Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - Official Teaser Trailer

There's probably going to be a massive space battle at the end so we'll get our space combat fix.

It's been FAR too long, IMO The battle of Endor was the last significant one. RotS was great but it was more of a chase scene that takes place in a battle.

I think it needs/doesn't need it as much as any of the rest of them. I just can't see them dropping it, there's no reason to.

The crawl was only ever identical to the official title in the prequels IIRC, so it would actually be normal for them to be different to each other. Obviously we are just speculating, but I don't think they will drop something so essential to the Star Wars experience, spin-off or not.

The reasoning is that it could disrupt the feel and tone of the film and really fail to set it apart early on. Secondly.. we have a booming JW score as an opening then basic blockbuster WOOOOMS for the duration of the 2 hours right after?

I doubt it will have a crawl.

Now that Silly's brought it up, I think I'm gonna be disappointed if it isn't the regular opening, but in blue lettering instead of yellow.

That's the perfect way to stick to the formula, while differentiating from the mainline.

That ain't how I'd describe Alexandre Desplat's output.

What aspect of her sells you from that? I haven't seen her in anything and I have to admit she's the most worrying part of this trailer for me. Nothing about her from this footage scream rebel fighter to me.

I like the movies. She has a small part, but she's good. Most people will probably use Theory of Everything as their barometer instead. I wouldn't worry about it.

Where's my Zatoichi Jedi movie with Donnie Yen?

That's what the real Han Solo movie is

Right but the Episode label only belongs to the actual main episodes. The crawls have that to note which episode number it is. Rogue One being a spinoff and not a main episode may see it having its own opening crawl to reflect its actual title, like some other things have did like Clone Wars. But really, it could go either way.

Do we get the traditional fanfare, some new variation of it, or an entirely new theme for the standalones?

I'm more interested to see how they handle the music. Clearly it's not going to be a JW piece (even if they use some of his main melodies/themes).

Did he score the trailer music? Because it felt pretty much as bland/basic as it gets (which is what I'm going off of). I ask because I know a lot of the trailer music was NOT scored by JW. So hopefully we get something more authentic in the film.

Donnie Yen... oh man i love this guy!

I hope I'll be wrong about this, but I get the feeling this film's going to ruin some of the mysticism that's out there about this new trilogy. It's something the prequel films did by having these "rough interpretations" from the original trilogy turn into a reality that's not all that good, disappointing or infuriating.

Just as a guess
This girl is Rey's mom, turns to the dark side, gives up the fact that she's a rebel and X/Y/Z have the Death Star plans and becomes a Knight of Ren or something for the next film, etc.

Nope. Wont happen.

She would be like a 70 year old Knight of Ren?

I can only speak for myself, but the crawl and the JW score put me right into that universe every time. This is a different kind of film but it still takes place in that Universe. And I really don't think a film with Star Wars in its title is going to be all that affected by a standard Star Wars opening. The tone can be perfectly set in the 5-10 mins after the crawl.

But really, it could go either way.

Yea, that's just it. We really don't know what they will consider to be taboo and what isn't. My money would be on the crawl staying.

At this point, I feel like Star Wars is that main title, that logo, that scroll. That's part of what makes a Star Wars story a Star Wars story.

I don't think it was, much like almost none of the trailers/ads for Force Awakens were Williams music, but instead reinterpretations by a trailer house.

I disagree. I don't see how using the standard opening then going straight into a completely different tone/style from the usual SW films wouldn't be incredibly clunky. I hope I'm wrong.

Somebody would complain if I didn't, plus it never helps to be safe.

Let them complain, they'd be the ones lookin' silly.

Even if he did, it wouldn't be representative of his actual score. Desplat is fantastic. The music is NOT something anyone needs to be worried about.

If that's the case then I'm one happy camper. We need the music to be good, as much as any other aspect of the film.

Changing the color would be a great idea. I love it. If I remember right they were toying with doing this on Empire - blue scroll over the Hoth landscape was pitched at one point, I think.

It's got the Roberts seal of approval, guys. It must be right. I've seen the tshirts. Someone get Gary Whitta back in here.

Last place I heard him was Godzilla.

I can easily imagine something like this during the walker scene. I like him.

Yep. His Godzilla score with Edwards was fantastic.

Awesome time to be a Star Wars fan, what with the brilliant Force Awakens and now this Rogue One trailer, which looks brilliant too.

Disney seems to be treating Star Wars with respect so far. Bring on December.

Won't see Mads until the final film. He IS the plans.

After she finds him he just stares at Felicity intensely and it jumps to credits.

Listening to it more I don't think the "This is a rebellion isn't it?" and the "I rebel" lines are in the same sentence. I get the feeling that the long pause before the "I rebel" line is a response to a question or some other statement. Very much feels like a cut together trailer line, but even then I don't find it that bad like others.

Same feeling I get. I think that the "I rebel" line is an answer regarding her past. So maybe just poor editing

So what theory has more power ... the girl is Rey's mom or "Poe Dameron in a Mustache" (possibly Diego Luna ?) is Poe's father ?

Don't have an opinion regarding Poe's father. However, Felicity's character as Rey's mother is something I am starting to strongly suspect. Looks aside, both having British RP accents indicate they are both from core worlds in the ST universe. Also, if the leaks turn out to be true it could explain Rey's knack for engineering. That being that
Jyn is actually the daughter of the guy, who overcame the technical hurdles that delayed the Death Stars construction

It would also be pretty cool that if Luke is Rey's father, then
Rey's Dad destroyed her Grandfathers legacy

I don't see how this wouldn't work in a Star Wars movie. Try not to kneejerk and listen through it. It's very good. Hell most of it sounds borderline Williams. If you told me Williams did this I would believe you full-stop.

Whoops sorry man. :p

I'll listen to this too. You guys are great, now I've got some good music to pump me up before this movie hits. I'll admit I didn't look into who is scoring, but the trailer music really gut punched me. Happy to know it's most likely not representative of the final film.
