that's a bit of a copout, as there's nothing in any other scenes to suggest this at all.

Except for that scene with Quaritch pumping iron where he makes a point of explaining that the gravity is weak.

Don't get so high before you watch movies.

The Survival Guide is the one to get. The scrapbook is basically just a simplified/younger age version.

The Survival Guide is really thorough, but the articles on the online Pandorapedia seem like they might eventually be more in depth

I want to buy Grace's book featured in the film, simply titled "Na'vi".

Cameron is so dedicated he actually had Sigourney write an 800 page book about Na'vi just to feature it as a prop in the movie

After seeing it for the 2nd time, I'm feeling sad that once its gone from theaters, there will be no way to see it in full 3D for some time. =(

If you have the cash, you'll be able to the day it's releases for BD.

i didn't get high before i watched this one, unfortunately :p i meant other scenes with regards to gravity, visually. everything reacted as you would expect it to.

i know he said that, that's why he was working out.

Mojo updated with yesterday's Monday take overseas, which was $37m. Total WW Monday box office was $56.5m.

World-wide total now stands at $726m.

Up to #39 on the all-time chart, ahead of Transformers. Next stop: 2012.

My sister just told me that the theater she went to was packed and it's guaranteed that she's going to see it a second time. Cameron prints money indeed.
Quoting meself: my other sister just arrived from the movies hours later. She went on her own though :lol

Prints money x2

I remember the line, but can't for the life of me remember what scene it was from. :lol
When Quaritch is getting into his mech talking to Jake for the first time. Quote is something like this...

"A military jarine in an Avatar body, that's a potent mix, damn well gives me the goosebumps!"

Solo said:
Pretty much :lol There were actually TWO very poor decisions, music editing-wise, in the final battle sequence. The aforementioned hacking of "War", and the "Ewya has heard you!" cue.
Definitely. I mean, there are a ton of things that I can nitpick regarding the film, but those two things are really garbage.

wtf is a jarine? I didnt understand that word in the movie

Jarhead + Marine?

Quatrich says "jarine"? :lol Didn't notice. Seems Cameron was kind of obsessed with the word jarhead. At least he had the good sense to cut out the "are you out of your jarhead mind!?" line. :P

Even the article for the spaceship at the beginning is huge:

http://www.pandorapedia.com/doku.php/isv_venture_star

Cameron said they will update the site more and more over the next few months. Its going to be HUGE when all is said and done.
There's something I don't understand... Is Pandorapedia supposed to be an official thing? Because to me it looks like any other wiki where anyone can edit anything.

Hell, I even made an account and I now have the option to edit any articles I want.

Looks like the update was for Tuesday international figures; it made $63m on Monday+Tuesday overseas according to the boxofficemojo forums. My bad.

So Avatar brought in about $100m even on Monday+Tuesday world-wide.

I'm staring at that sentence, and it's just so absurd I can't believe I wrote it.

Not according to Cameron, no.

I was under the impression this titles was going to lead the 3D PR train for BD and HDTV's.

[EDIT]

http://www.movieweb.com/news/NEbDEgfjzSfcef

Looks like it's still up in the air. They may release it initially as 2D, and then re-release it towards the end of next year in 3D ... but that could be fluid.

Wonder what the chance is of the BDA and CE's talking Fox into holding out for the 3D release? :p

I was wondering the same thing, so I did a whois look up and it appears that it is official as it's owned by Fox :P

Oh, that's cool. So I guess they have the final word on what's put in there.
Thanks for clearing that up!

Just saw it a second time. This time I made a point of showing up early to avoid getting downgraded to the 2D like last time. I got there 35 minutes early and still got a seat in the very front row. Was a little difficult to see the whole screen, but this is so damn immersive in IMAX 3D. I felt like the parts that dragged in the 2D went quickly in 3D. Overall, the $15 and neck pain for the second viewing in IMAX 3D was very worth it.

There'd be no point in including 3D support now when so few 3D screens are available, when they can milk the release later when it's more widespread. :P

I just hope we get the director's cut soon.

Considering it will still be in theaters for a while though, I would guess the DVD/BD release won't be until summer anyway?

I actually wouldn't be surprised if they can have their arms twisted to just hold off for the 3-D release towards the end of the year. Releasing it in time for Christmas would yield some crazy day 1 sales numbers imo.

And for the people (ie the majority) that won't actually have a 3-D BD player and TV, they could put it up in theaters for a limited engagement :p

Well shit, I didn't expect it to exist already, nor do I expect that it ever will, just that I wish it did so I could read it.

$726 Million already. Well deserved. I loved The Dark Knight too, but I have this expectation and hope Avatar surpasses it for whatever reason.

Can't wait to see the 3D version at some point soon.

AVATAR has already sunk Titanic at the Australian box office.
I'm pretty sure that's not true, but in any case Titanic was never on top in Australia. That honor, curiously enough, goes to Crocodile Dundee, which if you look at the number of tickets sold was apparently attended by 56% of the continent's population and will probably never be surpassed.

Or rather its on track to take down Titanic at the Aussie Box Office - according to other sites. Titanic's box office total is 57.6m in Australia and Croc Dundee is 4th with 47.7m.

I meant admissions-wise and in Aussie-dollars (which have fluctuated widely in exchange rate with US dollars). But yeah, Avatar is on track to take it down in Australia, it's doing even better there than it is here.

Before I head off to bed... you guys should check out this interview with Stephen Lang (Quaritch). The good stuff is at the bottom :D

http://movieblog.ugo.com/movies/stephen-lang-interview

Some potential Avatar II spoilers so I'll spoiler tag it in case anyone wants to remain like a baby until it's out, but it's really just speculation.

MP: So I know your character doesn't make it in the end, but...

SL: Don't be too sure.

MP: Well that's what I want to know, could we see the rise of Quaritch?

SL: Listen, the rules are different on Pandora. I can't say one way or another, but if you remember I say, "nothing's over as long as I'm breathing." Well my mantra now is, "nothing's over as long as I got DNA."

MP: I like that prospect! Who knows where people go on Pandora.

SL: I think it depends on where Jim wants to take the story. There's a whole universe of stories to be told and he's just scratched the surface.

That's retarded. Hope Stephen is just shit talking.

Maybe Quaritch
gets absorbed into the earth and the essence of his evil takes over the planet consciousness and makes the planet turn against the Na'vi

lol...

Final battle is a
Tree shaped Quaritch as big as hometree

I'd really really like to hope that James Cameron has more imagination than the typical manga/anime/jrpg writer. Although he is preparing for Battle Angel :(

The Na'vi and Eywa versus scores of warheads

It will be 3 minutes long and cost $600 million to make.

Noooo, then it'll be like the Matrix 2
imagines Jake and Neytiri fighting a horde of Quaritch clones in the same manner as Tsu'Tey. Actually, that sounds pretty cool :lol :lol

Just got back from my 4th viewing. My staff loved it (most have already seen it). Biggest problem I had was all the 18-19 year old girls in the row behind us and a few of the same age guys in front of us. They giggled/laughed at the love scene,
the part where all of the na'vi are doing their ritual to save grace and the end when Neytiri was holding Jake in her arms...they straight up laughed loudly.
it really took me out of the movie =( I guess its an excuse to see it again. Granted most of them were saying good things when it was over, but the immature little shits ruined the experience for me.

The first 3 times I was in packed sold out houses and the entire theater was quiet the entire film till it was over until this viewing where it was 80% or so full. =(
