-=-=->S P O I L E R S<-=-=- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Spoiler Thread

Do we know this yet:

1) Number of Koroks to find? (is it 900 like that guide leak said?)
2) Number of Shrines? (same, is it 120 confirmed?)
3) Can Shrines be played over again after you've beaten them? (like challenges reset?)
1) 900 indeed.
2) 120 indeed.
3) You can play them again, but usually the challenges won't reset.

Thanks! Wow... 900! I've seen probably a dozen from streamers and I like the variety.

The guides must be insanely long and detailed. :-|

From Austin Walker's piece on Waypoint:

My curiosity was rewarded—as soon as I reached the peak and saw what was there, I realized that the shape of that pond sounded familiar to me because a dozen hours earlier, in a town on the other side of Hyrule, another character mentioned her desire to come to this exact place. And now there were two people here, staring at each other from across the water, and it was my job to… well, I'm trying to avoid spoilers.

Sounds like that's the marriage thing.

A bit disapointed with how extremely simple the story is in this game. It basically has no dept and all the plot is revealed by the king when he reveals who he is.

That's kinda disappointing to hear.

Guess this game won't be overtaking Majora's Mask, my favorite Zelda game any time soon.

Best art yet!

Quick, simple, question: How long is the day/night cycle in here? Is it still the classic: 1 game hour = 1 real world minute, system? How long does a single in-game 24 hour cycle last in real-world time?

Since theres no official thread yet....

Im stucm about an hour or two in :( ive unlocked all the shrines required in the great plateu except the one to the far left in the cold mountain region.

Now i need to make some food so i dont die from the cold using chilli plants raw meat and another un known ingredient..

How fucking hard is it to get raw meat? I have been trying to hunt boar for about an hour. And ive seen 3. Each one ive hit with my bow and arrows once and theyve ran off before i can get a 2nd shot off. I see so few of them in going to run out of arrows.. and my fear is if i even do kill one for raw meat.. i have to guess the third ingredient for the potion? :(

Hints on meat locations and the third item please.

Look for smoke, you'll find the old man in a hunting spot. And aim for the head of the boars to kill them in one shot.

The last ingredient is a bit fishy, but you'll find it eventually.

Thanks!
How many shrines is that?
( 13 - 3 ) * 4 = 40 shrines.

So what is the twist in this game?
The old man is the king who's been death these 100 years. Zelda trapped Calamity Ganon in the castle all this time, mostly. Hyrule as a kingdom doesn't exist at this point in time. Link was one of Zelda's champions, and is the only one not dead. Ganon may have been experimented on by evil Shieka?
Urbosa is bae
.

There's no real twist, I guess. Most indications point to latest chronological game in downfall timeline.

Thanks! I realised the magic here though and just... loaded up on mushrooms and apples and just walked through the cold eating them to replenish health lol

Tbh I thought this was the twist. I was under the assumption that this game was about getting the characters together like orcarina of time's Sage arc rather than them all being DEAD from the start.

Trapped inside the castle fighting Ganon for the last 100 years.

This doesn't make sense. She would be dead, would she not? All of the scenes we have seen her in are flashbacks/memories, are they not?

Ganon is amazing. Especially because (ending spoilers)
by the end of the game you learn that Ganon no longer has any desire to reincarnate, all he wants to do at this point in the timeline is fuck up and kill Link.

I don't think that's what Zelda means. If you scan Ganon in the earlier fight you find out that that form is an incomplete physical form that he was in the process of reincarnating into when Link interrupted him. After Link wrecks his shit, Ganon abandons the reincarnation and comes at Link full power. They're not saying he won't or can't try again in the future.

Reincarnate = become flesh and blood again. Ganon abandoned the incomplete physical form to attack Link as an energy monster.

In the very last game she spent 1,000 years sealing Demise. This Zelda only had to do it for 100 years. Why are you not getting this?

There are a few ways to get by the first cold section that I know of:

1. Bring a torch. There are enemy camps along the way with fires that you can use as pit stops. Also, most wooden weapons can improvise as a torch.

2. Cook food or make potions with cold resist.

3. Figure out the old man's recipe to get a warm doublet. The third secret ingredient is
hyrule bass. They can be found in ponds near the tower.

She was the one who cast the spell sealing her and Ganon inside the castle, this can be seen in a flashback.
But she is the one speaking to the player since the beginning of the game. She's not dead.

So really, the true villain of BotW is Link, because without him, we might have gotten some beautiful BotW Ganondorf hair. Or Ganonspider hair. Or luxurious piggie Ganon hair.

Link, you bastard.

(The BotW Gerudo designs are so amazing, I'm so bitttterr, even though the BotW Ganon subplot is actually kinda cool. Sigh.)

I actually really dig Ganon's design in BotW. It really helps sell the idea that he's been around for thousands of years.

I kinda like the idea that maybe the Yiga Clan was trying to resurrect him as a cyborg. He came from below Hyrule Castle, and when you fight him you fall into a chamber deep below the castle that is labeled a LABORATORY:

Gotcha. That explains some of it. Does it tell you what Zelda was doing during those 100 years? Some people are saying she was fighting Ganon that whole time, but now people are saying he was being experimented on by the Shiekah in the Lab. Does it offer any details of what she was actually doing? That's the part I don't understand.

Kinda want to get the guide if only as a collectors thing since mainline Zelda doesn't come around often :/

900 Korok seeds sounds...boring, but oh well.

Ganon attacked 100 years ago while Zelda was trying to unlock her goddess powers. She got them too late to save everyone, so she faced Ganon alone and sealed him with them. She's been inside Ganon this whole time, keeping him sealed inside a giant beating heart. She comes out of Ganon at the very end.

If the Shiekah were experimenting on Ganon they did it before 100 years ago.

The Shiekah experiments theoretically happen before the Calamity Ganon rises from beneath Hyrule castle. Zelda contains it and enters stasis as she is wont to do.

It seemed like around one hour for a full day, but I wasn't paying full attention when I was watching streams. FWIW, you can rest at an inn and choose to wake up at morning, noon, or night.

Well, I definitely thought I clicked the review thread. Saw a few light spoilers.

Whoops!

Hope everyone is enjoying the game! Can't wait to get hold of it tomorrow.

Why is everyone speculating whether Purah is a Kokiri? Her diary mentions she's young because her experiments on an anti-aging Rune went wrong (which gave me a good cackle lmao)
