Roman numerals in videogame titles are super annoying.

Do you like Roman numerals?

Why the frick does half of all games use Roman numerals in their sequels? It doesn't look any cooler and it just confuses people.

For example, something like GTA VI is nonsense . And none of these games actually has a Roman setting.

So it literally has no reason to use numerals except for that some lunatic in marketing thinks it looks cooler if they use a bunch of x's and v's instead of a normal number that people know how to read.

But it is much cooler. But I do understand that it is confusing. When the new Pope of Catholic church was announced, Pope Leo XIV, allot of Catholics, got confused on how to read his Papal name, that's why many reviewed how to read roman numerals.

Roman numerals: because regular numbers werent pretentious enough
If that were true, we would all be busy playing Expedition XXXIII right now

It definitely does NOT work for my username! LOL. But yeah on titles it looks cool...at least up to like XX then it gets a bit weird..like the super bowl.

I mean what looks more cool?

FINAL FANTASY XVI
FINAL FANTASY 16
...?

no, it confuses idiots, and I for one like that!

SO BRING ON THE ROMAN NUMERALS! I want exclusively roman numerals from now on!
we need to rebrand Cyberpunk 2077 to Cyberpunk MMLXXVII asap!

also, replace all digital clocks on phones, PCs and consoles with analog clocks, so that all the zoomers don't know what's going on

Still remember working at gamestop and there were morons who asked for "grand theft auto eye vee" -_- People that stupid should not be allowed to buy M rated games, because they're clearly not mature.

I always thought it was weird how Mortal Kombat went from 10 to 40 back to 11 and then to 1.
mortal kombat has always been random
2 used ii
3 was 3
4 was 4
5 was v or atleast deadly alience logo had a prominent v
then nuts to numbers for a while, then x for 10, then 11 for 11

megaman actually used Roman vs Arabic numerals in a clever way
nes games were 1 2 3 4 5 6
and gameboy were ii iii iv v

To be fair, they knew their audience.

IIII is a valid roman number, often used on clocks for example. the reason it's still used on clocks is believed to be due to better readability when rotated. and there's also some history behind that 4 being used in ancient rome, IIII can still be found on the Colosseum in fact. entrance 54 is written as LIIII not LIV and entrance 44 is written as XLIIII and of course gate 4 is gate IIII.

I don't mind Roman Numerals. They work for some franchises (Final Fantasy (or almost any fantasy based RPG), GTAV/VI). I wouldn't do it for Call of Duty games though, I wish they would have never done it that way.

yeah, but the Mega Man games then fucked it all up in the main menu. because there they all use Roman numbers.

also don't forget Mortal Kombat X releasing a version called XL 🙃 so Mortal Kombat 40

Well Resident Evil used regular numbers and we were all like hahaha RE6 giraffe oral sex.

Since then they've had to try to do cool things with roman numerals.
