And the Oscar thread should be interesting as well. I love Avatar and will praise it to the ends of the earth, but honestly I dont feel it should win Best Picture this year. A nom would be cool, but it just doesnt click with me as a "Best Picture" winning type film. (Blasphemous, I know)
PhoncipleBone said:I dont know if the world could handle that much awesomeness. Just add him to my list of wanting Christian Bale and Russell Crowe to work on a Cameron movie together. Just add Gary Oldman in, and perhaps Ed Harris (if he is on speaking terms with Cameron) and you have a very volatile mix of actors there.
And of course, Bill Paxton must return.
Sorry.duckroll said:I'm sorry guys, I locked the crow eating thread because it's..... really badly done. It had a terribly uninformative OP, just a bunch of random quotes, and didn't really connect to anything at all. No RT rating, no boxoffice numbers, nothing. Really disappointing job, I can't believe it was supposed to have been "in the works" for some time. It just ended up looking childish and dumb.

I haven't seen a more nutso group than avatar fans honestly. Well, maybe titanic fans and twilight fans. All three are very similar though.Solo said:Since I love seeing nutzo TDK fans getting worked up, it will amuse me to no end when Avatar a) overtakes its gross intake, and b) gets all the Oscar noms TDK didnt :lol
Let's have a decent thread when Avatar beats Titanic. That should give the OP plenty of time to actually make a good thread.duckroll said:I'm sorry guys, I locked the crow eating thread because it's..... really badly done. I think the right place for that kind of thing is when Titanic becomes the #1 movie of all time and there's a thread about that. No need to force it or even call it a crow thread. Crow threads are always better when they emerge from the news.duckroll said:I'm sorry guys, I locked the crow eating thread because it's..... really badly done. I'm thinking more of the hive mentality, the obsession with the numbers, the attacks on anyone who doesn't care for the movie, the attempts to read deep meaning into a movie on par with pocahontas and fern gully, and lol worthy oscar talk, and so on. And no, not talking only about gaf so a preemptive "settle down" if that gets your goat. Also, TDK is overrated.Solo said:No one in this thread has called Avatar the greatest film of all-time. Thanks Duck. Will keep that in mind.duckroll said:I think what you need to do is to take more feedback from what people want the thread to be. If it's just a bunch of quotes which only have meaning to people like us who have been following Avatar threads for a year, then it really doesn't deserve to be a thread at all.
On the other hand, the idea of an actual crow eating thread is appealing if there was actual correlation between what people predicted previously or declared to be a foregone conclusion, only be to owned by the facts now.
A good example would be for example to have different sections of crow eating. There are of course the people who believed that mainstream audiences and critics would NOT like the movie. The premise seemed dumb and it looked to be something which people would not be interested in. The RT score would clearly indicate that critics did end up liking it, and that would be one sort of ownage. The other is of course the box office takings, where there is a TON of crow being served.
All this has to be presented in a way that is easily understandable for people who have never read a box office or Avatar thread, and having references to previous threads would make it more entertaining for people who want to go back and see what the reactions and vibe was over the last 1-2 years.
Just some suggestions...
In my defence, I was obsessed with BO numbers during TDK's run too, I just love to watch BO phenomenons.elrechazao said:I'm thinking more of the hive mentality, the obsession with the numbers, the attacks on anyone who doesn't care for the movie, the attempts to read deep meaning into a movie on par with pocahontas and fern gully, and lol worthy oscar talk, and so on. lolworthy refers to the merit of any best picture award, not the existence thereof. If it does win, it will be number one on the top "should have never won" lists of all time 20 years from now. When my kids look back at it they'll wonder why something that looks as bad to them as clash of the titans looks to us now was so rewarded critically, and they'll only be left with the story and wonder wtf our generation was thinking.gdt5016 said:Wait, you're arguing against the notion of Avatar getting the Oscar? It's the front runner right now, apparently beating out Up In The Air.
Whether you dig the movie or not, that doesn't change the above statement.

I agree, and I'm not saying it shouldn't win oscars. It should sweep nearly every technical category.OuterWorldVoice said:This is an excellent point. The movie's main achievements are in VFX, not acting and certainly not writing. So it's epic today, but the Harryhausen effect will be visible in the future.

For all that is holy, please leave that out of an excellent movie. Some things should be left up to the imagination. Other things, like lizard people sex, should be left to the imagine of extra special people on the internet.
I'd love to see them attempt to portray that tastefully.FirewalkR said:Just show them explicitly (hur hur) linking their neural interfaces and move on.

on the other hand i'm going to watch inglorious basterds for the 3rd times this week because our university is showing it for 2,50. Of course finding people wasn't a problem in this case.
Argh.

Why do they suck? If I had a friend who wanted to spend 30-40$ to see the same movie 3 times in a row. I think it would be the other way around. :lolBlablurn said:bah, my friends suck. i want to watch it for a 3rd time but no one wants to join me. either someone has no money or they just don't want to watch it. and they other guys who came with me in the first two times are not into this "watching a movie multiple times" thing![]()

Something I'd like to get some thoughts on is whether or not people think the sequel should have a new composer. If it were any other new Cameron movie I would say yes, but the fact is that when films in a series switch composers, you definitely feel like a sense of continuity with that film world is lost. Off the top of my head I'm thinking of Terminator with the loss of Fiedel, Spider-Man with the loss of Elfman etc. I think a part of me would prefer to keep the continuity of the score and pray for something fresh in the vein of AVATAR.
I can't stop listening to Jablonsky's track from The Island (also in the AVTR trailer obviously) and wishing somebody else had scored AVATAR, despite there being many good tracks. I'm just so mad at Horner for not stepping it up and recycling the same music for a film that is so special and that he had so much time to work on. He is the definition of playing it safe.
