Romney considers 2016 bid. Legit Shook.

McCain should be his Vice President pick. That's it. If you take two people that made it to the white house bid, and lost. Then having them both on the same ticket will make them win. Because it's twice the power.

Makes sense!

I cannot adequately put into words my excitement and anticipation for the 2016 Republican Primary. Just imagining the possible cast of candidates makes me giddy:

- Paul Ryan
- Rand Paul
- Ted Cruz
- Mike Hukabee
- Rick Santorum
- Rick Perry
- Ben Carson
- Bobby Jindal
- Chris Christie
- Jeb Bush
- Mitt Romney

The debates will honestly be the pinnacle of entertainment television. It will literally never get any better. Goddamnit.
would not vote for a single one of them, that is unless we got drunk Romney

In the primaries it won't matter jack shit.

It won't even matter past the primaries. No one will remember the 47% in 2016. The American public has a pitiful memory and it isn't helped by the sheer volume of news events they're hammered with over the course of four years. Hell, Ebola even feels like a century ago at this point. The news cycle is constantly moving and man does it move fast. Even for those that do remember, any references to it will be shouted down by Romney supporters as old news. Dude could easily sidestep pretty much every fuck up he encountered in 2012, not that he deserves to.

But, even if he manages to get past the primaries, Romney's sheer peculiarity in so many areas will get him back into the same hole he dug last time. He'll just have to dig a new one.

The primaries could be really interesting, even more so than 2012.

We won't just have one establishment candidate this time like Mittens up against a bunch of loons.

We could possibly have four establishment candidates in Jeb, Mittens, Walker and Christie and a loon with an actual chance at the nomination like the Huckster.

Well they have people like my parents whose biggest objection to Jeb Bush is not that they dislike his politics, or even they disliked how Bush ran things. But, the name name has such a stigma attached (and you can tell they don't think it's deserved but was just a successful campaign from the democrats to sling mud at the Republicans) that he just won't win.

They're not dumb either. But they listen to far too much Fox News and Rush Limbaugh. And basically buy into news that tells them what they want to hear (less taxes! Less government! We understand the small business owner! That's really all my parents want to hear).
A small business like a breakfast joint run by a family of 3 pulling in 70k operating 7days a week, or like a small finance/legal firm with 20-30 workers pulling in millions working 5 days a week with bank holidays off?

If we're going to have a free-for-all for the nomination, the chances go up that whoever does win leaves the process and enters the general election with an empty campaign chest and a tattered party.

Which would be such a pity. The GOP's theme for the next two years is "Damned if they do, damned if they don't." Go too far right, and centrists run away. Go too far moderate, and extremists stay home. With such a razor-sharp narrow path to 269 electoral votes, they really can't afford to alienate anyone.

America doesn't like a loser, and the economy is no longer terrible (at least in the ways Romney cares about). He doesn't have a snowball's chance.

Did you see the jobs report today?
Remember when Romney promised to get unemployment below 6% by the end of his first term and then it hit 5.6% at the start of 2015 without him?

Dude would just be pissing other idiots' money up a wall with this. Don't run, don't bother.

More than GW?

I suppose that's a matter of perspective, but I would say significantly so. GW just partied hard, fucked up some businesses he inherited via nepotism, and probably didn't do much of anything in the airforce. Fairly boiler plate spoiled blue blood adolescence.

Jeb was dipping into super sketchy real-estate deals with Trafficante connections as well as being a major player in that whole HMO medicade scam bullshit. There is no OMG smoking gun of awfulness for JB, but about 10 minutes of google research on his business dealings in the 80's should make it very clear that he is shady as all fuck.

The whole Bush family is like a bizarre criminal organization unto itself.

He's not crazy enough to win the primaries. He said some insane shit before but he's went through the campaign and the cat's out of the bag: Romney is a "moderate".

Ugh Huckabee, last time I glanced at his show he was bitching about government intrusiveness and advocating a return of the draft.................

If they want to lose, sure. In politics, if you make it to the presidential bid and FAIL...you are proven as unable to win. You are damaged goods. If they really think putting Mitt up against Clinton is going to win them the White House, then this party has given up.

Andrew Jackson lost and ran again, as did Richard Nixon. There might be a couple other examples but I can't think of them at the moment. Why do people try to act like they're political experts when they don't know what they're taking about?

Herman Cain must run again.

"Assume you have a set of integers consisting of the numbers 1 through 8. Mitty, my fellow American, how many numbers must you pick to ensure that there will exist a combination of two numbers in this new set that sum to 9, my favorite number?"

"Umm, I, I don't know..."

"It's five. Now, I'm going to show you the power of what five fingers can do with inspiration from my hero, Machamp. WAKE-UP SLAP!"

I must have the ability to write Herman Cain fanfiction again.

Richard Nixon is the Wile E. Coyote of politics who after trying and trying finally caught the Roadrunner but ended up letting the Roadrunner go due to a big mistake

The one way Hillary can lose if if one big bad skeleton comes out Bill's closet

Not the norm with modern media. Also the examples you give are outliers and there were things happening at the time that made it possible. It's funny you act snarky telling people to not act like political experts when you do the exact same thing.

Also lol chill, I wasn't trying to be all high and mighty. It was just an opinion. Could be a very bad opinion. But don't get the attitude. I meant no harm.

Lastly, while you are right someone has lost and won again later. It doesn't change the fact that for many, a failed campaign makes them seem like they can't win.

I can only imagine the kind of material the Onion can get out of having Bill back in the House. Biden articles are still top tier.

Pretty much. It'll take a black swan-type event to doom her. Especially if the economy continues in this vaguely positive direction.

The Democrats need a tsunami to eek-out control of the House, while the GOP needs a pretty big tidal wave to eek-out a bare victory in the electoral college. We're going to see gridlock until at least 2022, after new districts are drawn.. which means most progress at the federal level (be it leftward or rightward) is going to come via court rulings or executive orders.

That said, I'd much rather have Ruth Bader Ginsburg clones on the court instead of Scalia clones.

Policy-wise, I'd much prefer Warren over him and Hillary.. but the heads exploding when the nut jobs on the right see him as First Gentleman would be hilarious. =P

Well, my dad used to run a local auto repair shop (with I think 2-3 workers) and my mom still owns a hair salon (right now she is trying to find more employees as she's down to one or two. She had a bunch leave to form their own hair salon). So they're looking at it from that POV.

to be fair, the odds aren't very good of someone winning after losing the general election
