Rumble Roses developer comments on X360 and PS3

And it wasn't for the PS2? I seem to recall that less than five years ago that Sony did nothing but trumpet (rather loudly) that PS2 was this supercomputer-like hardware...'digital wind' and such.

Yes, you are right. However, the circumstance of that time was GAF was occupied by a large contingent of Sega fans.. not including the invasion.. :) Thus Sony fans had to be loud and vociferous defending (note I said defending not trumpeting) the PS2's hardware power advantage. This went on forever. What a hell of a time. Then came the TeamXBOX invasion and they were just as bad.

So one year of hardware superiority that wasn't really fun vs 4 years of Hardware superiority for the XBOX.. I'd take the 4 years easily. lol It was 18 months after the PS2 the XBOX was unquestionably more powerful. Even the gamecube is more powerful than the PS2. What was that? a little over a year after the PS2? So Sony fans haven't really been ahead with the hardware superiority crown.. only two short periods: vs Saturn and vs. Dreamcast. Trust me, it's not easy arguing with diehard Sega fans considering I was one once. The N64 was more powerful than the Playstation but at least you could tout storage as an advantage.

With this coming generation. Sure many of us are looking forward to having the most powerful system for an 'extended' period of time. Just in case some are wondering. Sony fans have never been the majority numerically at GAF. We're somewhere in the middle. So when I hear 'Sony-Age' it's kind of funny.

Damn the Xbox 360/PS3 battle is really starting to heat up.

Once X05 is here and X360 strikes back the conversations should get even more interesting. :)

Exactly. Like I said, it's too early to start talking real shit...too much ammo to be revealed.

And you really expect not to hear "wait for the superior Ps3 version" tossed around like crazy?

It'll happen. But by the time Madden 07 rolls around and both the PS3 and X360 look the same, people will pick up X360 and the game instead of PS3 because it'll be cheaper. :) With a superior online service to boot.

Well, maybe this won't happen and the x360 gets crushed. That wold just go to show you the power of Sony marketing over MS marketing.

Having said that, I think your traditional console developers from the west and Japan developers are going to have a huge leg up on next gen versus the PC developers trying to make transition to consoles.

Microsoft isn't going to get beat by Sony marketing. Those dollars will be spent, This mountain dew thing is just the tip of the iceberg. Now, I work for Ford Motor Company, they have a contract with Pepsi. At first, I had people giving me all their caps, now, you have the 50 year old lady in human resources putting in codes. This has been one of the greatest ad campaigns in recent times. Like I said, only the beginning

Either way, the phrase hasn't even started to be used yet and I'm already tired of it heh.

Time moves too slowly... come on November!

Seriously? That's amazing. I really should keep my eyes open and see if there's any change in Pepsi related sales.

Mrbob,
I agree, some PC developers were already complaining about next-gen console development. I can't wait 'till we get to the 2nd and 3rd waves of titles from console developers in the next generation from all three sides.

Yeah, but this a contest to give away systems for free. How many people who don't win will buy X360 at launch. You think the 50 year old lady in human resources will? ;)

MS isn't just going up against PLAYSTATION 3. They are also going up against 10 years of Playstation dominance with system that lets you know this by being backwards compatible with over 10 years of gaming.

Hope MS is prepared for the upcoming uphill battle because that cliff to climb is steep.

Well I'd assume that's why they wanted to get a running start. In order to make climbing that hill (:p) easier via the head start.

Just because something is given away for free doesn't mean people are obligated to try and win. Microsoft is more than a capable competitor. Why? Everybody knows they are loaded. That is not a mystery. My wife got some Microsoft shit from her school for 5 bucks the other day. I'm like, this is cheap as hell. Her response, they can afford it. Off the cuff, matter of factly. Backwards compatibility still gets me, I just can't go back to an older game like that. Ocarina of Time is still my favorite game of all time, but when I got the thing on the GC, I tried to do it again, I couldn't. Maybe to reminisce on a particular level or track, but I can't. Now, make no mistake about it, the PS3 will be a beast to deal with. I'm just saying that they'll be able to hold their own. It's up to the consumers then

If this is the case, why is MS currently facing an 80 million deficit -and growing- in the current generation? Why are they assfucking consumers with accessory prices for X360 if they have all this money to burn?

I'm buying Xbox 360 at launch (With just one extra controller until they drop these high accessory prices), but I don't believe they can compete with Sony until they prove it. I figure they will do a little better. Maybe get around 30-35 million worldwide install base. But I still expect PS3 to hit over 100 million again. MS may just need to be happy being the secondary, online oriented console.

IIRC cheap student software is a writeoff for MS. the 360 isnt. :D

It's not the fact that it's cheap, it's why people perceive it to be cheap. Most don't know that

Adding some fuel to the fire:
GameSpy: What do you think of Microsoft's chances this time in Japan? They did very badly last time, but this time they're being very aggressive.
Uchida: I personally like the idea of Microsoft trying to create this virtual arcade with Xbox Live, but when I look at the list of launch titles for December, there aren't too many strong ones that would allow me to say that the 360 is going to be extremely successful.

GameSpy: Going into next year the PS3 will come out. Do you think MS just won't be able to catch up in time, or is there more of an opportunity there?
Uchida: Actually at this point with all of the information that I've collected myself, it's going to be a tough fight for the PS3 as well. First of all, the console's very expensive. And the fact that most of the titles for these new consoles being sequels or reinterpretations of games that came out on the PS2 or Xbox... that's not really good. There wasn't much of an impact on games that we saw from the leap from the NES to the SNES, or then from the SNES to the first PlayStation. Those were very impactful. I don't think we'll see anything with that much impact. I personally think that both consoles will really struggle at launch. I don't think that there will be a big boom for either of them. Given that, maybe the fact that the 360 comes out first will really help for it to penetrate the market.
