Final battle is basically getting unanimous praise. The entire movie is, pretty much, but most reviews are highlighting the final act in particular.

Man, Cameron fucking did it, didn't he?

He gives negative reviews to a lot of things that are widely considered good and good reviews to things that are widely considered bad (Transformers 2, for example). He's the strangest film critic in the world; he's pretty much a troll, but I suspect that there is a method to his madness that really makes sense only to him.

White probably gets payed to go against the general consensus since that would most likely sell more copies of whatever he is published in.

Ebert can get hung up on small things, but to say he usually gives the wrong rating is terribly wrong. and to hate the man in general is wrong too. He's a fucking boss. Look up his blog or Twitter sometime, it's ace.

I've read that it's a bit long and, obviously, full of explosions explosions explosions. I'm not a fan of this, but then again, I'm basing this dislike on those ridiculous explosive scenes from Transformers.

sorry everyone, got stuck in a terrible snowstorm and almost died, not kidding. We are 60 miles from home in a cheap ass motel. I can't believe we are alive. With that said, if the embargo is listed, I would like to eat a sandwich.

:lol AVATAR was FUCKING awesome. They story is super generic and all the corny lines are all intact, but it doesn't really matter. It's just pure joy for 161 minutes. I can talk a lot more about it if anyone has any questions.

I'd give it a 9.5 out of 10

I agree. I love Ebert. I certainly don't agree with him all the time, but I think he generally does a good job at explaining his position, and often offers some pretty unique impressions. I like his writing style a lot.

Is the final battle that spectacular?

Yep, the final battle was amazing, but I enjoyed exploring parts of the world a bit more. The bioluminescence at night will make your jaw drop.

Was it in 3D? IMAX?

Yeah one of the reviews highlighted that, too. Something about Neytiri or whoever lighting a torch at night and the audience suddenly experiencing an explosion of visual delight.

Or something like that. :P

Yep, absolutely no earth. They talk about how there is no "mother nature" there anymore. The film starts with Jake's narration over the swooping shot of Pandora (trees in the mist).

who has better handles in avatar basketball?

Irrelevant. They're bigger than Yao and far more athletic and acrobatic. Just have them stand under the rim most of the time and Wilt Chamberlain the shit out of the opposition.

I definitely don't hate Ebert. I've agreed with him many other times. It is just that I never know which Ebert will be have seen the movie that day. He can regress into a child sometimes, which is a shame because when he's at his best he articulates really well the pros and cons of a film.

Ebert is a totally boss critic. He can get hung up on small things in movies, but in general, he has very well-formed opinions on just about everything. The way that he writes about movies (especially in his Great Movies reviews) is just so elegant and fun to read.

Seconding this, and also, just in general, without any spoilers, is the ending tolerable/believable?

The ending is
fine. It's not that cheesy, but there are many moments with the Na'vi that if you don't really buy it it can come off pretty ridiculous. The film is actually void of a lot of dialogue, which is nice.
The experience you have while watching the film is worth the somewhat corny stuff, and it blends pretty nicely.

RealD, no IMAX. The only problems were during fast human movements. Kind of jarring. Everything on Pandora is absolutely beautiful though.

You only see it for a quick second, but Sigourney Weaver's avatar
misses a shot

Yiiiiiiiiiikes.

I think I'm out of here :lol

Karma Kramer said:
So did you experience much ghosting problems in the 3D Plainview... like in the final battle was it too overwhelming in 3D?

NOTHING with CG elements (on the Pandora world) is a problem, only the human stuff in their base(mostly at the beginning)

Wait... could you just say something without spoilers haha?

Combine said:
Oh so wait, in terms of the corny lines, do they really end up using
"jarhead"
all the time? :lol

No, it turns into a joke the way it was used. Don't worry about that. There is plenty of corny stuff with the Na'vi's though

DanielPlainview said:
I was just being safe, didn't spoil anything actually. I removed it.

Ah okay... yeah I wasn't sure. Awesome!

Do you think its possible it was only ghosting in the human parts cause that was in the beginning and it sometimes takes a little time for your brain/eyes to adjust to the 3D completely? Or did you notice throughout the human parts had more problems?

rhino4evr said:
so how would you rate it compared to Cameron's other flicks?

hmmm, I love love love Terminator 2, so that would be tops. It's better than Titanic, True Lies, Terminator. I haven't seen in Aliens in awhile but I remember loving it. Never seen The Abyss. I would say it's his 3rd best (behind T2 and Aliens) if I had to. It's ridiculously hard to compare because it truly is like no movie I've ever seen.

Zeliard said:
Haha okay Sculli. :P

Hey Plainview, was it comfortable wearing the glasses for the entire running time?

Absolutely. Didn't even notice them further into the film. Very similar to my Up experience.

I don't know. It was slightly uncomfortable even after 15 minutes or so.

Wow I gotta say I've been pretty positive about the movie but even I'm blown away by the unanimous praise.

So, when you say some of the Na'vi dialogue is corny, is it because of the writing or because they're being overly Neolithic? If it's the latter, that's kinda expected.
