Sailor Moon Crystal |OT| In the name of the manga, I'll entertain you!

I never noticed when watching the original anime, but did the series always take place in Azabu-juban? Pretty good second episode, never read the manga so I don't know how accurate it was to the story, but the location design (used to work there) I felt was spot on.

Yeah.

Enjoyed the second episode, like the more serious tone and the speed at which the version is going. Also like how they don't think Ami is possibly a monster which was the dumbest thing ever in the original.

Sailor Moon Crystal 2

I sure do remember differences between mediums of Sailor Moon.

I do think how the next episode will end could be important to how this plays out, granted it could be a ruse instead. Anyway, I can see where Ami looks more meek here, and it's a bit more expressive in this episode as well. Music is still eugh though, and Mercury's transformation just.... didn't feel right.

The whole fight was done somewhat differently as Ami's transformation is never shown, but rather, Sailor Moon and the youma feel the effects of Aqua Mist yet Sailor Moon doesn't see Mercury until the very end of the chapter and that's where it ends. I was actually wondering how they were going to handle that.

One thing they didn't do that was in the manga: Sailor Moon high kicking the youma while being held at the arms by Tuxedo Mask. They also didn't do the seminar using Ami's image as a marketing tool on the flyer, although it was alluded to elsewhere.

Yeah, I didn't like the change to the fight. She was just supposed to be lost in the mist. Instead we get him bailing her out and no Sailor Moon Kick.

Also don't care for the speeches. That's obviously pandering to the original anime crowd.

I'm surprised at how much padding they were able to do though. I guess the first chapter had more to put on the screen.

Really liked the episode, although one thing that got me all upset that I was hoping for.

Not sure how manga discussion goes here so I will put the following in spoiler text:

How dare they not put in the strongest move in the entire series the Sailor Moon Kick into this episode! I AM OUTRAGED!

Really enjoyed this episode, felt it was a lot more charming than the first. Also beats out the glacial pacing of the first anime, from what I've watched of it.

That was.. an ugly episode. The quality was all over the place, and I feel that there wasn't a lot of tension -- at least not as much as the original airing!

Anyone remember Ami dodging a guillotine slice in the original? Or having her face crammed against the monitor? That was tense stuff! In this, she's very passive as a bystander and it kind of sucks. Plus being so ugly sometimes was really distracting.

Full OP song.
Contains spoilers and I can't honestly tell if they just animated some scenes for MV ahead of time or if the show is actually done.
Moon Pride Music Video

SPOILERS to near the end of the season

Oh, yeah, I forgot that was getting released today. Now I'm all hyped, but there won't be any more episodes to watch until next month! :(

Anyway, I liked Act 2. I wish this was a weekly series, though. Heh.

Can't believe I never noticed this, but Usagi's supposed to use her hair pins like darts here :\

I'm glad they ditched the watercolor backgrounds from episode 1. The regular ones they use in this episode look a lot better, they just looked "unfinished" previously.

Felt lukewarm about episode 2. Mercury has somehow become even more meek, and the art style is still a mess, they aren't even consistent with their backgrounds FFS

But I won't lie, I am VERY excited for the intro of my fave senshi, the raven haired beauty and red hot tempered Sailor Mars in the next ep!!!

Man I hope they do Mars justice, this will be the make-or-break moment of Sailor Moon Crystal for me

Yeah me too! They better do this well. :T
But I have my doubts. I feel like they screwed Mercury over for her intro episode.

As mentioned before, I have been watching the original series in tandem with the new one and I have to say that the rose tinted glasses must be strong with this one. Fuck the haters. The new show is amazing!

This episode was pretty faithful to the manga and the pacing and tone is much better than the original series. The opening and ending songs are starting to grow on me. Still not a fan of the CG transformations but Mercury's didn't seem as bad. The backgrounds are much better than the orignal. Most of the backgrounds in the original are unfinished and terrible. This is really great for fans of the manga. Maybe not so much for fans or the original show, but I'm loving it.

10/10

Ya know, I'm about fine with where we're are with this; sure there's a few bits that will probably be redone for the home video release but this is a lot more expressive than the first episode and is filling around the edges of the manga's story (That said, Tux didn't need to show up at the cort of the Moon Kick, ah well, life is life).

Going Strong here.

Here's to Jedite going through Plane-to-the-face 2k14 same bat time, same bat channel.

I prefer the original over this, it kinda feels like something is missing in the newer version.

Same Sailor Mars was my first animé crush.

You maybe in for a shock next episode.

I thought CG Moon Prism Power was bad, but CG Mercury Power Makeup is just disgusting.

Yaknow, I'm not seeing it. No, really, Not seeing what's so utterly wrong with the CG.

Water, among all the "elements" you could portray using CG, is probably the most difficult to get right. Instead of looking like water, it looks like Mercury is clothing herself in jello, or glitter glue.

Or Axe body wash.

No one (I think) would hold the first season of Sailor Moon, let alone the first few episodes of the series, up an example of really well produced anime. Because they aren't. That first season is cheap and rough in a number of places but as time goes by the show looks better and better until it looks great consistently.

I suspect they changed it to a Tuxedo Mask Rescue in order to have him actually do something other than be a creeper cheerleader.

It's nice they're being faithful to the old transformations, but my hope is that if this goes past the original story arc that they don't get cheap and reuse them like they did in the original series. That was seriously the dumbest part of the original series for me.

I think it'll take me a few more episodes to get used to how horribly drawn nearly every scene in this anime is.

I wonder what direction they'll choose to take Sailor Mars's character in this version of the story. Out of all of the character introduction episodes, this is most likely going to be the most important.

This is more to the dub, but Cherami Lee is down in Australia, she's the new Venus. She used her Venus voice last night, it was quite high pitched, but notably, British.

She also went in a bit about how the dub was done, 6 page long NDA, and she recorded her audition in her car an hour before the audition was due, because she thought it was a spoof. She found out she got the role on the way to her wedding rehearsal, but of course, was NDA'd until Anime Expo

I'm generally warming up to it and although there were moments that didn't appeal to me, I never felt irritated during this episode, which happened quite often during the first one.

I'm never going to start liking the Moon transformation sequence, I guess, spaghetti limbs coupled with hammered in 3D feels very off to me.
That and while I loved the BGM of the original series, the music in the new one sounds completely uninspired and taken out of random jrpg #n+1
