Does anyone think the film will be extended? There are literally no good seats for the London IMAX! :(

No good seats, even for the January screenings?

EDIT* Jesus christ just checked and your're right. The whole month of January is pretty much fully booked up.

I hope that this Leona Lewis nomination doesn't mean we'll have to endure her singing at the Oscars, probably with an Avatar being projected behind her doing exactly what she is doing...

:lol That'd be awesome.

How soon before we hear "NOMINATED FOR FOUR GOLDEN GLOBES INCLUDING BEST PICTURE" at the end of every TV spot.

Looks like Cameron convinced the critics.

In like 2 hours. :lol

Yeah I'm incredibly shocked and concerned.

I really must see it at the IMAX. :/

Armond White's review

http://www.nypress.com/article-20710-blue-in-the-face.html

Basically, the movie is not good and Michael Bay is gifted.

That has to be the most stupid movie review I have ever read. What the fuck is this supposed to mean:

Cameron fashionably denounces the same economic and military system that make his technological extravaganza possible. It’s like condemning NASA—yet joyriding on the Mars Exploration Rover.

So, you can't have a message about the economy because they make the movie possible? Is this guy serious.

“There’s a network of energy that flows through all living things.” Alien-girl Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) teaches Sully how to bond with a tie-dyed, eagle-like creature by docking his wriggly tail into it. “Feel her!” Neytiri urges, and Cameron emulates the boy-plus-car symbiosis of Transformers—but with pulsing loins, veins and orifices. Better than Titanic’s kitschy romanticism, it is Cameron’s most sensual incident since the husband-wife airlift of True Lies yet, strangely, this sexualized conquest suggests latent fascism in his style.

Good stuff, good stuff.

There is a press screening at the theater near my house today at 5:30, me and a friend are gonna try to see if we can sneak in.

Depending on whether its a real IMAX or a Liemax, the benefits are different, having experience all 3. I will say that both True IMAX and LieMAX are both better than Real D. Worth the drive.

Oh by the way, 24 hours from now I will be half an hour into my screening. :D
Sweet, thanks for the clarification. The Imax is a real 3D Imax. They also have a bunch of fake Imax as well as RealD3d rooms in the same theater as well but only 1 real one which I saw the kick ass Avatar preview in. Blew my mind.

IMAX 3D Experience™ it is then. Can't freaking wait. :D

Anecdotal estrogen report:

My group of 10 friends going to the show consists of an equal number of males and females. Only 2 of the females would be considered sci-fi geeks.

The girls will not stop talking about the animals and the colors.

Well i can't think of any 3D films out in February, So they may extend,i would suggest signing up to the BFI Imax website as that way you get news straight away and it gives you a heads up for when things like pre sales are happening.

But Damm if your intent on waiting i think there are some good seats for the end of January depending on the time you want to go.

Other than that you may want to give one of the early morning screenings a look.

And then there’s his underlying purpose: Avatar is the corniest movie ever made about the white man’s need to lose his identity and assuage racial, political, sexual and historical guilt.

Seriously??? His schtick of finding some kind of racial thing in every movie is so fucking stupid. Also, see his The Princess & The Frog review.

Avatar is in IMAX until March but if things keep going the way they are Avatar might still be there well into May

.... He tries his hardest to make the movie seem horrible. Finished reading it and all I could do was shake my head. How can anyone take him seriously; he should really be removed from RT.

Edit: He bashes escapism then how the fuck can he like any movie that is fiction. Movies are meant to be escapism

now Ill have to deal with "lol avatar dropped into the low 80s because douchebag Armond flopped it, I knew the early reviews were moneyhatted LOLOLOLOLOL " people on other forums I visit

So people actually believe A. White is a real critic?

I booked mine a month ago to the day, and the best I could get was 2nd of Jan at an evening showing - so I'm not surprised by this in the slightest!

White's review is pretty annoying, but the movie does seem really shmoozy. That "energy through all living things" bit is like an eye roll generator.

Not really. Its a common belief amont some scientists, including Carl Sagan. The idea that everything comes from the stuff Stars are made off and so the universe is in us making everything connected in some way so to speak, so its very logical that another world has that kind of synergy.

I expect this to drop to around sub 70% over the weekend. Movie looks way too generic, substantially.

So you basically expect all the rest of the reviewers to hate this movie? If so then why does it have a 86% rating after 58 reviews?

is that real or a joke?

I also expect it to drop...but a a completely different reason: (because it doesn't look generic at all) very bad written troll reviews like the Amond White one for the sake of non conformity. :lol

Maybe sub 70% is pushing, but there's going to WAY more reviews after the weekend. For a movie this big, there will eventually be over 200 reviews. Maybe mid-high 70s. From what I can tell, few people actually "hate" the movie. The split seems to be between those that can appreciate the technical fidelity on display over the plot, and those that can't.

Scientists believe that we are all made of electrons and protons bound together by some type of energy. I think the belief that we are all made of electrons is pretty commonly misconstrued by hippie types to mean that we are all spiritually connected in some meaningful fashion......which is pretty corny.

Yes, because non-conformists only worship non-conformity in-itself and have no higher purpose but to spite sheep and shepherd alike.

Who's to say it isn't meaningful? The truth of the matter is, the world/universe is a connected network of life - it's a scientific fact, in every area of science. What subjective meanings are derived from that fact is up to each and every beholder. Lay off the hippies.
