RTX 5090 Review Thread

Gave up. Spent some money on a 4TB SSD instead. I'll spend the weekend figuring out how to transfer my OS off my old 1TB m.2 over to the new drive.
Extra space to play games on my RTX 4070 that will have to last me.
If your PC has 2 m.2 slots pretty much create a boot disk with clonezilla and gparted. I think I used Yumi to create the boot disk on a thumb drive.

Yeah I'm done.

What a pathetic launch.

There'll be new stock.

I'm not upset or hurting not getting one BUT this is probably the worse launch they've ever had. It's pathetic they they could not plan, AT THE MINIMUM, the same amount of what they had of the 5080 and 90 as the 40 series.

I'm looking forward to seeing how people deal with the 575w of heat being dumped in their cases and on their components near the GPU. I wouldn't want to put my SSD right under one of these...

Long riser cable so the cards runs outside of the case. :messenger_winking_tongue:

I've seen 90cm pci-e 5.0 riser cables out there.

what a joke.

so basically for Astral cards. if you just unplug the 4th fan from the card ( you dont need to open the card, just unplug it from the connector ),

you will get same temps. not a single digit higher. and around 8 db less noise because whoever designed that fan is a full-on retard.

cards run at 38db full load compared to whatever it was before.

hope Asus can firmware update it to run at the lowest speed possible all the time.

like what the fuck were they thinking? not a single fuckhead tried to test the card before they ship it and said "oh wait this sounds a bit loud and we are raping the customers so much money we might need to look at this shit fan before we send the units? "

what a fucking shit of a company Asus can be.

I yeah it’s stunningly crap engineering from the AIBs. The design of these coolers is archaic and mostly for aesthetics than actual cooling efficiency. Founders cards the last few gens have completely blown away what the AIBs are cooking, and I don’t really know what the future even holds for AIBs at this point.

From what I understand in certain markets ASUS is viewed as being very “premium” so garbage like this probably still sells.

the 4090 FE was awesome. I had that card. the 5090 design from an engineering stand point is amazing. but in terms of temps and noise ? lol not even close.

its hot. memory temps are hot in 90s. and its loud. in a small SFF build you will have to lower the card to 80% performance for it not to cause too much heat / loudness. you can check some of the small builds with that card.

not to mention the AIB cards at least for this gen. makes the 5090 FE weak. if the 5090 was considered 4090 ti, the AIB cards are 4090 ti super. there is 10 to 15 % performance gain between the FE and AIB

Yeah totally agree. It’s cool they made it 2 slot for the sff capability but the 4080/4090 FE cooler is peak. I had a 4080 FE and it was just absolutely excellent. Whisper quiet and I loved the hybrid design where one fan pushed some heat out. The new 5090 seems like it turns most cases into a hotbox

I'm confident PC cases like the Lian Li O11 and its many clones can handle the heat generated by the 5090 FE.

Man, if those designs are good aesthetics I wanna see their ugly discard designs.

I don't understand why they don't make a cooler that can handle regular fans. Like their noctua edition. Just use that without noctua products.

I suppose they are maximizing profits by spending no money to design new shit. Just make it thicker, longer, give it more fans. I'm sure their production line just gets a few changes and out spits a new card.

Can either clone the drive onto the new one, or if you've been running for a long time then a fresh install is beneficial.

Fresh install loses all the bloat left behind from uninstalls, patches, updates etc.

"releasing"? If you can even call it that..

Where is our youtuber bros and their clickbait faces to heckle at nvidia?

Isnt this the best time to do their self-righteous attacks for bad consumer treatment. It cant get any bigger than Nvidia at this time.

PC fanbois have been cucked again.

Disgrace and you guys lap this shit up and jerk each other off with the fake frames.

What a disaster this generation of cards are.

PS ecosystem welcomes the traitors back with open arms.

Just for that very unfriendly comment, you are banned from all jerk off sessions with our fake frames. It has been decreed by a pc fan boi.

Well, managed to grab a RTX 5090 MSI Gaming Trio OC. At first my goal was to get a FE but since that was impossible to achieve I’m glad I got an AIB.

Never had a MSI Gaming Trio, I hope it’s above average quality, coming from an EVGA RTX 3080 I’m afraid there will be differences when it comes to build and components/pcb quality

I have a MSI Gaming X Trio 4090 and I've had no issues. Seems to be built very good.

I am from Germany and the price this list is showing, we only can dream about.

The truth is, we have to pay between 30 and 35 Euro-Cent per kWh.
Yep and that's still cheaper than SoCal from what I remember.
Sure the Euro exchange rate is more favorable to the USD compared to 10 years ago so to me this seems normal but that's without understanding what 35 Euro-Cents really means in context in Germany.

you are not getting a 5090 unless you got a review sample. Most stores barely received any stock. And with factories shutting down at least a week for chinese new year, dont' expect to see more stock soon. Nvidia rushed this out because they know you fanboys are too stupid anyways.

yeah, something tells me they had some of issue with the gddr7 supply or needed to satisfy enterprise / b h variants customer orders and it somehow affected the 5090 supply. that's why all you see are 5080 restocks.

That's the one I got too.
Saw a reddit post from some dude in poland who got the same card, and he said it had very good temps and no coil whine even at the 1000fps menus. Very promising.

This. I have a Crucial T705 Gen 5 SSD just above the GPU and I'm scared to see it melt if I get a wrong kinda of 5090 model. P600S as a case so might need to think different case with also a AIO model.

Got it done. I had to remove my GPU and do a bit of swapping around, but I now have a Western Digital 4TB and a 2TB m.2 speedy over 7000mb/s of storage.
Used Acronis true image software.
Now what to do with this leftover 1TB m.2. Maybe a cheap external drive enclosure.

I’ve had a 1350W PSU since 4090 dropped, not a concern were I to upgrade. That said, no surprise by the draw and dissipation.

Also, many of these cases are just downright ugly and look like generic tryhard “futuristic polygonal” military edgy design. I might go open chassis next…

I wasn't able to get a 5090. It's the first card I was unable to get at launch. Now that we know more features that are exclusive to the 5090 are being ported to the 4090 (driver level frame gem), I feel good about the outcome. *shrug*

did I miss something?

what 5090 exclusive stuff do they have outside of multi-frame gen and the smooth something that were talked about in the other thread ? ( I don't even know what it is or what does it do )

and what is being ported to 4000 series ?

5080 with a waterblock? but if i go custom i can also go with a 5070ti which should be better performance for the price ...
hmm, love the founders edition cooler but dont want the dumbed down version on the 5080, would love if AIBs would just copy the founders cooler and put it with liquid metal etc on the 5080.
Also, make it bigger. half a slot thiccer. no overlap, just full on blow through.

Do we have info if the 5080 has a 3d vapor chamber by now? havent heared any info on that.
