RPGs: PSP vs DS

I love RPGs and I, therefore, love my PS2. But the paltry offering provided thus far for the PSP is lacking. With the recent Namco annoucement of Baten Kaitos DS and, especially Xenosaga DS, I was prompted to compile the following list. It seems very odd to me that Namco would move their Xenosaga property from Sony to Nintendo, but then, Square once did the opposite with Final Fantasy.

Confirmed PSP RPG/Adventure RPG/Strategy titles:

SCEI:
PoPoLoCrois Monogatari: Pietro Ouji no Bouken

Square Enix:
Crisis Core - FF VII Action RPG

Nihon Falcom:
Gagharv Trilogy
YS VI - The Ark of Napishtim (port)

Level-5:
New RPG

Namco:
Tales of Eternia (port)

Never Land:
Generation of Chaos: Shin Tenmakai

Nippon Ichii Software:
Makkai Wars

Mad Monkey Studios:
NaOmi

Hudson Soft:
REN-GOKU: The Tower of Purgatory

For an RPG fan, this list is looking mighty disappointing compared to the confirmed Nintendo DS RPG/Adventure RPG/Strategy titles:

Nintendo:
Another
Advance Wars DS
Animal Crossing DS
Legend of Zelda DS
Pokemon Diamond/Pearl

Square Enix:
Final Fantasy III
Egg Monster Hero
New Dragon Quest Caravan RPG
New Dragon Quest Slime RPG
New Secret of Mana RPG
New Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles RPG

Namco:
New Baten Kaitos RPG
New Xenosaga RPG

Konami:
Vandal Hearts DS
Boktai DS
Survival Kids DS (similar to Zelda/Harvest Moon)
Legend of the Mystical Ninja
Yugioh: Nightmare of Troubadour

Atlus:
Shin Megami Tensei DS

Gamearts:
New RPG

Chunsoft:
New Mysterious Dungeon RPG

Marvelous Interactive:
Harvest Moon DS
New RPG

That's 23 titles confirmed RPG/Adventure RPG/Strategy titles for the Nintendo DS compared to 10 confirmed RPG/Adventure RPG/Strategy titles for the Sony PSP.

If you are an RPG fan, which new handheld are you looking forward to most and why? Does the mention of Crisis Core FFVII Action RPG for the PSP outweigh the long list of unique and well known RPGs coming to the DS all by itself?

It seems to me that Nintendo's handhelds will continue the legacy of being the first choice for RPG gamers on the go. But there is always the possibility that Sony has some surprises for us, and I love surprises. Of course, it's also possible that Nintendo has more surprises too!

Oh noes. What a sly twist on your "Rpgs are the best on Nintendo portables" thread. :lol

But I don't play portable RPG games. Well, I may if I get a Gamecube GBA Player. Overall, right now, I'd give the nod to the GBA. But we'll see a year or two down the road.

Actually, I take that all back. Level 5 is making a portable RPG game?

I think you're being hasty with drawing conclusions here. Just because a Xenosaga game for NDS has been announced doesn't mean the series is going to be moved. Konami released a ZOE game for GBA, but the main series remained PS2 exclusive. There are similar examples too, so I don't think we can say they have moved the series from "Sony to Nintendo" unless you know more than I do about this matter.

Indeed.

This game tops my most wanted:) Even more so than FFVII:CC (until they release screens anyway)
I'd be mighty pissed if no one bring this to the US, again:(

I can't wait to try out FF:Crystal Chronicles and Zelda Four Swords on the DS. Playing with 3 friends through the game should be awesome. :)
