Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - Official Teaser Trailer

I feel like such a lone buzzkill, I'm not really excited for this at all. Did we even see one non-human in this thing? It doesn't feel like star wars without that, or a sense of fun and adventure. Feels like a serious action movie with a coat of star wars paint.

I guess that's what people want though?

EDIT: shouldn't say I'm not excited for this at all, more that this trailer doesn't excite me at all.

The only lightsaber fight I really liked in the OT was ROTJ's because it meant something.

lol I can't disagree, they were fun as hell to watch. I think it's fine for lightsaber duels to be just fun. I don't think every strike needs to tell some story. It's nice when it does, but sometimes people just simply get into fights.

I would also argue that the fights mostly meant something apart from the ones in AOTC. TPM's fight led to Qui-Gon's death which led to him discovering how to become one with the Force which paves the way for the entire rest of the story.

perhaps spinoffs have very different expectations compared to numbered releases?

I think that part of it was TFA being the first Star Wars movie in years AND coming off the heels of some bad prequels left people with some weird expectations. With TFA doing relatively well and people realizing the potential of this new direction, the hype and hopes have been unleashed a bit more.
 
always think the star wars fan base is one of the strangest.... Tend to absolutely love the series and the universe and praise is the greatest thing, yet at the same time tear it apart it every corner.
 
Wasn't this gonna be a Han Solo movie?

Either way, looks pretty cool. Bit too much of an 'regular action movie in the star wars universe' vibe, but we'll see.

The only person in this movie that should yield a lightsaber in this movie is Vader. And it better be fucking terrifying.

I just hate the over choreographed style of the prequel fights, with the Darth Maul fight being the exception because I thought that one did the best blending of the idea that these Jedi's are trained and ready to fight with the old OT style fighting. When AOTC and ROTS start getting into the video gamey over choreographed stuff, that just gets stupid. I keep waiting for Yoda to get his head chopped off because all of those stupid flips he keeps doing leave himself so open to an easy death shot.

Am I the only one who liked the "I rebel" line? There has to be others, come on, speak up. We must defend Jyn's honor.
 
Looks cool enough for me. It's Star Wars, so of course I'll watch it.

There's a Han movie in the works, along with this (the many Bothans died film) and the Boba Fett reclaiming his title as Galactic Badass fanfic.

I've always found the prequel fights to be really boring. No tension, nothing at stake, no weight or heft or impact, and they were all filmed very badly.

At any rate - it will actually be a nice change of pace to not have a saber fight. For being a prequel, I'm mostly interested in how this film will differentiate itself in style and focus.

I mean, for me it just simply makes sense. These are fighters in their prime and heavily connected to the Force. I didn't see the rest of the fights as gamey either, but I guess that's just down to perspective. Perhaps the heavy CG and stuff made it feel like that, but I never had any actual problems with the choreography or energy. Watching Anakin and Kenobi go at it is a treat every time I watch the film.

I also rather love the Anakin and Dooku fights in both AOTC and ROTS. There was definitely more to the former than just flash, especially how Anakin cuts the power, it goes dark and we see the visual implications of light and dark on Anakin's face as the sabers move about.

I disagree about tension; more often than not someone was hurt or killed. Qui-Gon was ran through, Maul sliced in half, Anakin's arm being cut off, Anakin's limbs being severed and then burning alive... so I had no problems with tension, but at the same time I was into the story and characters while it doesn't seem like you really were, so that probably plays a part :p

no duels but maybe some Sith will jus go around cutting the rebels into pieces.

I certainly don't see what's so terrible about it myself.

I think it's possible if it was a bit longer like "well then, I rebel" or something, people wouldn't even care.
 
Due to the constant misreference, the OT needs to be;

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story |OT| No Bothans died during the making of this film.
