Yeah, this is a LOT better than the first season, but that's really not saying much. It's still lazy, reusing the same music left and right, and it pales compared to R.

Very. The original anime version of the R Season is epic. Not taking away from this one but I would rewatch the original anime over this anyday.

Wow, the Rubeus Cheerleading Squad left the picture fast. I'm guessing these twins are manga villains. Dead in an episode. Yep, that's Takeuchi storytelling.

I am really unhappy with Wiseman. Demande is great, but the rest of the fam are weak. Especially Esmeraude. No dragon or Wiseman manipulation?

He's no longer a threat, just a crotchety old man.

MOTD don't exist in the manga like the original anime. Or rather, the MOTD in the manga actually have some character behind them.

I'd rather have a MOTW who has character with smaller MOTDs that also have personality, even if they're gone fast. The four sisters had way more personality in the first show. Here they're just a body count.

I will say the added background on Death Phantom and Black Moon is pretty great, but they're all that's getting development. It was at the sacrifice of everything else.

Though, I like how Usagi actually gets to kill the sub-bosses in the manga. After R in the anime, the sub-bosses were either talk no jutsu'd or killed themselves. Rather annoying.

You do have your MOTW under your definition--Esmeraude, Rubeus, Saphir, and Demande. This wasn't some weekly shounen manga that needed a new fight each chapter (equivalent of four fights per monthly chapter).

The only reason people are expecting more out of these characters is the original anime took a month's worth of content and spread it out over multiple months. The manga gives more weight to these MOTD's than the anime ever did. What more could you feasibly want?

So will Pluto actually end up doing shit beyond talk no jutsu on Black Lady to make her return to small lady so she can become sailor chibi moon?

Eh, they still feel thin. The only one getting any real screen time is Demande. The rest just show up, say threats, and leave.

Heh, my friend thinks the show would be better if Neo Queen Serenity ruled a dystopian kingdom to fuel her need for pancakes.

Yea, vis a vis Dark Moon, the original anime handled the supporting villains so much better then the manga while the manga had the superior main villain.

Did I just see a still frame of the group floating towards each other? Like they were cut out puppets?

Budgeting!

Okay, Wiseman's manipulating of Demande and Saffir is a little better. Still not that fond of new voice, though. (Or his lack of animation.)

I guess I've underestimated SMC's popularity, most images on Tumblr of Wiseman are from it.

This is what I'm accustomed to, though.

Why doesn't he ever move his hands now? Yeesh.

I like that he has more background, at least, but my kingdom for his old voice.

It probably doesn't have to sell that well between all the merch sales and such. I'd be truly shocked is Crystal s2 isn't announced

I may have contributed that that (SH Figuarts). For the few cons I've been to within the year, the SM merch depleted very quickly off dealers' shelves.

And given that the show was animated on a budget that's so tight even Margaret Thatcher would think it's being cheap it could probably sell in the triple digits and be alright.

So Toei hosted a SMC event yesterday

...

That was basically there to fellate the musicals, shill volume 10 of the BRs and cock everyone around regarding Season 2.

This is officially stupid, rhetorical and transcendent.

I can't even begin to think of a franchise that has been bungled this badly and for this long. I mean, christ, even Superior Spider-Man had something to it.

Whenever a game uses "middleware," I expect mediocrity. Just see how poor TLOU looks.
This art on this show is still a low budget mess and it's missing the charm from the original series. For me, despite the filler, 90's anime Sailor Moon >>>>>> Crystal.

Though, I still hope Crystal makes it far enough to introduce my favorite villain, Nehelenia. I can't see that happening though :(

Sonic Generations underwhelmed me. I do like the cartoon Boom though.

The manga re-release of Sailor Moon was decent (2011-2013), and some people like PGSM (2003-2004) too.

I wonder how well Crystal is actually doing commercially...

It sells around 2k-3k per each bluray release. Do not consider good compare to the others. At this point Sailor Moon can pretty much only sell to old shrinking audience while not be able to make up the new one. And bad quality play a huge part to that. Even some old fan start to leave it.

The only person you have to blame for that is yourself. They never hinted to any kind of announcement, the cast has been talking about "wrapping" things up for weeks, and special events such as these are extremely common in the anime industry.

Excuse me to hell, then.

I'm not in the business of renting out auditoriums to participate in a round if unwarranted dick waving but if a company were to do that it would be Toei.

Heh, Miss Dream posted some news about an SM S casting. I thought it was for a Crystal adaptation of S, but it turns out it's for a new theatrical production.

Looking forward to the next ep but at the same time, sad it will be ending :(

Wow. The quality of episode 25 is surprisingly well done. I know it is because we are now nearing the end. But damn, if they could keep this drawing / editing and story telling stable for the whole series.

Sailor Moon Crystal Episode 25:

Okay, this is the episode I have been waiting before because it really does showcase how screwed over Sailor Pluto got in the original anime and it is nice to finally see her with some agency and a character arc in animated form.

This was probably the best episode in the entire Crystal adaptation.
Top-quality stuff rivaling the hallmark moments of the classic 90s anime.

It's weird seeing all this stuff now, that 90s anime waited until S to show. Namely Sailor mini moon, Pluto's 3 taboos, and Diana.

Come to think of it, Pluto was barely a character in Sailor Moon R. I think she pretty much just let them through the time gate, and then was never seen again.

Pluto was barely a character in all of the old anime seasons.
Crystal is easily her best treatment outside of the manga and I'm not sure it's debatable.

Yeah. It is like entirely new story. This shows how enormously edited the old series were. I feel that crystal has a lot more potential if the director do it right. Too bad.

That was a really nice episode. Great performance by Pluto and Black Lady.

I only wish the show didn't try to adapt the manga shot by shot (more or less). It really hurts the pacing. There are episodes where you've got several minutes of boring info dumping, and then there are episodes like this where: two major characters die, one character has a character-changing (literally) moment and a great battle scene occurs. It is so uneven.

Also, I know it's a popular movie/cartoon cliche when a character dies and talks for few minutes before dying while everyone lean over her... But I found it funny that Sailor Scouts and King Endymion were crouching over Pluto and ignored that both Black Lady and Mamoru (who might or might not be still under her spell) are also well and alive and in the meantime could easily grab two silver crystals out of Demande's hands. And what was Demande doing between realizing he doesn't have crystals anymore and dying at the hand of Wiseman?

And I feel really bad for inner senshi, they are so useless and underdeveloped in this show. You could replace them all with a single character (well, the show already did this when Mars, Mercury and Jupiter were abducted) and you wouldn't notice a difference. At least that one character would have more than two lines of dialogue per episode. :|

Those random jumps in quality were crazy

If only the whole show had this kind of quality. Some of those shots were really nicely done. :( It's hard to believe it's from the same show as, for example, this shot:

One of the frames is a little off though:

I wonder: how the hell stuff like this happens? This isn't some computer generated thing - someone must have deliberately draw it that way. And even if it's a transition frame, it's still weird and once you notice it, you can see that it looks out of place even during the animation.
