-=-=->S P O I L E R S<-=-=- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Spoiler Thread

aesthetic wise, it's kinda bland for the most part but it's design is actually very interesting with how you control the elephant's trunk.

I like the exterior aesthetic, some of the lighting and blocks have a certain appeal.

Interior it's uninteresting looking, but I like the actual mechanic of the dungeon too.

I don't really care about the dungeon itself but the Devine Beasts have shades of the Giants from MM. It's like Giants + Sages = BOTW.

That's actually a perfect comparison.

I'd honestly say there's quite a few shades of Majora's Mask in this game though. You can definitely see its fingerprints in various faucets. The game is kind of pulling from every Zelda game in some way, but I honestly think Majora's Mask fingerprints are the strongest.

Dungeons suck, worst Zelda ever, bring back Skyward Sword

Mmm I disagree, Majoras Mask had a very... what's the word. Transliteral? Ever mask had a metaphorical sort of idea behind it which then literally made you become what mask you were wearing. So far none of that happens in the game and we haven't heard of any masks yet.

I don't know what's further on in the game though, so we'll have to wait and see. I believe this is the first Zelda game with a real actual nod
fierce deity
from Majoras Mask even if it is a superfical one.

Might be a weird request, but I'm mostly avoiding spoilers about the game with one exception:

If anyone feels like it, can they PM me just about any detail involving Link's Awakening Easter eggs and stuff? I've heard through the grapevine that that island on the map that totally looks like Koholint is a goldmine of LA stuff or something and I simply must know.

Thank you.

0:28 you can see the offending island

You can look on the map and see it is the same one with a very similar shape and topography. This is all we know... so far.

Hmm. Link can't get into the Gerudo city because men are forbidden. Looks like he's going to have FF7 Wall Market quest it up. Guess that's where the female harem outfit comes into play.

So there is a funny part I saw on the streaming, regarding getting around with the gerudo tribe...

Basically, no man can enter the city, and you have to crossdress as a woman. This is hinted by a guy that is already crossdressing as a woman around the gerudo settlement. Once you change your clothes, wind flows, lifts the veil of the man and shows the beard.

It looks like you need to be careful of wind to infiltrate the gerudo city.

I guess it really says something about the voice acting that everyone, both here and in the spoiler free thread, are struggling to tell Mipha and Zelda apart lol

I guess it's a spoiler to correct someone's misassumption but it's killing meee lmao

So the location of the Hylian Shield and Master Sword has been found, kinda bummed that the Hylian Shield is hidden in Hyrule Castle and that the Master Sword has a stupid requirement of hearts.

Do we know how many hearts the player needs to wield the blade?

Also has the location of Epona and the green tunic been found?

You can dye the green hat, tunic, and shorts, so maybe pretty early perhaps. It seems the "Champion" tunic might be the late-game story related tunic, since there's no color variations.

I kinda prefer Twilight Princess one over the Breath of the Wild one as Breath of the Wild one looks like a children's clothes.

Has this been posted yet?

Cool, can someone point out where the lost wood is on the map, I want to make a note of it for when I decide to go after the Master Sword.

From a treasure chest in Hyrule Castle.

Honestly, it might be worth storming in there just to grab some powerful gear, and then leaving to proceed with the story with a slightly upper hand.

I don't like entering dungeons and then leaving, buuuut in concept of the Breath of the Wild story I could make it work.

You can't cheese the Master Sword with food that gives you extra hearts. It only counts the red ones.

Kinda lame as Nintendo was touting how "open" this game was but yet applied a requirement to wield the sword, hopefully the heart requirement isn't that high as the lowest amount of heart to wield the Master Sword in past Zelda games was 6, 3 if you're doing a 3 heart run.

It's a good thing Mario kart isn't out till the end of April so much to do in this. How hard is it to get the shield from hyrule castle?

Depends on how deep it is in Hyrule Castle, hopefully not that deep as I plan to head there when I start the game...will have to be stealthy for the most part and then bail out once I get the shield or save the game and then die as I don't think the game takes items away from you if you die.

Also I am correct in assuming that the Hylian Shield is unbreakable?

not really a good explanation because must not cover foot like that but it seems to be a bad sand texture

Yeah, I thought it was solid ground so it never occurred to me to think it was sand.

Oh yeah, and I was right about the camel divine beast being electricity-themed :D

People were assuming it was earth-themed because it's in the desert, but I started thinking it would be electricity-themed because this shot of the inside of a divine beast from the last trailer shows electricity puzzles:

That sheikah text was a pain in the ass to translate.

And this scene shows the Gerudo Chief with an instrument that has lightning bolts on it:

But why camels and electricity? The other beasts make sense, birds are associated with wind, salamanders with fire, elephants with water.

I found this book about Hebrew mythology that mentions that Arabs associated thunder and lightning with camels:

"according to the Arabian philologist al-Tebrizi a cloud accompanied by thunder and lightning is called al-hannana 'the bellowing,' because the ancient Arabs compared a thundering cloud to a camel that breaks out into loud bellowing from a painful desire to reach home."

I'm not reading anything in there, but I just wanted to say that I LOVE the Gerudo city theme. Can't wait to find it in game to hear it properly. Beautiful.

Oh, looks like the dungeons have more secrets inside of them then if you just accomplish the main task, but you can't reenter it after you've uncorrupted the control unit.

i was genuinely curious if people here liked it, seems pretty obvious that the press is really into it.
interested to see how the general public reacts.

I think the poster you're responding to was being a tad sarcastic. People who are playing the game seem to like it, it's just that the early part of the game (the plateau) is a drag because we've seen so much already and you're not given a lot of abilities, strong armor/weapons or people to interact with until you leave. Much more exciting after that.

Oh my god, this guy is getting frustrated at this ball puzzle. XD;

AFTER LOSING SO MANY TIMES, THE GAME GAVE HIM A PITY WIN.

I was doing the same trial yesterday and its sooooooo bad to control. After the 10th try i realized tha i can just flip the whole plattform on his head and suprisingly with no bars i did it on my 2nd try :D

So there's a heart restriction on the Master Sword? So you need to complete enough Shrines to get enough Heart Containers to be able to wield it? Strange.

In Zelda 1 you needed 5 hearts to get the white sword and 12 to get the magic sword. It's not entirely out of left field. Especially since this game is referencing Zelda 1 heavily.

Someone saw someone get killed on the stream by trying to pull the sword without enough hearts. I wonder if it actually just requires a number of hearts to able to be "strong" enough to pull it? Like it damages you as you pull it but if you have enough hearts you can survive?
