Rumor: Birdie and Cammy for Street Fighter 5

Being a slave to that poll would be a horrible idea. I'm sure Capcom will take notice of some characters *coughKarincough* but they'll still be focusing on their locks, characters they think should be back (like Birdie) as well as making new characters.

Can't wait for the pre SF7 poll where Seth and El Fuerte are the top two requested because it's been ten years.

I really hope we never see El Fuete again in any game. I'd take him over Rufus but that's about it.

Since Seth left Capcom they can't use him in games anymore.
Yes I made that up but I want it to be true.

That might be. But even so, New Generation didn't get a retail release outside of the Dreamcast. 3rd Strike was a much better game and might have been recognized for it had it actually had a retail release.

And back to the 2D vs. 3D aspect of it, none of the EX games were good but they were all decent sellers.

Your right, true, SF3's failure to take off was by large the death of arcades and failure to get it out on consoles in a timely matter, correct me if I'm wrong, but the first console release was new generation and second impact bundled together nearly 3 years after release no? Yeah New Generation wasn't great, and the cast change wasn't the most favorable at the time, but that aspect is greatly over exaggerated when talking about SF3.

One unpopular character means Capcom gives no fucks about polls? Paying attention to polls doesn't necessarily mean they'll design the entire roster based around them.

I'm surpassed by all the Birdie hate.

To me, he was always one of the more stylish Alpha characters. And his background in Alpha 2 was awesome.

There are still ten characters left to reveal. And that's just for launch; there are probably 26 or so more characters coming to SFV between now and March 2017.

Honestly, as much as I have hopes for certain characters, and would love to see Blanka make it, there is going to be 16 characters with more coming after that, I'm content with whoever they add as long they reimagine them well, and they are interesting and fun to play. Even if Blanka doesn't make it, I'm sure I'll find another character that I'll enjoy playing.

I will agree that he would have fit well in SF4. I don't have any particular desire to play as him in 5 but I'm not really opposed to his inclusion if people want him. Karin and Adon plz though.

Yeah his moves and play style never seemed to mesh well with SF3's mechanics. If we get more grapplers, I hope they take some ideas from Alex. A grappler with some actual speed would be more appealing then the typical slow powerhouse.

My problem with SF3 was/is the roster. I thought it was completely lackluster and just didn't appeal to me. So many characters from SF2 were gone and replaced by characters that looked weird. I know it's got a lot of technicality to it, but ultimately that's not going to help it much when peoples' favorites are gone. I think if you put 3rd Strike's mechanics out there with a SF4 type of roster, it'd be heralded as the greatest fighter ever.

Birdie was probably a locked character way before the poll. Actually all characters could have been locked before the poll and the poll is about future dlc. I can't remember but I believe Nash was pretty up high in one of the polls. Cammy, too.

Birdie? Really? I didn't think any significant number of people liked him enough to prompt a return in SFV. Cammy doesn't surprise me though I figured Capcom would've used E3 to show off new characters, not returning ones. I think she (Biridie too) could use a redesign but putting pants on her (at least for the default costume) just feels WRONG.

Birdie is a cool reveal but they should've revealed Cammy later and a new character now. It's best to show something new instead of old and considering it's gonna be at Sony Press Conference(I'm pretty damn sure), a new character would made a bigger impact in the minds of fans and new players alike than just 2 old characters.

Okay I didn't realize they did a poll recently that Alex won, the last one I saw was the one from a few years back he came in like 23rd or so. No wonder everyone is replying to my posts like I am from mars.

With Karin at 3rd they better put her in.

Evo is right around the corner, maybe a new character there. Idk, seems like the hardcore players would be more receptive and a buzz about a new character then the casual crowd.

Yeah after the E3 reveals, Evo next month is definitely getting some reveals. I guess after that is most likely Gamescom(August) and then Tokyo Game Show(September). I'm thinking they might do 2 reveals each time probably so by Evo there will be 8 and by the end of TGS in September, 12. If 16 characters is true, 4 characters would be left after that if they did do it that way.

Birdie and Cammy eh?

I'm more or less happy with Birdie and am curious how he will look, even though he wouldn't be high on my wish list either. Cammy, like some other very overused characters such as Akuma, I definitely could do without to be honest, but I don't mind her inclusion too much either.

So who else have we seen hints for so far, even if highly vague or speculative? Let's sum up:
- Alex (as hinted at on an out of sight billboard in the Ultra SFIV version of the Half-pipe stage - he would be no. 1 on my list by the way)
- Oro (hinted at in a recent analysis video I think - would also be in my top 5)
- Blanka (also hinted at some point by Ono I believe, but I could be wrong)
- Fei Long (hinted at by the poster on the bus in the background of the Hong Kong stage, which would suit him of course)
- R. Mika (would be one of Ono's highest picks, so why not this time?)
- Karin / Sakura (both highly popular and Karin was one of the top picks in a poll if I remember correctly)
- Yun / Yang (possibly hinted at by the Hong Kong stage, especially by the similarities of the restaurant and its owner on the left side to their New Generation stage)
- Gill / Urien (going by the gem on Nash's forehead, possibly linking him to Gill's Illuminati)
- ?

My only concerns with SFV so far, especially after being blown away by the recent gameplay videos, is that it might have too few stages or no character-specific stages again (at bare minimum I'd like to see 3rd Strike's solution of offering alternative versions of stages for different characters), and more importantly that it might lack a strong unique identity if the roster - like in IV - would again be a quite random mix of veterans. Say what you will about III, but that subseries does have a very strong identity that makes it memorable to this day. Music, stage design and especially the characters are what contributed to that most heavily (apart from unique mechanics like parrying of course, which seems to be an area of the game that is covered in V). Imo we don't need Alpha 4 or SFII version X; we need a strong new iteration that brings some nostalgia but plenty of its own identity as well.

As such I'd like Capcom to hold back a bit on "safe" SFII and Alpha characters and add more new ones together with newer veterans like Juri. Bison already brings SFII's essence in spades, as does Nash for Alpha, so I hope they will only add a few more from those series and supplement them with fresh characters. Some SFIII veterans like Alex, Necro, Urien, Sean and Oro would count as positives to me since they haven't been featured so often yet.

This billboard was in the SFxT version of the stage first, and is simply an artist easter egg. It means nothing.

Deleting things is just about always indicative of accuracy... bad move.

IF Alex is in, he probably won't be revealed for a while. Or maybe Evo. He's carrying a lot of weight from his fans, so it would seem wasteful to throw him out there too soon.

Misread the title as "Birdo" for a split second and my feverish mind was reeling with visions of Nintendo nightmare synergy.

Not sure what your first sentence is referring to (and if it was directed at me at all since my edit only added stuff...) but I do agree with your second sentence. Alex might indeed be a character best revealed at Evo or similarly big tournament.

I think characters like Alex or Karin are a given considering their popularity in polls and I think that Capcom is just trying to keep from showing them too soon just to create hype. Alex imo would most likely to be revealed at Evo since that's where it's always hype lol. Well either him or Urien if I had to guess.

Well let's wait and see I'd say. Why would they put in such a random Easter egg if it could not be a sign at all?

I'm not saying he wont be in, I'm saying that the sign wasn't a hint at anything either way. Artists and level designers do that sort of thing all the time.

Not you, but the origin of this rumor. Generally the more accurate the quicker it gets pulled when it comes to things like this.

Birdie is also from England. :)

But surely Dudley is the more proper English gentleman? Especially that alt costume.

This shows the 0 fucks capcom gives about polls, Birdie was one of the last characters in that one. I wanted Sodom so much since he has been my main in all the alpha series but oh well...

They probably do, but like most good polls, its more suggestion.

Harada put this out there during X Street fighter when peeps were voting mika. There are characters, like mika, who no one actually wants wouldn't even play, and just voted for because they haven't seen in a while. They would look silly or weird, and get major redesigns to the point in which it isn't the character you want. So you kind of have to ignore those.

I don't think Karin is that, I think mika definitely is.

Birdie, on the other hand, is an enormous hulk who hits really hard and can take quite the beating. Although the giant is very immobile, he has an iron chain that gives him range that is not to be underestimated. That's why Birdie is way too strong in the current preview version. Capcom still needs to fine-tune the balance in that regard!

Pretty much.

Ugh, I can't believe Capcom chose [Obscure Character] and [Popular Character] over [Other Obscure Character] and [Other Popular Character].

Anybody that thinks the main character of 3s isn't going to be in the sequel or prequel of 3s is on some stuff.

I hope you're right. But there wasn't any SF3 character in SF4, including the home version which added some from Alpha. And even through all the revisions, we only have 7 of the 15 new SF3 characters in USF4, and none of them are Alex. :(

Alex is too popular and requested to not return I think.

Honestly there's no way my mains Balrog or Oni are making it to SF5 so I'm OK with whatever.

Wake me up when they announce Vulcano Rosso...

j/k I always liked Birdie, he may not be great but his moves are fun. I'm hoping Akuma makes the cut.

If you're doing a female wrestler for the game, just go all the way and make a new character. Mika's too goofy.

I still don't understand what's the big deal about Mika, why is she so popular? Before the internet I thought she was just a minor character of the Alpha cast, never saw people going crazy over her. Karin was definitely popular because she was Sakura's rival.

I'm down for Cammy as always. Birdie is a bit lame, I would've wanted Eagle instead. I'd take Eagle over any other British SF character, even Dudley.

Yeah, NG was released along with Second Impact for the DC, similar to how ports of 3rd Strike after the DC version in the West were bundled along with HSF2T in the Street Fighter Anniversary Collection.

Cuz of dem thighs and dat ass tackle.

Counting the characters from SF 1 to SF IV (excluding the EX series because it isn't canon), we have

4 from Hong Kong (Dan, Fei Long, Yang, & Yun),

They should at least have an Australian so they cover every continent. Maybe have it be someone who saw the big Ryu Vs. Sagat fight in that Australia stage and was inspired to take up martial arts.

I'd like to see

Egypt
African Dombe fighter
Arabian peninsula
Malaysian/Indonesian Silat fighter
Filipino Arnis/Eskrima fighter
The Nordic countries (Iceland, preferably)
Australia
Polynesia (A Limalama fighter from Samoa could be cool)
A couple South American fighters from countries other than Brazil.
Santamu, who happens to be Vietnamese.

Yeah...I think you can figure out how I feel about this.

I totally need Sodom as well.
