I hate onscreen buttons. Look at that thick black button bar. Compare it to a Galaxy Note 4 which has a small bezel with buttons, avoiding the need to waste half an inch of the screen.

Ugh.

If the price is right (349/400) I'll probably pick this up. But fuck onscreen buttons.

Only 3 more inches til phones match my e-penis.

Seriously though, at this rate of one-upping, I wouldn't be surprised if Apple's iPhone 9 reveal or something just adds phone functionality to an iPad mini and calls it a day.

If the next nexus is indeed a 6 inch phone then it is really disappointing. Nexus 5 has the best form factor that I have seen. Google just give me 805 snapdragon, 3000mA battery, 3GB ram, 1440p in nexus 5 rehashed or something, and I'll happily pay 400$ for that.
Also Moto logo looks hideous
I share the sentiment. Except I would prefer a 1080p screen and an even slimmer bezel.

Google needs this why?

To not understand Samsung and the growing Tizen threat from Google's perspective is to not understand the future of Android and why Google is getting more aggressive about its mobile strategy and the moves it has been making to protect their footprint on Android and ensure that Google apps are present on those devices.

Tizen is a threat? I'd have to disagree with that notion. what uses Tizen besides the failed gear?

I don't understand why some people like onscreen buttons, why take up room on the screen? It would seriously bug the hell out of me in many apps on Nexus devices. I know that some apps make the buttons disappear, but many don't.

the back button is annoying when holding the s3 in landscape because it's very easy to accidently press.

in portrait, they're somewhat uncomfortably low for my thumb to reach to.

Is it just me or is z3c not really compact. looking at the pic above its just slightly shorter than nexus 5 with the same width.

You need to take every competitor seriously in the mobile industry since it moves so quickly. 1 device running Tizen this year could turn into 10 next year. Look at how quickly android exploded.

Tizen depends on Samsung software. No real threat.

i just dont see this happening anymore. it's like osx and windows now. android exploded because ios was locked down and manufacturers needed a clear market leader.

i think windows phone has a good chance to grow with windows 10 since apps will be useable across all windows devices. but the mobile OS market is only going to have windows, android, and iOS as the major players for the next 10 years. i'd bank on it.

also, on top of all this. samsung just does not seem to know how to make appealing software.

If Samsung moves their devices to Tizen, which they have threatened to before - a substantial amount of the Android base is now Tizen. Samsung ships SUBSTANTIALLY more Android devices than anyone else and they have the strongest brand in Android. THAT has always been the threat. Samsung being the largest OEM for Android with no near peers has always been a concern of Google.

5 inches is the sweet spot for me.

Much larger than that and it's too unwieldy, much smaller and there's not enough screen real-estate.

Did they seriously tape the name “Shamu” (The Whale) on the back of the 6” phone?

Like, is that an internal codename for this thing. (link said the term was rumoured to have been used before)
All nexus devices are codenamed after some sort of fish. My n4 for example is called mako, my old galaxy nexus was maguro etc. Shamu is obv an in joke about its size :)

Why does this nexus looks so ugly. Are there only 3 company in world who know how to design a good looking phone

Only Western markets are mature, the rest of the world is still up for grabs.

Google has had a lot of trouble in China, the Play Store is basically non factor. Most of the phones are running a forked version of Android and carriers and manufacturers each have their own app stores. That is only one example. I am sure in many other developing countries the situation is similar. It is not out of the question that Firefox OS and Tizen could gain ground in these markets.

Google needs to get all of the "western" OEMS in line if they want to compete in these markets (I include Taiwanese and Korean in my definition)

Lol at Tizen being a threat. That OS is so bad that it is already dead before its arrival. I pity for someone who had to endure that shit on gear watches. Samsung is already having issues with their Galaxy S lineup, and it would be better if they try to change things a bit rather than mocking apple or pushing bloatware like Tizen.

Google has a solid plan for developing countries in Asia. It's called Android one. They have partnered with regional mobile companies to make pure android devices with timely updates. Also you are being delusional if you think FireOS and Tizen could even survive in the market, making a dent would be a dream.

I like them because they are customizable, if that's even a word. At least on the G3 you can make them disappear in any app you want and you can change the navigation bar to have any button you like (and up to 5 of them if I remember correctly) without rooting. For an example I have the back button, the home button and the multitasking button. My friend who is coming from a S2 has the multitasking button on the left and the back button on the right.

And it gets better if you root, then you can remove them entirely and use PIE controls, change the height of the navigation bar and even have other icons and color.

I cannot believe human beings in 2014 still believe this shit.

Because all those millions and millions and millions of Galaxy phone owners going back 6 years or so will be totally okay with losing every song, movie, book, game, application and wearable functionality if Samsung suddenly changed the ENTIRE OS on their phones out of fucking nowhere.

No Chrome, no Gmail, no Google Maps, no Google Drive, Youtube apps.... All of their banking, billpay and calendar apps, all of their podcast/music and more just vanishes like a fart in the wind because Tizens OS cannot use Google Play store and thus has ZERO access to any of the stuff people buy Samsung phones to use.

The customers aren't going to mind that at all......

lol.

Thank you for notifying me of that's existence. A decent camera, battery life and reasonable form factor are 100% what my wife is looking for in a phone! ^_^
Glad I could be of help.

Cannot wait for what Google has in store for us. My Moto G is in a precarious state right now.

benefit is that the buttons can disappear for fullscreen-ness, thus no wastage at all in reality and the other advantage is that the buttons are higher up the phone and thus easier to reach than the horrible arrangement samsung has where theyre too long and the buttons do the wrong thing.

As someone with a G3. I wouldn't mind a 6" phone if it has thin bezels. I've had a 4.7", Nexus 5, and now a G3 and the G3 is easily my favorite build.

Because it allows for the biggest screen possible for a form factor.
