Amazing, that video went from "wowza that's a long line" to "gtfoh" about half way through
The same for me. Simply a gorgeous piece of cinema, and the reason I'm already hankering to go see Avatar again.gdt5016 said:Banshee taming/flight. I think so too.

#2 in the world after 20 days. Holy...
Enough that it's starting to get embarrassing.Gui_PT said:How many times have you seen the movie?
Based on its Monday gross and its weekday drops so far, a conservative estimate would put it at around $45 million for the weekend. I expect a somewhat a softer drop for Avatar, though, so I'm predicting a bit under $50 million. $40 million, while still record-breaking, would be somewhat disappointing.mckmas8808 said:I'm going to predict that it's going to have around a -40% drop. So that would put it around $40 Million this weekend domestically.
GhaleonEB said:Enough that it's starting to get embarrassing.four - once with my wife opening night, once with my daughter the following weekend, once to see how Dolby compared to RealD (shit), and then again before my wife and kids got back from visiting family
Though nowhere near as embarrassing at the number of times I saw Titanic in theaters. Left to my own volition, Avatar might rival that run. :lol
I was the reason Titanic was #1, so that would be fitting. :lolGui_PT said:"Ghaleon. The reason why Avatar is #2"![]()

PhatSaqs said:I've seen it twice. Once in IMAX and once in R3D.
Awesome both times. Enjoyed IMAX more.
mckmas8808 said:Yeah I'm expecting the numbers to be a little bit lower this weekend. I'd like for it to hit $50M though.
It made over $220 million worldwide last weekend, if I recall correctly, and the daily drops overseas have been extremely soft. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see $160 to $170 million this weekend.FirewalkR said:That would probably mean almost 200 worldwide... how much has it been making worldwide just in the weekends?
Loonz said:I went yesterday to watch it. It was the second time, and in 3D again. And I have to say I enjoyed the film even more than the first time. I can't believe how is this even possible, but it's just that Avatar is damn awesome. I think I could rewatch it til' end of time. When the movie ends you feel really disconnected to the real world around you, you just wish to come back to Pandora again.
As an anecdote, I live in a small western town in Spain* and the theater was completely packed!. That's not so surprising given that yesterday was a major holiday in Spain though.
*not so subtle Resident Evil reference
Gui_PT said:There's no IMAX in Spain, is there?
Loonz said:Not where I live but there's one in Madrid (part of my family who live there have watched it in the IMAX theater, they say it's a glorious experience). There's another one in Barcelona of course.
Gui_PT said:How come there isn't one in Portugal? =\

Loonz said:I hope you have access to any 3D enabled theater. The movie is so much enjoyable in 3D (at least for me) that is no funny.
:lolFirewalkR said:Because we suck.
We don't suck THAT much.(well.. perhaps in the interior... and the south... :s)
Gui_PT said::lol
"we don't suck that much! well, I guess we do.. except in the north"
Guess we gotta go to Spain, eh?
GhaleonEB said:So looking at the all-time domestic chart:
Avatar will jump from #14 to #12 with yesterday's haul. And then today's will move it up to #10.
Assuming a $50m weekend to be conservative, it's around #5, give or take a slot. And then it's $100m away from TDK and $170m away from Titanic. TDK will fall probably two weeks after that, and then we'll see if Avatar has a long enough tail to edge past Titanic. I think it will.
FirewalkR said:There was (and is) a big screen in the Centro Multimeios in Espinho (there's a planetarium there too) and I could swear that some years ago it actually was an IMAX screen. I don't know how this works, but if it's franchised or something, perhaps it was and the owners didn't upgrade the equipment as time went by and lost the right to use the IMAX designation. In their site they even say "with an IMAX-like screen" lol. No 3D though.

And on that note:adg1034 said:That's just balls-out insane. On every level. Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. The top 10 titles (Titanic excluded) are pretty bunched up, to be fair, but jumping from #10 to #5 in a single weekend, especially if that weekend is only its fourth in release... Mortal expletives cannot convey this.

Apparently, this guy will become available in Q2 of 2010 (for iZ3D gaming systems and RealD video), at prices starting at $90 -- with prescription eyewear to become available in Q3.
gdt5016 said:Thats not to rag on the climax, which is like the best directed, paced, and plain awesome action in years.
Zeliard said:The middle section of the film, with Jake's initiation and training with Neytiri, is simply beyond gorgeous (the visuals, the music, everything). That whole section is my favorite part of the film by far. I really wish there'd been more of it. I literally could have watched 3 hours of those two just wandering around the Pandoran jungle and getting into adventures.
Though since Cameron has said the sequel would focus a lot more on the Jake/Neytiri relationship, we should be seeing a lot more of stuff like that in the next one.
It is kind of hilarious looking a the all-time charts. Yay! Avatar is #2!Sharp said:It really is a remarkable achievement. Titanic isn't going down quite as easily, though.

DihcarEM said:I think Avatar was a test for this, because the sequel will have.two huge blue aliens as the lead
Also i think Jake's training is far from done, there are so many things he doesn't know about the planet, moons, ect. And we will discover these things with him.
Here's a pretty good, short interview Cameron did right before it opened when he talked about the idea of a "three film arc".How About No said:And I'm not sure if there's merit to this, but a friend I saw the movie with said there's plans for a trilogy. I haven't been keeping up, so I could be wrong![]()
Somnia said:I agree with this. I honestly don't see that many humans involved in the sequel/sequels at all.

The action finale would be my second favorite scene, no doubt.
