I'm a little bit sad so many people seem to dislike the show, I think it's really good, the Black Moon arc has been incredible so far and I really couldn't care less about not so great animation, kf that was an issue I could never watch the original anime again because despite what some people may think, that was not the standard of the time, Sailor Moon was a cheap and at times shoddily animated series.

The first couple of episodes were really bad looking, with a lot of derpy faces. There were also a lot of pacing issues, cut comedy scenes (why would you do that?) etc. I'm still sour on the two final episodes of the Dark Kingdom arc - so many static shots with monologues in the background; it felt as cheap as the final episode of original Evangelion anime.

However, The Black Moon arc episodes are really good so far. I really hope they will continue with the show. I need my Uranus and 5 Witches.

Yeah people should really stop harping on how the show looks. The original anime and PGSM didn't look stellar, either.

Indeed, they were good though. Just like Crystal :p

I only caught up on Crystal the other day (went from just before the end of the Dark Kingdom arc up until the episode before this latest one) and just watched the latest episode.

I've very much enjoyed the series. It's been very good. I hope to see Neptune/Uranus, etc in Crystal eventually as well :D

Yeah, the first few eps had some pretty bad art in it, but I think they've done better later on in the show. Still wish it was touched up more and shaded, but I guess that's what the blu rays were for. The big disappointment with it being an ONA series, bi-weekly, and delayed for like a year, was that you would THINK it would've had top-notch animation like Ufotable etc. What's weird too is how they've been using random comedy shots. I mean, NOW the show is supposed to be series, and then we're getting Venus getting all pouty? :p

As for the show, I've been busy lately and before I was REALLY looking forward to each and every episode. Now, I'm still enjoying it, but I constantly forget what week it is, and have it show up (or this get bumped on my sub list) it's more a pleasant surprise. Looking more forward now to Digimon Tri, and well, Toei was Toei on that too -_-

I've been watching Crystal since it started and I have to say that I feel that it's definitely improved. Hopefully we get to see the whole manga adapted. Darn another three week wait though.

Yes, hopefully but if it happens we'll have to wait, nothing has been announced so far. I wouldn't be surprised if Crystal 2 starts in mid 2016 if we get it.

No new episode tomorrow. Sorry if this has been discussed, but any word on what the TV broadcasts are like? Just the Blu-Ray versions, or further improved?

Seeing all the inners + Pluto in the same shot was very cool.

(I love the way they drew Jupiter there as well)

The faces were a bit wonky in this episode, but still not as bad as the first few episodes.

I was "meh" on the long group transformation sequence until I realized, this is probably the last time we see them transform in Crystal, which makes me kinda sad.

Black Lady's voice actress is very good.

My only complaint design-wise is that their faces defaulted to a smile in most of the shots even when it wasn't quite appropriate.

There was something else about this episode that I liked, but I couldn't put my finger on it.

It's the fact that the inner senshi all got their own dialogue, and weren't just finishing each others sentences as a group unit like they seem to do whenever they are together (where they seem to lump them all together into one "Inner Senshi" character)

That's kind of how I felt about the last couple of episodes.

Wont happen, but I'd love to hear "La Soldier" in this series.

We'll have to settle for watching the Wiseman fight and playing it on full blast in the background. I'm gonna bet it'll be better than whatever they DO use.

It's too late to tell them to license something better? I feel really bad for the cast since they have to do double work.

But the cast gets paid for double work. And finding work at all is a serious concern for small-time actors.

And it's not quite double, because 90's Sailor Moon had 200 episodes, and if they stick with 13 episodes per-storyline, Crystal should end up with 65 episodes.

They're following the manga so Crystal will have 60 episodes if it continues.

13 is a somewhat typical "block" size in TV programming.

Sailor Moon Crystal's first "season" commitment was 26 episodes, which means it's two blocks long. And they stuck two storylines into it. The first story was 13 chapters of manga, but it used 14 episodes. The second story is 11 chapters of manga, but they have 12 episodes available. Having two blocks in one season game them a bit of wiggle room.

IIRC, Crystal was renewed for a second season, but I don't know if it's 13 or 26 episodes. But it doesn't really matter. The show might just take one year longer to complete, provided it doesn't get cancelled.

I think they'll stick with roughly one season per-block, and if they're given a couple more episodes to work with (13 episodes x 5 blocks = 65), they'll find a use for them. That's how filler is born.

They did 26 episodes because the first to arcs cover exactly 26 manga acts, 14 for Dark Kingdom and 12 for Black Moon (with Chibiusa falling out of the sky at the end of act 14 in the manga as well), the matched them up exactly, there's no reason to assume this would suddenly change for the other arcs.

Sadly it wasn't renewed at all, the "second season" Toei europe referred to is the Black Moon arc, they later clarified that.

And I'm aware that tv shows in Japan usually do 1 to 4 cours with 13 episodes each but very few shows actually match that number, they're usually a bit shorter due to preemptions etc., in fact the only Sailor Moon season that managed to really fit into that schedule was SuperS with 39 episodes all the others did not. So Crystal not fitting exactly is not a big deal. A second season covering the last three arcs would have 34 episodes, that's an very good match for a three cours show.

You're using the wrong chapter count. The reprints reverted back to the original monthly chapter lengths which means more chapters.

And the renewal stuff was all a misunderstanding.

I loved Pluto struggling with leaving her post a lot, it's not an easy decision, it's too bad she only arrived in the last moments of the episode, I would have liked to see a few moments of her interacting with the villains.
Diana taking Pluto's place was awesome although it's obviously just a gesture, there's no way a kitten can guard the gate unless she stops people trying to get through with cuteness. :D

I kinda just assumed that Pluto never "grew up" and that being the Guardian of Time she always just kinda was an adult.
I think it's rather shitty of (Neo?) Queen Serenity to give such a job to a child and leave her there to never make friends or live an actual life.

Also time based shenanigans but like, who was guarding time before Pluto was given the post? or does it all just.. round out due to paradox crap?

Pluto's backstory is awfully confusing.

It only gets more confusing from here.

All I can think the whole time I sit through an episode is: "This was so written by a woman."

Every plot seems to boil down to her boyfriend being stolen by another woman, and Sailor Moon using love and feelings to resolve conflict rather than her actual super powers.

I also kind've wonder watching this if this is the real reason Hunter x Hunter is always on hiatus. Like is Togashi constantly getting snatched up by another woman, and do the ensuing marital issues get in the way of his job?

I mean this was probably written before she started dating him, but it still makes me wonder.

So far, I think I prefer Toei's version of Sailor Moon over this.

And I would say the original anime is a woman's story rewritten by a man.

The entire series is about Usagi's love for Earth and the people on it, and her power is the manifestation of that. If that bothers you, you probably won't want to continue past this arc.

Although I like the series, I can see how Mamoru getting kidnapped plot happens way too often, as well as the whole "brainwashing to become evil" thing.

Through my favorite arc is Stars, which plays those two plot points up in spades...

Pretty good ep this week, and now I'm actually really looking forward to the climatic fight.

I wonder if Toei will officially announce the second half of the series. Surely they won't just cut in the middle of the story... Actually I saw the numbers for video sales in Japan from last week I think it is, and the latest Crystal volume was in second place (I think 1 was Big Hero 6) so that would be a good sign :)

Just saw the episode.

Prince Dimande is an underrated villain, one of my favs.

Usagi/Mamoru/Chibiusa love triangle is still weird as shit, though.

Agreed on both. Always had a soft spot for Dimande. For some reason I just pity the guy. And yeah the love triangle is just... they are a freakin family! Stop picking favorites and care about both!

Episode 16

It only has my attention because Ami episode.

Could they not even afford Wiseman's hand animation? Stay losing, Crystal.

I have a strange feeling that we will make it to the S Season (Death Busters, Uranus & Neptune) because the positive feedback. I'm here for the Star Season to be honest. Would be interesting to Galaxia's manga storyline transformed into the anime.

Also, Chibiusa is annoying still to me.

Yeah, this is a LOT better than the first season, but that's really not saying much. It's still lazy, reusing the same music left and right, and it pales compared to R.
