Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - Official Teaser Trailer

The person in the tank is likely
Vader
and the tank is probably
an earlier version of whatever life support pod Vader uses in Empire
. The Imperial Guards are there either because
Vader is kind of helpless when in the tank
or because
the hooded guy is The Emperor

This is exactly what I was thinking.

I was excited as the potential of this film more than TFA but now I'm not as hyped.

Cautiously optimistic but it seems like it does several things that I didn't really like TFA for. Basically, it superficially looks like a SW film since it apes all the aesthetics but it feels different. The dialog in SW has never been a stand out but this feels bad in a different way that isn't better. I hope they ease up on the fanservice pandering and the mixing up of elements since it started to wear out it's welcome in TFA,

Forest Whitaker looks like the best part in this film so far.

The YA criticisms seem to hit the nail on the head for why the direction of this franchise rubs me the wrong way a little, and I'm not sure if they want to just just chase after the YA novel crowd with a Star Wars skin or not. It makes me feel like I'm getting too old for this shit while at the same time it's trying to pander for my money like "You remember AT-ATs? Now they are in a tropical setting." Maybe that's enough for people after we seen the same snow Hoth battle rehashed in media and games for the last 30 years, but I don't want to feel like revisit this world is like they are selling Malibu Stacy with a hat.

And Star Wars threads seem to be the worst with blatant spoilers and spoiler based speculation just littered all over the place. I'm out.

This trailer turned me around: I am now hyped for this movie. Great cinematography and art direction. Hopefully the next trailer clues us into the characters a little more.

It may be jarring though, when I eventually watch this film as a prequel to the less-visually-impressive OT films lol

What if that's the emperor kneeling to Snoke? That would be the dumbest of retcons.
I am now braced for this inevitability

I have a feeling this is not going to be a scene in the movie, but placed to raise some questions due to the hood.

Kind of like Kylo's initial shot in the teaser.

If the
Emperor bows to Snoke
I am going to flip tables.

Not saying I want this to be the case but can you elaborate on why everyone else thinks this would be such a terrible thing? I'm genuinely curious

And let's be honest here. That has to be Reys mom. The timing, the entire purpose of this film. All of it.

I had not thought of that before this teaser but it certainly seems to fit. Becoming more and more likely in my head as I ponder it

This makes it look like one of those teenage apocalyptic movies like Divergent, Maze Runner, and Hunger Games.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I think people feel this way because those movies tend to be some of the only action films that places females as leads and it's still strange to see a woman leading a film like this. Looks like any other Marvel or modern blockbuster action film otherwise.

Not sure I'm on board with how angsty and special-snowflake the main character likes to act, but the movie will probably do a better job of developing her so I'll give her the beneifit of the doubt until I see it. As of now though, I feel the same. Instantly took to Rey, this person I'm more feeling "You go ahead and keep drawing skulls in your notebook, I'm gunna go talk to someone who doesnt suck."

Everything else is looking pretty cool. God damn, walkers! I love walkers. I was disoriented as hell in the death star shot. I thought I was looking at a starfield that was shifting, couldnt figure it out until the wide shot. Should brighten up those shadows a little.

I will give her the benefit of the doubt, too. Hopefully she'll be a fully fleshed out character with a very interesting backstory to cement her motivations. But... Gary Whitta is the writer. I don't want to bash Garry since he's got a lot of hate here but unfortunately the history is not good.

They have a lot to live up to. Casting Daisy Ridley as Rey is one of mankind's greatest achievements.

I'd be pissed if they gave away the mystery of who her family is in a side story like Rogue One.

I just rewatched TFA last night and the questions about where she comes from are among the things I'm most excited about seeing Episodes VIII and IX for.

Looks incredible, i love the darker tone, the beach shot was amazing

My first thought as well.
If Ian McKellen is in Star Wars as Grand Moff Tarkin I will freak out. Heavily. Extremely.
I will probably freak out if he simply is in the movie at all.

Sadly its not, but Ben is fire too, just wait and see.

I see your point but I dont consider it a big deal for me. If it's really killing you though, there is a fanedit of ep3 that also took issue with this and edited that shot with them above Coruscant rather than the Death Star. It also has Padme surviving but in poor health, matching dialogue from ep6. It is called Labyrinth of Evil.

Nah, the replies since that post indicate that it's been covered quite a bit in Tarkin and Rebels... In Rebels, the gang visits Geonosis and finds everyone deader than the Lars homestead, and in Tarkin, construction isn't going well because they can't find enough big crystals. (and then one turns up in Rebels).

So, it seems like there's actual canon explanation out there.

He had a master at some point, no?

Or my "joke" response:

That's because his arthritic knees won't let him.

He killed his master, as he stated in episode 3

I wouldmy be surprised if snoke is being kept on life support in that cylinder thing

I don't know if I agree with any of the theories connected to The Force Awakens so far, but it would be a golden opportunity to plant some seeds to make everything feel more organic. I'm not sure that Jones is Rey's mom or that Snoke is in the fucking tank, but it wouldn't blow my mind if there's something.

Those Red Guards are Emperor Guards. I think this is the Emperor! But wait....

that strange capsule he's coming out of. Almost looks like a cloning capsule.

Could we be in for a massive shocker in that the Emperor seen in the original Trilogy is a clone?

What if the main bad guy in the new Trilogy-Snoke-is actually the REAL EMPEROR!

OMG!

Hmm... Kamino cloning facility:

Eh, she's young, rebellious, and fighting an oppressive evil empire. I think if she was older we wouldn't see the comparisons. I'm not sure if the YA-feel would be any different if it was was a young rebellious teenage boy instead.

Well, hype deflated for that particular character. Still 99.9% hyped for this movie. What an awesome year this is for games and movies.

They have the same gravitas, Ben just hasnt exploded the way Mckellen did, it took a franchise for Mckellen to really burst onto the scenes.

Personally I think he will steal the film.
