Rumor: Birdie and Cammy for Street Fighter 5

Crossover time for Smash?

Fuck yeah Birdie!

But PLEASE, some original characters!
The team knows how to make theme. Juri and Hakan are some of the strongest fighting game character designs I've seen.

I say Alex revealed at Evo plus a character tease, 2 more characters at TGS and a new stage (Japan). Who are the most popular characters in Japan?

Karin, R. Mika and Ingrid seem to be highly requested in Japan. So Karin, most likely, possibly revealed alongside Juri.

Of course Cammy is in. She is still one of the most popular character. Birdie is cool, too.

You mean they know how to copy JJBA ;)

I'm reading Stone Ocean at the moment. I can see why people say that.
JJBA isn't a bad place to get inspiration to be fair.

Is Hakan similar to a JoJo character too?

Another bottom-of-the-barrel Alpha pick for V's fighter roster is awfully disappointing if true. I wouldn't be surprised if Karin eventually gets included too at this point; the developers clearly have an interest in lame, uninspired characters.

I think he's a bad choice (Not because of what I posted earlier, it just seemed like the fanbase in general never cared about him) but if they put him in his character should be left intact.

Lol, what? He was only one of the most requested characters in SF4.

According to the 2013 Capcom popularity poll, he's one of the less popular character:
http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2013/...-fighter-favorite-characters-popularity-poll/

By the way, if the rumor is true, I'm kind of curious to see him back. And his presence basically confirms Boxer is out, and would also make Q redundant in the charge/grappler archetype.

Q and Alex play nothing alike outside of both having a dashing forward attack, and Q has 3 to alex's 1.

The character Alex negates is E.honda

I don't think anyone in SF plays like Q. Just this tall, strange, lumbering dude with awkward ass moves that look stupid as hell, but at the same time if he touches you with any one of them, its gonna hurt like hell.

Boxer is similar enough they basically gave him Q's overhead dash punch. While Q shares the low and straight.

Edit: As a package he is unique though

Cammy and Birdie reveal London stage - E3
Alex and Ken reveal - US stage - Gamescom
Karin reveal - Capcom Cup
Hagger and Maki reveal - Final Fight stage - Paris Event
2 New characters revealed - TGS
Vega and Balrog revealed - PSX
Urien revealed

There you go that's your 16 characters. But I expect we will atleast get 18-20 in the initial release.

We're probably not getting Balrog in vanilla if Birdie is in.

Not sure about Birdie. I always feel conflicted about Street Fighter characters with guns, battle suits, bombs, blades, etc, because I prefer to think of it as a martial arts tournament. Even Birdie's chains, Ibuki's kunai, etc, bother me a little.

Eisbahn is gonna be revealed at Gamescom along with Hugo and the obvious german stage.

I wonder if Eisbahn could be März, the Doll from Germany.

His command throws are his only moves that use the chains, though.

Still not as hyped for this as I'd be if it was on a system I already owned, but it's looking a lot better to me than the initial reveal. Watching Nash pull off some of those combos just looked FUN, and even fairly fresh, for Street Fighter.

And that's what actually has be looking forward to seeing Cammy and Birdie. *YES BOSS!... wait...*

Cammy's movement potential could be wild with this game's systems. I've always liked her, but Capcom kinda sucks at making her move and control the way I'd like. I get more of that from, say, Blue Mary. But that could all change now! And I'm sure she'll look great in this game's ever-improving art style.

Birdie I really have no love for. He could be great and unique here, and I hope he IS, but I just con't care about him in almost any way. I think I actually liked Sodom as a character more, and spent more time pretending to play him ok. But what kind of Re-design and re-tooling could he have here? If they're bold enough, he could basically be a fully new character.

It'll be nice to see some grapple-style characters in this games more expressive animation styling.

SF3 wasn't followed up on and didn't "take off" because it didn't sell well. That begs the question, why didn't it sell? Hint: It's not because of the roster, parries or the hip-hop soundtrack.

MvC2 faced all the problems of SFIII aside from roster. Was much more popular despite also not getting good sales.

I wonder how many characters they will have in the Beta. They should treat the Beta like an early arcade version and have as many characters they have until that point rather than a demo with 2 or 4 characters. The reason for this is that the community can help balance the game. Restrict the Beta to people who are pre ordering only.

But fireballs and electricity is ok? I don't understand.

But fireballs and electricity is ok? I don't understand.

Things like Fireballs or electricity are meant to be part of the fighter and their skills, an extention of the fighters themselves. It doesn't break suspension of disbelief getting hit with a fireball summoned out of thin air as it is all fantasy so the damage can be seen as fantasy levels.

Where as a weapon is a weapon. It is very real thing in the real world and seeing someone get chopped with a sword and not slicing them up is an instant break of suspension of disbelief.

Also bringing a weapon to a fist-fight is BS.

Despite being the main character in SF3, Alex always felt like he would work better under different systems, honestly he would have worked better in SF4 imo. Would be nice to see that chance, I'd play him.

Also didn't help that new generation wasn't very good.

Hating on Cody's knife? not cool. Speaking of which, I bet Cody would look great in this game, just not sure I would want him back again over new characters. But man, stabbing folks, zonking fools, and counter hits into Ultra 2 are so satisfying.

This shows the 0 fucks capcom gives about polls, Birdie was one of the last characters in that one. I wanted Sodom so much since he has been my main in all the alpha series but oh well...

Wow, didn't think people would start arguing about weapons in a game called "Street Fighter". Heck, even in SF1 the characters Eagle and Genki had weapons.

MvC2 had a limited print run but was highly demanded. It didn't hurt that it was the fourth game in the MvC franchise, and most of the prior games had been well received and decent sellers. All of them were ported to the PS1 and later PS2 for MvC2.

MvC2 had time and the opportunity to build an audience. SF3 didn't.

Also didn't help that new generation wasn't very good.

That might be. But even so, New Generation didn't get a retail release outside of the Dreamcast. 3rd Strike was a much better game and might have been recognized for it had it actually had a retail release.

And back to the 2D vs. 3D aspect of it, none of the EX games were good but they were all decent sellers.

One unpopular character means Capcom gives no fucks about polls? Paying attention to polls doesn't necessarily mean they'll design the entire roster based around them.

I'm surprised by all the Birdie hate.

To me, he was always one of the more stylish Alpha characters. And his background in Alpha 2 was awesome.

There are still ten characters left to reveal. And that's just for launch; there are probably 26 or so more characters coming to SFV between now and March 2017.

Was news to me, but I already retracted the statement when others mentioned that.

I will agree that he would have fit well in SF4. I don't have any particular desire to play as him in 5 but I'm not really opposed to his inclusion if people want him. Karin and Adon plz though.

I'm surpassed by all the Birdie hate.

Honestly out of the current announced characters if I was going to pick one to main it would be Birdie. Not a huge fan but he's not bad and the other characters aren't really interesting me.

Being a slave to that poll would be a horrible idea. I'm sure Capcom will take notice of some characters *coughKarincough* but they'll still be focusing on their locks, characters they think should be back (like Birdie) as well as making new characters.

Can't wait for the pre SF7 poll where Seth and El Fuerte are the top two requested because it's been ten years.
