Great news for Roger fans, I guess. Personally, I was extremely ecstatic for some fresh blood to be injected into the voice cast; I know Max Mittleman was circulating as a potential new VA - which sounded like a palatable proposition - but oh well!

I'm confused why they announced his departure in the first place then if they didn't have someone lined up to replace him.

Okay, what's the story behind this?
Originally, he announced his voluntary departure from the franchise - probably due to some contract expiry, failed negotiations, whatever - and now it seems that he's back. No one can tell you for sure why he left in the first place, or the circumstances surrounding his sudden return.

Huh. Nice.

Hopefully we finally get to see what a decent Roger voiced Sonic is like, now that those shitty writers are gone from SEGA/Sonic Team

Fucking shit...I was expecting the guy from the movie. Sonic once again gonna sound retarded, thats sad.

Kinda lame, I too was looking forward to a new Sonic. But what really matters is new writers, so as long as we get good writers, and a good voice director, then Roger Craig is probably fine.
It can't get worse then the last writers they had on board... right?

it seems shiro maekawa, the guy who wrote Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes, Sonic 06 and the Wii Storybook games is also coming back according to some rumors i heard.

I think the whole situation with voice actors is because of the Netflix series. It's being animated in Canada, so it's going to have a new cast based in Canada. The current voice cast for the games probably felt like they were going to be replaced since their contracts were expiring, and it happened before when the Adventure cast's contracts expired and they got replaced for the 4Kids cast.

Rather than get replaced, I think they left on their own terms, but later things got worked out and they're able to return. the voices of Eggman and Tails confirmed they had to reaudition and that they would only be doing the voices for the games, and not Netflix.

He was a voice actor in Too Human published by Microsoft.

Too Human developers Silicon Knights worked with Hideo Kojima on MGS Twin Snakes

Phil Spencer has a statue of a Hideo Kojima game on his shelf

He has also voice acted for Yakuza

Is this proof MS is buying Sega and the MGS IP to be remade by the Yakuza team?

I don't understand changing voice actors for established characters. The publishers need to stop being cheap, especially for these big franchises, and just retain the talent. Resident Evil, Metal Gear, etc. feel off without Roger Craig Smith or David Hayter.

There's enough video game characters around too, that it's not like it's putting new voice actors out of work.

idk, it's mostly due to many reasons, contracts expiring, voice actors not being available, or willingly moving onto something else, you name it, besides, Roger Craig Smith replaced Jason Griffith, wich replaced Ryan Drummond, SEGA replaced the cast twice already with only Mike Pollock surviving the second recast.

I'm very curious though. Did he jump the gun on leaving? Just unusual. Kinda wish we got a fresh start on Sonics voice.
