Rumor: Xbox 3 = 6-core CPU, 2GB of DDR3 Main RAM, 2 AMD GPUs w/ Unknown VRAM, At CES

It would be great having some sort of announcement at CES, though I don't think it will happen. There's e3 2012 to steal Nintendo's thunder.

CES is also my birthday. I want a surprise, Ms!

Everything is good if we get new consoles in 2012. I want new toys.

Microsoft has never unveiled a console at E3. I don't see them starting now.

I for one ant the next-gen finally to happen, I hate when multiplatform games look miles and miles better on PC. 2 GB RAM would be pretty ridiculous though...

Yeah, i`m more than ready for the new machines. Though 2 GB of RAM would be indeed very disappointing after a seven year lifespan. I agree.

Seriously doubt it's the name of the 720.

Makes so much more sense to be some kind of moniker for hybrid controls, both controller and Kinect...

2001 CES
2005 Pre Show Mtv (garbage )
... well maybe they have realized that "The third time's a charm"

i'm pretty sure they will use E3 2012 to unveil ( or at least to announce ) xbox next

It could be referenced as in: 'the next generation of xbox can run windows 8....'

essentially confirming its existance...

360's (live) features were teased at GDC before 360 was unveiled.

And don't forget the Our Colony ARG (where it was essentially first unveiled). I can see, and hope, that they do something similar.

That thing kicked ass.

From what I heard from a direct source(first time I have a source related to gaming xD). It's indeed going to be called the "720" and is slated for 2012. Didn't want to pry into technical details.

Patent is so generic it's pretty meaningless. Could be for 360 or nothing at all just another patent to throw on the pile.

Anyways, I just now realized the OP rumors reference CES. If Xb720 isn't at CES, doesn't it throw these "specs" into question?

Edge referenced to CES, this rumor said CES and Paul Thurott expected CES so it was being mentioned by 3 seperate sources. In any case I'm not sure in what form the nextgen Xbox will show up at CES. It could be as much as a teaser showing the box and specs, it could be AMD hyping up their deal with Microsoft with fancy tech-demo's or it could be Ballmer saying: "Yeah we have a new Xbox coming and it'll also run the Windows 8 kernel, more on that later this year."

Not to mention your boy Geoff and the folks at Spike were plugging CES like crazy for absolutely no reason.

So, no more talk about a possible dual strategy?

If MS puts DVR stuff into a powerfull console, the resulting hardware will be pretty big, no?

Anyway, it seems to me, MS has reached its goal seeing how enthusiastic the discussions are on their next console.

The console is supposed to come out in 2013 from what I know but I know nothing about its power.

Sony is probably weeping, as VITA took some of their development force away (and is getting bashed) and they may not be ready to launch PS4 for Christmas 2013.

I just hope MS doesn't fuck things, if not I can see them having a chance to take on Nintendo this time.

Well the next time he delivers a pizza to your place ask him for the technical details.

man I'm getting hyped!

If this thing is really going to hit this Fall wow
GAF explodes

As a general note, when this isn't announced at CES, I'm locking this thread and we can start a new one the next time we get a better quality rumor.

Well, technically I will be locking this even if it is announced since we will be talking about it in a new thread anyway.

Well, I'm sure no mention of it will come at CES, I'm just saying that kind of throws the specs in the title into question for me! Which is too bad because they're the most realistic alleged leaked specs we've gotten.

720 is a really awful name. I hope it's not named that. But also I probably won't be buying it since my gaming interests have dwindled immensely.
Still think 720 is lame. Xenon sounded cool. Something along those lines would be better.

If it doesn't happen at CES I am sure there will soon be a new E3 rumor. ;)

i think it's more probable they will announce at CES 2012 with 16core, 2 gpu and 16gb of ram as " available tomorrow worldwide " than next xbox will be ever called "720"

Yeah, two GPUs is about as realistic as you can get!

It won't be 720. It has just been the short hand name for it ever since the 360 was announced.

Codename rumors so far are Loop and Fusion from what I remember, but I doubt they will be called that when launching (sadly, since I'm growing to like Loop)

I like it too. it's charming somehow.

I get mixed feelings about next-gen.
On one hand, I want to be bluffed.
On the other hand, I just look forward for refinements over this gen. I can't see a new paradigm like SNES>PS and I'm good with it.
"Avatar quality" gaming makes me afraid.

Looking forward to details on this thing but I'm riding this gen out till the wheels fall off. I still have a huge ass backlog and 2012 isn't going to help it any. I'll jump in a year from launch once those launch technical probs have been hammered out and there's a decent line-up of software besides ports.

Thing is he's the dad of a friend of mine. Seemed like a rude thing to ask. He doesn't work for the gaming devision, but for MS as a whole. I understand this post doesn't hold a lot of weight, but wanted to offer some form of added credibility to the other reports.

Time will tell won't it? It's called the "Xbox 720" just to be clear.

It won't be called the 720. That number is associated with a screen resolution which is sub-par for most tech geeks.

And? Like I said above, those tech geeks would probably know the details about the hardware, so it's not really meaning anything to them.

And I know that Microsoft is really keeping their products/developments secret, even internally. To that extend that office colleagues do often not know what each person is working on. Not saying you or your source are lying or anything, but maybe he heard rumors and he is sharing that?

If you're right you can gloat and feel like a god, if you're wrong, everyone expected you to be...its a no loss scenario lol.
It was never a win and loss scenario. Just wanted to provide information(albeit minor) I heard at first hand. Whether you take away anything from it, is for you yourself to decide.

Yup, if anything is going to be teased (and that's as far as it'll go this year, teases and maybe some tech demos), GDC seems like a far more likely avenue than CES.

720 is more plausible to me than anything else. We will see (in 2013) :)

It would be a completely retarded name. So, it's a possibility.

I have contridactory info.
Also, I see no opportunity in releasing in 2012 for MS. Kinect was a success with casuals. Christmas 2012 is full of big hitters. Nintendo won't get powered-up ports next Christmas that could lure hardcore gamers.

As for a legitimate info coming out at CES, MS better keep it to subtle references or winks if it doesnt launch before Q2 2013. Long waits are not the rage these days. or they do have a new system that runs apps and stuff and acts as a companion to Windows and can sell at less than 150$ at launch (doubtfull but possible if they have dvr capability and good relationships with content providers ; it could also help stimulate the market for kinect apps before the next xbox comes up and kinect is fully deployed on Windows 8).

Not particularly. You'd really just need a little extra space for inputs. Possibly dual hard drives as well... though they're not exactly massive.

but the patent seems to imply DVR could run alongside gaming, I suppose adding components adds heat when they run and thus implies a better thermal insulation etc...

Anyway, last thing I remember that boasted such a feature was the PSX, so.

Totally agree. Halo 4 is coming next year, and there is simply no way that Microsoft will launch a new console alongside their biggest 360 game to date.

You really only need add tuner. On existing models that could be accomplished with a usb dongle. A QAM tuner and whatever is necessary to decrypt the signal isn't very power hungry in comparison to the hard drive and all the video processing which the xbox is already capable of.

for the xbox to really function like a DVR, they would need to find a way to bootup much quicker. set-top boxes are almost instant on. they would also need to find a way for it to record when "turned off".
