(RUMOR) Xbox One GPU reserve getting smaller soon, down from 10% to 2%

Isn't it speculated that the "video" is reserved for snap functionality? Will they be disabling this for games that utilize the extra power?

If this 8% is indeed part of the Snap reserve, I'd assume at this point MS is just saying "fuck it, let the user take the performance hit if they snap while playing." If that's the case, then I'd speculate they've got some numbers for people regularly using snap while playing games and found it to be an insignificant, inconsequential count.

Translation:

Infinity Ward asked for this in June

Yes, there was news that kinect was part of the reason why COD couldn't get to 1080p so that makes sense.

Anyway, as I said before this is good news. No point in making games that aren't "kinect only" suffer.

And in terms of "Snap", I only snap my Xbox Live activity feed which shouldn't take much power since it's a basic menu with text. So if they changed up snap, it probably wouldn't be removed completely. They would probably let devs decided on video snapping especially since that can kill immersion from heavy action packed games. I only use(d) snap TV for smaller games like Peggle 2 -- games which don't require your full attention.

I guess MP games could have it set up so that people can only snap video when in menus/lobbies. Don't know, but I personally feel that devs should decide if users should have that function of snap while playing their games.

Continues to boggle my mind that some people can't read Cboatese. Even a single quick sentence like that.

Anyway, this is good news. Rising tide lifts all games. (That's the saying, right?)

This doesn't like it would make much of a difference but I guess MS is now understanding just how deep they dug themselves. They don't have the first party studios to stand on, and now they don't have better looking third party games like last gen. Pretty bad position to be in.

GPU overheat.

Let alone the silicon might not even be able to reach higher clocks on a large scale. That's why PC overclockers order a couple of CPUs and GPUs to try and find the one which is able to maintain stability at a much higher clock.

How is it too risky? It's not like they would release such a software update with out putting it through it's paces before being released.

Which is what happened during development when the clock they shipped at was decided upon.

You don't just come out months later and go let's just bump up the clock speed as if it is just some inconsequential thing.

come on guys use common sense.

ms isn't going to do a clock bump. that would be suicide without mass testing for failure before the product reaches the consumer.

I just do not see MS keeping this GPU for 8 years when theyre already conceding that performance is an issue two months after release. That's assuming this rumor is true.

What exactly do you expect them to do? Issue a revision and then say, "Sorry early adopters, your Xbones aren't up to snuff, you need Xbox One Point Five. Time to rebuy!"

You need to snap to do party chat on the Xbox One?

For true?

No. It's just much (much) easier to turn party chat on via snap vs. having to go all the way back to the friends menu.

Party chat should be on by default either way though. Hopefully that will be coming in the update.

I wonder if this boost is going to help Xbone games to have a better resolution or framerate.

I wouldn't be surprised if Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is running at 720p on Xbone.

You need to snap to do party chat on the Xbox One?

For true?

here's how it works ->

party invite notification shows up on screen

say "Xbox accept"

snap window opens up and it shows the party menu.

say "Turn on party chat"

i guess you could press the home button and do it the long way.
