Either I made up lies about the Boston Bomber or I fell for someone else's crap. Either way, I have absolutely no credibility and you should never pay any attention to anything I say, no matter what the context. Perm me if I claim to be an insider
I voted for him because he was paying me.

The president's black voter support has more to do with his party than his ethnicity:

In 2000 Gore got 90% of the black vote.
In 2004 Kerry got 88% of the black vote.
In 2008 Obama got 95% of the black vote.

While neither party delivers on campaign promises, voting for the one that isn't out there advocating malicious policies seems like one of the only options, doesn't it? Perhaps if republican candidates could resist the urge to use race-related douchebag tactics they'd get more black votes.

Tens of millions of white people vote McCain because he's white. Crickets.
One black celebrity votes Obama because he's black. News.

Damn pork barrel politics.

He wasn't paying me alot.

Damn socialism.

But, there were perks. College aged volunteers. Sexual tension all over the place.

And being tied to a Blackberry every single minute of the day.

The other day my friends were talking about which presidential candidates had the best names.

Can't get much more superficial than voting for a person because of how their name flows off the tongue.

I have no problem with his reason for voting, but the motherfucker is pretty stupid if he actually thinks people only vote for people who look like themselves. It is logically flawed if any minority is ever elected.

If people vote for people because they look like them, how did an individual belonging to an ethnic minority get elected?

Exactly. It's fine if he wants to discuss how dumb he is on TV but I find it quite rude he decides to generalize everyone to be equally as stupid as him.

I assure you, if a famous white actor said "I only voted for McCain because he's white", it would be much bigger news. Famous people attract media attention - news at 11.

Blacks in this case are voting for their own interests. Republicans have written off the black vote by using malicious, and racist, southern strategy tactics as well as supporting the suppression of the black vote.

Figures nobody would even discuss Hurricane Chris's post, too much truth.

The rest of this is stupid, but seriously, that was some mutha fuckin composure on Obama's part when Joe Wilson called him a liar to his face, in front of everyone on the planet.

On some weird level I'm tempted to vote for Romney, even though I never have and never will vote Republican, just because he's a Mormon and I was raised a Mormon and believed in the church for 18 years. Even though I'm no longer Mormon, and am now actually anti-Mormon, there's some sort of tribal or in-group instinct in me, or something like that, that wants to see a Mormon become president.

I think it's exactly because it was in front of everyone during the sotu that forced him not to say anything. It's an awkward place to be. Otherwise if it had happened during any campaign speech i'm sure he would have rebutted Wilson.

This is like voting for a "Good ol' Christian boy" times two. Even as stupid as it is, the "good ol' Christian boy" might actually advocate for laws that follow your belief system...the "black man" will vote like a black man, whatever the fuck that means?

You're fucking stupid, Jackson.

Pretty sure you're wrong. Obama's career is a case study in the delicate transition of a black man telling a bunch of racists that they're quite nice, but really wrong. It's a whole strategy, but some say it's actually his ethos.

People are definitely more sympathetic to people they perceive as 'like' them in some way, whether it's looks or attitude or social strata. So I don't think he's exactly wrong on the idea that a lot of people vote for someone who looks like them, if they're able.

So... How exactly is this different from the waves of people who vote for the Mormon candidate simply because they share the same faith and (possibly) nothing more?

LOL good for you Sam J.

Honestly, I don't get the "They voted for Obama only because he was black!" pushed by Rush Limbaugh and other fools. How do you quantify that and what options did black people have anyway? The Republican Party were race-trolling idiots and they put McCain and PALIN on the ticket, who the hell was going to vote for that ticket? I doubt Sharpton and Jackson got anywhere near as much support as Barack from the black community. That meme is just "u mad" for the racists.

and shame on some of ya'll fake outrage, nice try. z0mg Sam racist!

Clinton wasn't black?

this happens too much on GAF it becomes hot to be shocked and disgusted

It is human nature, we don't talk about it much...

Too true. The faux outrage at someone admitting their humanity is interesting to me, like we're morally obligated to adhere to some higher standard in our selection processes. He's just admitting his criteria. And there's nothing wrong with that.

There's nothing wrong with admitting your criteria, but it's objectively possible to have bad or stupid criteria. There's also nothing wrong with pointing out it's a poor criteria. Of course we don't really know what he means. If he voted for Obama simply because he's black, that's lame. If he voted for any black man because it represents a powerful tipping point, or advances the cause of black people, or because he found both party platforms otherwise interchangeable or undesirable, then "black" could also be a perfectly reasonable criteria. Whereas at this time in civilization, picking a white man because he's white probably doesn't have as many possibly reasonable premises attached.

White people vote white all the time. Who was it that said white people don't like it when the main character isn't white so they would skip the movie? It was in the Is Hollywood "whitewashing" Asian roles?" thread. Though Obama was just very smart and handled the debates flawlessly, that's what made me like him. McKain didn't seem too much of a choice for me. Like the white people and their movie stars, I felt comfortable with Obama, Martin, Eddie Murphy, Denzel, Will Smith, etc.

It's Samuel Fucking L. Jackson. I'm sure there was ZERO sarcasm in his statement, and he was like totally serious and stuff.

Yeah, this. I can't believe so many people are taking what he said seriously. Even if you didn't know who Sam is, it's a pretty obviously sarcastic statement.

There were more than enough good reasons to vote for Obama, but it seems like whenever people announce their particular reasons they say something dumb.

It makes S3E1 of The Boondocks funnier/sadder every year.

Hmmm, I don't think that's any different from somebody who votes for a President because he/she comes from the same state or hometown.

Samuel is just doing what a lot of people do. Vote for somebody that you could identify yourself more with.

I love how so many of his tweets have hilarious forms of the word motherfucker (Moupfacca, Muuphuuccahs, MAHPFAUCCAUHS, MAVENGERFUQQAS, mughuqqa etc). lol

Before I would've voted for Obama for the same reason.

Now for this election and now eligible to vote I'll still vote for Obama because he's a good President.
