Hahahaha, people are comparing 3D and pretty, overpriced CGI to the invention of synchronized sound.
Wow.

Well... let me ask you this... what do you consider to be an advancement of the cinema experience? And who do you think is pushing the "art" of cinema in 2012?
Visually it was interesting but isn't that like... to the credit of the artist who worked on the film, and not Cameron? And no artistic dignity? On what grounds can you legitimately make such an assertion? Was the world of Pandora not his own creation? His story is simplistic no doubt, but there is MUCH more to a movie beyond a story.
Considering that Cameron himself was involved as a designer, nevermind how detailed the scripts are regarding the visual design, how specific his actual requests are to the other designers and modelers, and of course as director obviously has final say on anything design related, then well...yeah I guess he doesn't deserve any credit whatsoever.Visually it was interesting but isn't that like... to the credit of the artist who worked on the film, and not Cameron?
Come on guys, anybody could have made Avatar.
Yeah, dude obviously just sat in his house smoking cigars made out of $1000 bills (yeah $1000 bills), and barked orders, waiting for people to make the movie. I mean, what else do you expect from someone ZERO ARTISTIC DIGNITY!Come on guys, anybody could have made Avatar.
Actually, artistically, most good directors probably could

I laughed.
Not hard to make up big trees, fancy lights, and big blue cats. And then ripping off everything else known to man.
Argues someone has no artistic dignity.
Recommends that said person should just let other people write their movies rather than them owning it 100%
Is it just me or is that kinda funny?
People without artistic dignity can still write scripts, bro.
People who don't have massive, douchebag egos should realize they can't write worth shit and pass the script along to someone who doesn't write, quite possibly, the worst lines I've ever heard in a gigantic blockbuster.
When your scripts are responsible for some of the most iconic and successful movies of all time, who in their right fucking mind would think they need to hand control over to someone else.People without artistic dignity can still write scripts, bro.

Both Aliens and The Abyss are absolutely fantastic scripts. So again, you don't know what you're talking about.
Was he actually drawing the designs, making the models, and deciding which to animals to mash together to make a 'new' one, etc? I'm not saying nor have I ever (so I don't know where you're getting THAT from) that he doesn't deserve some credit for what was the best part of the movie (the CG/the visuals), I'm just saying that I give much more credit to the.... actual artist who made the... art.Considering that Cameron himself was involved as a designer, nevermind how detailed the scripts are regarding the visual design, how specific his actual requests are to the other designers and modelers, and of course as director obviously has final say on anything design related, then well...yeah I guess he doesn't deserve any credit whatsoever.

For the record, I like Avatar and saw it 3 times in theaters (granted, I did work at a movie theater at the time so it was all free).
He designed and personally drew several of the creatures, the Navi are pretty much his own design as well. You can see his own artwork in the various Making Of and Art of books for the film. Was he actually drawing the designs, making the models, and deciding which to animals to mash together to make a 'new' one, etc? Michael Biehn, the protagonist of Terminator. This is a really silly question, but who's the actor on the left? He looks really familiar but I can't place him.

Ah, yes, I see it now. He was reminding me of someone else whom I still can't place, though. (Plus, I thought the actor on the right was Biehn in that gif)![]()

Goddamn, the Avatar creatures all looked so dumb. Like Final Fantasy rejects.
And I'm not gonna lie, thewas one of the most gratifying movie theater experiences of my life. Not because I felt bad for them. No, the opposite. I was so happy to see it happen. Something finally actually happened in the movie.tree burning sequence
You are the very definition of a tryhard.
Just look at this little guy!

And Hicks from Aliens. Cameron should give him some kind of part in Avatar 2. That'd be awesome.
almost every animal in avatar is earth animal with one extra pair or eyes or limb.
Just look at this little guy!

I've had these thoughts since I first saw the movie.
While my friend was crying over that scene, I was laughing my ass off.
He was originally going to play Quaritch.
Intentional. They wanted the animals to feel alien but familiar.
