LATIN, MATRIPEDICABUS, DO YOU SPEAK IT
Rotten Tomatoes' best reviewed films of the past year. Note that they're not using the Fresh ratings solely for these, but some adjusted Tomatometer score that considers variations in the total amount of reviews. You'll need to mouseover the ranks to see the adjusted score.

We use a weighted formula (Bayesian) to account for variation in the number of reviews per movie. The winners are determined by the rankings, designated as the "adjusted score", after applying said formula:

(R ÷ (R+M) × T + (M ÷ (R+M))) × A

with "R" representing the number of rated reviews, "M" the minimum number of reviews needed for a movie to qualify, "T" the Tomatometer score, and "A" the average Tomatometer of all the qualifying movies.

Wow, I'm surprised by Zombieland.

I thought it was horrible aside from Bill Murray.

3 - Fantastic Mr. Fox

Is this a joke?

It's a joke that you think it's a joke. It's a fantastic film and you're a fool if you think otherwise.

It was a great return to form for Raimi. Dunno what film you saw, bro.

Guess I'm a fool. I enjoyed it, but thought that it was one of Anderson's weaker films. I don't think that his cinematography worked well with the stop-motion models - particularly those straight-on close-up dialog scenes that normally act as humanizing to Anderson's misanthropic characters but had the exact opposite effect for Mr. Fox.

That said, it was much better than Star Trek.

Up is an AWFUL movie. Everyone always talks about how great the first 10 minutes are because it caused them to choke up a few tears. Give me a break. The rest of the movie was dreadful.

Yeah, no.

100% agreed. Couldn't have said it better myself. I think we can all say that Up is the equivalent of Hitler, and everyone who likes it are the gullible Germans.

We are the resistance, the Von Stauffenbergs.

How did An Education rank above In the Loop on the UK list?

Up was Meh. Same with Wall-e really. I have no plans of rewatching either movie. The intro the UP was great though.

What do you mean? It's one of the better films of 2009.

Then please enlighten me - I don't quite understand why the film is so positively acclaimed either.

And I am surprised that AVATAR didn't make it onto the Top 10 list.

You shouldn't be. This may be a shock but a quality script is still more important than special effects.

Great success will always come with backlash. Pixar is just lucky enough that their idiotic backlash is neglected to meaningless internet talk.

I have some catching up to do... pretty weak year for movies, but I still love most of the top 10.

Yeah I wouldn't use this as a guage of the top movies of the year... hell I never go by percentage anyways. A ton of movies stay up around 100%, the thing that matters most is the average rating.

Again, they don't use the Fresh rating by itself, they're using some weird modified score off of that:

We use a weighted formula (Bayesian) to account for variation in the number of reviews per movie. The winners are determined by the rankings, designated as the "adjusted score", after applying said formula:

(R ÷ (R+M) × T + (M ÷ (R+M))) × A

Anvil and Moon were probably my favourite films of 09. Still need to check out Up, and The Hurt Locker, and The Hangover.

Do I see the inklings of a Pixar backlash forming? Damn them and their fresh storytelling and lovable characters! I'll wait seven months for the shitty Dreamworks knockoff!

This year has been excellent!
