn't read up on this thing before since it said "Xbox" on it. Reading up on it now it seems pretty impressive. My Steamdeck has started to feel a bit dated recently. I will wait for reviews and impressions on this one and maybe jump in.

It does "unlock" additional functionality/power/secret sauce, which I don't think is the case with these RoG devices when connected via a dock, right?

Doesn't the Switch dock allow for the image to be output at higher resolutions? Why can't they do the same with these docks?

So explain to us why the steam deck is cheaper than this.
Gabe touched on this years ago. Valve was willing to take the hit.

Speaking to IGN, Newell said the company needed to be "very aggressive" in terms of pricing, citing price performance as "one of the critical factors in the mobile space".

While his immediate priority was on Steam Deck's performance and experience, especially in the hands of PC players, Newell said, "Price point was secondary and painful. But that was pretty clearly a critical aspect to it."

The implication is that Valve would be selling the Steam Deck at a loss. In comparison, the Nintendo Switch has always been sold at a profit, while the Switch OLED's higher price point also ensures it is sold at a profit, despite the costs of upgrades only estimated as costing an extra $10 per unit.

I don't understand why companies don't just copy Nintendo and make a dock that actually enhances the visual output on a 4k display. $100 to play on a 1080p image? Ugh
It doesn't need any dock to increase the power to render things and, again, you can choose "whatever" resolution you want over and under 1080p.
