COMPLETE SMACKDOWN SPOILERS FROM PHILADELPHIA, PA
by Mike Johnson @ 11:18:00 PM on 2/22/2005

Ashley Colton called in the following results from tonight's WWE Smackdown tapings in Philadelphia, PA:

Smackdown

*A video proclaiming JBL's Celebration of Excellence tonight as he's the longest reigning WWE champion in a decade.

*Also being teased for tonight is The Undertaker vs. Mark Jindrak & Luther Reigns. They also announced Linda McMahon is there and will appear later tonight.

*WWE tag Team champions Eddie Guerrero & Rey Mysterio defeated The Basham Brothers in a long bout.

*Backstage in the Diva locker room, Orlando Jordan invites the women to JBL's celebration.

*Kurt Angle defeated Matt Martel (Striker from NYC independents and 3PW). Martel was announced from South Philadelphia. When Angle asked him what it felt like facing an Olympic Gold Medalist, Martel asked Angle what it felt like to lose to John Cena. Angle slapped him. He made Martel tap out with less than a minute left. Tazz got into the ring to congratulate Angle for being undefeated and asked him about the Shawn Michaels challenge on Raw. Angle teases speaking, then throws down the mic and walks away.

*They showed a limo showing up for JBL's celebration.

*Heidenreich read a poem. Josh Matthews came up to him and brought up Booker T, and he recited a poem about Booker.

*Orlando Jordan helps JBL get dressed.

*JBL Celebration - JBL's celebration has catering and a live band, and guests. The Bashams and Orlando Jordan came out, followed by JBL. They had a musical tribute to JBL and presented him with an oil painting of JBL. Big Show hits the ring and trashes the set, but is taken down and tried up in the ropes. John Cena hits the ring and breaks the oil painting over JBL's head. Teddy Long announces Big Show and John Cena vs. JBL and Orlando Jordan later tonight. The segment took 40 minutes, including set up and breaking down the ring.

*WWE Cruiserweight champion Chavo Guerrero pinned Funaki. Paul London hits the ring from the crowd and chases off Guerrero.

*The Undertaker defeated Mark Jindrak and Luther Reigns. Taker pinned Jindrak while Reigns and Jindrak argued and brawled with each other with the agents pulling apart.

*Teddy Long said it might be his last night as General Manager. Carlito Caribbean Cool comes out. Linda McMahon, via satellite announces that she's read the petition but Long's decisions were in favor of Smackdown fans so he's retained as GM.

*Big Show & John Cena defeated WWE champion JBL & Orlando Jordan.

Typical *meh* Smackdown. Way to build momentum into WM21.

Guzim he got a hell of a push at the No Way Out PPV in the 6 man cruiser match. He pinned 4 people, only to get screwed by Chavo to get the title.

Geez Louise.

At least it's a better payoff than when Ultimate Warrior was doing the "appear and disappear in a cloud of smoke" in WCW. They brought out a ridiculously oversized "Nitro Prize Cart" and placed it up against the ring while they spent a few minutes throwing t-shirts into the crowd. It took longer than it should've, and they did the same thing after Warrior "disappeared" again.

I cared ... until I actually read them and saw nothing great happens. Too bad Teddy Long is staying GM. Hell I rather have Stephanie back as GM. She's annoying, but at least her big jugs are something to look forward too.

It's so predictable Cena is going to win the title at Wrestlemania. I don't even care anymore. I would be happy to see JBL retain at Wrestlemania.

Well at least the good thing is the future after-Wrestlemania brand draft. Smackdown needs it because its really going to suck when Angle (reportedly) retires after Wrestlemania. I'dd like to see Benoit make a return to Smackdown ... him and Eddie can put on some classics again.

Keeping Cena heel would have completely changed the dynamic of Smackdown. Hell, if they'd done what Michael Hayes wanted to do originally - have Cena a tweener, like Austin - his eventual face turn would have meant a lot more. As it stands, he's super-stale, and that's a shame.

Dammit, they need to keep the belt on JBL! At least he's entertaining while protecting America from terrorist attack. :p

Are you insane? Have you forgotten so quickly how horrid she was? Big tits are great, but she spent way too much tv time trying to get herself over instead of the wrestlers. As an on-screen GM, that's not her job - and that's why Teddy Long is far superior in the role. B'lee dat, playa.

Did they remame the show due to bad ratings? "Samckdown" is better than "Smackdown" anyway!!!

(sorry i had to do that)

show sounds..... avarage as usual (will proably watch though as the run into mania is always a must watch for me)

Well Teddy Long is just generic now. At least with Steph you have TWO reasons to be interested in her when she comes out. Teddy Long was a lot funnier when he was the Jesse Jackson racist manager.

Yes Steph is annoying, but leather and low cut floppy dresses > bad acting. :D

Teddy Long would be a little more interesting if he played the race card as a manager - giving Booker T title shots every week no matter what :lol

Still, it's not his job to overshadow the wrestlers, and Steph as GM did nothing but. Plus that performing voice - ugh. She sounds so much nicer in her radio interviews.

I dont give a shit about the regular show I just wanna know if Austin Aries had a dark match or not. Its nice to see London get a storyline though.

**EDIT** Nope Aries didnt have a match but Frankie Kazarian did. I heard this was basically his tryout match.

Brian they'd be insane not to give Frankie a roster spot. Although he might want to reconsider given the current Cruiser siruation.

WHY THE HELL WONT THEY LET THESE GUYS WRESTLE? Are they SO afraid of having them overshadow their heavyweights? ARGH. It's so damned frustrating.

As or Cena, I don't see him winning his Mania match. I do see him winning the rematch though. I just can't see them changing both Heavyweight titles and Cruiser titles on the show.

Paul London hit a dragon suplex at No Way Out. That's a step in the right direction as far as I'm concerned...

Well he's 6'1 220lbs he could prolly use some of the WWE's magic growing herbs and pack on 10-15 morelbs and go it as a heavyweight.

I have heard though that they are looking to really bring the CW division back after the Mania. I read somewhere that they were scouting people like Jack Evans( he'd never make it in the E) and Jay Lethal(I could see him there though) as possible people to sign to help bolster the division.

Prolly all a bunch of crap though.

The crowd was pretty much dead silent during the whole match expect for that and the swinging neckbreaker from teh top rop.

When he did his king kong come on stint no crowd reaction :lol

HHH is prolly still the exact same as when you quit watching. Except he has a mustache now.

Well, I think you can blame that on the fact that he had zero build up until that point. The fans are used to him just coming in and taking some insane bump and then disappearing to the back. Either that, or he's a heat sink completely devoid of any charisma.

He does need to stop the stomping around the ring ridiculousness. It wouldn't hurt to drop the fringe immediately either.

I was at this show. I wrote the spoliers for 1wrestling.com this week. It was very mediocre in person, but entertaining on TV. They seriosuly spent about an hour setting up JBLs celebration. Plus they advertised a dark match main event of Cena, Undertaker and Big Show vs. Heidenriech, JBL and Kurt Angle. But the match never happened. I was very dissapointed with the live experience this time around.
