That being said I am glad that Luna does not think that Ami is a monster this go around. Also, hello Yuri goggles.

That was fun. My subs on Crunchyroll failed to kick in but this was easy enough to follow along without them.
There were some occasional inconsistencies in the animation where the faces went off-model but they were isolated and sporadic and it's not like the original series didn't have bouts of this as well.

I thought it was cute how Usagi started throwing out the Ami-chans immediately while Ami held steadfast to the formal Tsukino-san until the end of the ep.
I'm assuming that was how it was originally done as well but it's been so long since I've watched the original series subbed that I can't say for certain.

Episode was ok. I kinda felt the art was a lot less consistent this episode compared to the first, but the backgrounds were better. Although I thought Ami's transformation would be longer I didn't mind it. I actually kinda liked the cg water effect.

Note this is watching on my laptop though. Watching on a big tv screen I think you notice imperfections even more. I know after I watched the first episode on my tv after watching it on my laptop I felt the art and wasn't as good as I thought.

The animation is just Ok. It gets the job done, but could be a lot better.

You can already see some minor differences in terms of the story, and it's moving along faster than the old show. Less comedy and maybe a bit more serious in tone, it's still good.

The Sailor V Game is still right out of 1993.

Maybe it's one of those pseudo retro titles that are popular nowadays :x

About this episode, it was much better than the first one, especially pacing. The art (faces) was weird at times and the CGI water during Ami's transformation was bad. I miss the comedy and over-the-top reactions. :(

Sailor Moon is still as useless as before, though. Her main weapon against the youma was crying loudly. And then she had to be rescued by both Sailor Mercury - a newbie who've just received her powers and yet was more competent - and Tuxedo Mask. :|

Sailor Moon Crystal Episode 2:

Right, once again a fairly competent episode all things considered, the animation is always going to look somewhat stiff and rushed, this is a TOEI production after all. Anyway, I am surprised how close Sailor Moon Episode 8 stuck to source material, well, up to the point where Luna thought Ami was an enemy agent. Anyway, I didn't think it was possible but somehow Ami got meeker, though I did enjoy the bonding Usagi and Ami did over the course of the episode. It is also nice that I didn't have to wait 7 god damned episode for this to happen.

I enjoyed this episode. The character designs look a lot better in the anime than in the stills released before hand. Loving Mercury's design.

I also enjoyed the CGI water and I honestly don't mind the CGI transformations in general.

Tuxedo Mask for once, did something more than "Do your thing Sailor Moon" by
jumping in to save her from the claw lol
. He also got more suspicious
with the whole "Your cat just talked didn't it?"
so I'm guessing he finds out soon enough who Sailor Moon is soon.

Also like it's been said, it's nice that Luna didn't automatically think Ami was evil.

Looking forward to the next episode now, Rei/Mars time!

Mercury Aqua Mist is still lame as all hell.

At least it's not Shabon Spray any more!

Ami's henshin sequence is freaking me out a little. As if this anime wasn't a verbatim enough remake already, it is almost an exact clone of her original one...

Just wait until the next episode.

Ami actually being affected by the disc was not in the manga, as she avoided using it because it gave her headaches.

The whole fight was done somewhat differently as Ami's transformation is never shown, but rather, Sailor Moon and the youma feel the effects of Aqua Mist yet Sailor Moon doesn't see Mercury until the very end of the chapter and that's where it ends. I was actually wondering how they were going to handle that.

One thing they didn't do that was in the manga: Sailor Moon high kicking the youma while being held at the arms by Tuxedo Mask. They also didn't do the seminar using Ami's image as a marketing tool on the flyer, although it was alluded to elsewhere.

I never noticed when watching the original anime, but did the series always take place in Azabu-juban? Pretty good second episode, never read the manga so I don't know how accurate it was to the story, but the location design (used to work there) I felt was spot on.

Best girl arrives!

Noticed the nods to the original show as well with the transformations.

One thing I kinda miss from the original show were the (later to be recycled) attack animations but oh well. It's not like they were in the manga anyway.
