The Russian military has destroyed numerous oil facilities and tankers controlled by the Islamic State group in Syria, sharply cutting its income, Russia's defense minister said Friday.

Sergei Shoigu reported to President Vladimir Putin Friday that Russian warplanes destroyed 15 oil refining and storage facilities in Syria and 525 trucks carrying oil during this week's bombing blitz. He said this deprived the IS of $1.5 million in daily income from oil sales.

Putin hailed the military's performance, but added that "there is still a lot of work to do ... to rid Syria of militants and terrorists and protect Russia from possible terror attacks." Putin has ruled out Russian ground action in Syria, a position reaffirmed Friday by his spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

Yes, even world renowned tough guy Putin is not interested in putting soldiers on the ground. That should really tell you something and he has a clear ally to back in the region, we've got Kurds and rag tag "moderates."

There's always an ulterior motive. I'm surprised they haven't just carpet bombed entire areas given their history.

He's not interested in putting troops on the ground because he has no need to, the Iranians are the ones doing that with their foreign legion and army advisors. Thought that's the whole point of the so called Assad-Iran-Russia alliance the media has been trying to sell.
