Rumor: Quantum Break delayed to early 2016

They can try all they want, if it's on more than one platform it's not exclusive.

But again, I get what you guys are saying is and that's fine. I'll tailor my own definition of exclusive to the conversation. If, for example, Ori is exclusive then I'll consider stuff like Hotline Miami 2 exclusive too. Since it all basically comes down to not on X1 or not on PS4. Problem solved.

Despite owning a gaming PC I absolutely consider games like hotline maimi 2, and Ori exclusive. I would never buy these on PC, these are games meant to be played in a living room with a controller.

I would never play a 2D platformer on my PC monitor with a mouse and keyboard. There is a group of people that plug there PC into there TV and hook up a controller but I think that's how most people view PC gaming.

The fact that QB could be releasing on PC is irrelevant to me. I'll buy it on xbox and enjoy it on my TV. If it's some sort of crossbuy type thing then I can fuss around with the graphics on my PC.

For fuck's sake, we are really transitioning into the list-wars-what-is-reaaaally-an-exclusive debate instead of the actual topic of the thread?

Regarding, you know, Quantum Break -- there are, I think, two kinds of delays here: It can either be to polish up and flesh out the gameplay to keep it engaging, engrossing, and complementary to the game throughout its duration (Max Payne) or simply a content delay where the gameplay ends up falling completely short halfway through the game (Alan Wake).

I really, really hope we are looking at the former rather than the latter. This is Remedy's chance to come back from Alan Wake, IMO. And yes, I realize that's a somewhat unpopular opinion :p

That depends from what you think they are coming back. The game was great. It didn't sell well until its PC release, though.

The delay is not shocking.

Also I am getting the same vibe with this game that I got with The Order. All the preview footage/graphics looks great but every time I see gameplay I feel underwhelmed. I gave The Order the benefit of the doubt but I should have trusted my gut with it. I hope QB turns out better in the gameplay department because it looks like it could be a really good game.

Im going to be completely honest with you Dragonborn, you can consider whatever you like to be exclusive but really, you have to look at the circumstances of why a game is considered "exclusive" and the purpose it serves to the conversation.

Microsoft publish Ori, they own it, it will never be on Playstation unless Phil decides to go multiplat, its only on the platforms they - Microsoft, own (PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360), its really not difficult and it makes sense to describe it like that.

Hotline Miami 2 isn't on Xbox, but Sony don't own it, you could say its a console exclusive or whatever, I doubt you will get any resistance to that (Resistance is also a Sony exclusive franchise, fyi) although that doesn't specifically mean it can't or won't be on Xbox (I doubt theres a physical long-term reason except them not wanting to, but thats a whole different debate)

Pretty much what I was thinking too. You're better off comparing Ori and The Blind Forest to something like Helldivers or Resogun. We need a new thread of discussing the term "exclusive" and what it means to us.

Don't mind as long as they finish it probably and give me a solid game experience. Better than a rushed product. Developers should take their time to finish a game and not rush it. This year is full with blockbusters also. I'll be busy with Halo 5 , tomb raider and MGS, the division and Maybe uncharted also.Maybe there isn't a room for it.

Rumor or not I would be shocked if this releases in 2015. The TV show part and he implementation of it I would imagine is wrecking the development of this game.

I always see these comments "Remedy is being Remedy". But was there really any significant delays in their games other than Alan Wake?

Was Alan Wake even actually "delayed"? I got the impression they basically just scrapped it and started again. Now obviously there was a delay in release but pretty much starting again... it was one game.

Perhaps MS just said do they want the extra time as their line-up is packed.

Alan Wake was delayed several times due to Remedy wanting their own engine and that took them 5 years to complete.

This reminds me of Alan Wake, I waited forever for that, for-ev-er

When it finally released I loved the premise but hated the gameplay.

Hope the same does not happen here

What! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

...I mean, you might as well go ahead and change the definition of "delayed" as well, while you are it! :p

Internally this was meant to launch last year. Obviously Microsoft's schedule changed and it was moved but having a further delay surprises me.

To be clear, if this is true it will be the first official delay. Schedules always change before official announcements.

I will be very disappointed if true as this was the only real Xbox One exclusive game I am truly interested in to some level.

I may still pounce on a system if they do the crazy deals again like this Xmas.

To be honest, while the game has a appealing visual style, the actual mechanics didn't really grab me. Better deliver a good product then rush it out.

Agree. It looked like the protagonist was way overpowered and looked too easy and kinda boring. I hope they've delayed it to refine the mechanics and overall gameplay philosophy. Like the premise of it and looks beautiful so hopefully this delay will only be a good thing

Probably a good idea financially. I imagine the game would have ended up under performing during the very busy fall schedule we'll be having in 2015.

Instead aiming for early 2016 there's a much better chance of it being a surprise hit.

That'd be good and better than discussing it here. I don't want to derail the thread further.

But see, that's exactly what I mean. Look at how messy it gets with ifs and buts. If we took exclusive to mean what a should (aka one console) then there is no issue. Otherwise everyone has their own definition.

Hotline Miami 2 is, currently as much an exclusive as Ori (as are the multitude of PC/PS4 titles or stuff like Persona 5). If it's announced for Xbox the it's about as exclusive as CoD. I'm well aware MS owns the rights to Ori so in that sense I see what you're saying. I just disagree with the way it's used.

But as I said before, I'll go ahead and drop that because it's not what the thread is about

I thought they finished months ago?

I vaguely remember reading that they had finished filming when it was revealed that MS were abandoning their original content plans?

It was definitely scaled back.

IIRC it was talked about as a full blown TV show originally and now it's just some live action scenes between game chapters.

That reminds me that Alan Wake is almost 5 years old! I'm currently playing through it again, this time on PC for the first time, on Nightmare and disabled HUD, I love this game so much, and it looks so damn good on PC TT_TT

I wish they'd expand on that universe. I have no hopes for Alan Wake 2 now, but a new webseries that takes place in Bright Falls would already be great.

All I know is I'd prefer the industry to stop trying to come up with increasing (and technically incorrect) variations of "exclusive". I know its a combination of marketing and PR with trying to summarize a potentially complex situation (IP owned by X, hiting platforms A and B and never C) but I think the current approach is stupid.

I'd like to see a return to "available on" - i.e. this game is available on PC and XB1 or this game is available on PC, XB1 and PS4 and then note any IP ownage implications such as MS owns IP or Sony owns IP.

I'd hope GAF could avoid the PR bullshit and stick to IP ownage and platform availability for internal discussion.

On topic that's a bit of a shame if true. Still Remedy ain't the fastest and better to launch ready rather than not IMO.

I gotta agree with Dragonborn here. If a game is on one platform, don't call it "exclusive". Come up with some other term.

If you just want to say "Only on Microsoft platforms", or "Not on Playstation", then those would be accurate.

Also ... to get back on topic, isn't Quantum Break actually exclusive to the Xbox One? Or did I miss something?

...It's Greenberg.

I wouldn't read anything into that tweet regardless. We are all thinking about it significantly more than he ever did.

Someone should just post this anytime an anticipated game is delayed.

Shigeru and TomShoe are absolutely right. I'm ok with this if it's (REALLY) necessary.
