So, I'm watching Saving Private Ryan on ABC and I just heard one of the characters say plain as day:

"You want your head blown off you fancy little f*ck? Don't you ever f*cking touch me with those little rack claws again. Get the f*ck back in formation."

Err.. so suddenly it's okay for ABC to show a movie that says "f*ck" multiple times just because it's veterans day and it's a war movie... or did I miss someting?

That's exactly right. Been doing it for years.

Didn't they already show this movie once unedited on tv? I could have sworn they did. In fact, I know they did, because I watched it and never watched it before that.

Suprised me too when I started watching it. It's completely unedited. Yes, because it's a war movie and it's Veterans Day. They said this before the movie started.

"Rat." "Rat" claws... Now, get the fuck back in formation.

goddamit, Griese!
Some movies deserve to be aired on TV unedited, no matter how explicit they are.

Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's List, etc.

I can't wait for the day someone finally shows Life is Beautiful...if it ever happens. One of the best movies ever made imo

Both movies (Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan) are contractually obligated to be shown unedited. aka if shown on network TV they must remain unedited.

Both movies have been shown before on network TV (SPR twice before) and the FCC hasn't said boo.

and for the record, prior to Bono saying fuck on the grammy's, you actually could say fuck on TV as long as it wasn't meant in a sexual manner. the bono thing was actually dropped under this rule but now saying fuck at all is supposed to be bad (though not necessarily illegal), although it is being "waived" for SPR.

Well here the Cleveland affiliate is playing Batman Forever instead... WTF?

Ah well, something that is meant ot be a tribute for our veterans gets shot down (no pun intended) by Janet Jacksons ugly ass tit.

$50/hour, but no kissing on the lips and colors must be pre-separated

It's okay to say "fuck" on the forum too. It's not okay to have a furry avatar.

Time to get my gun.

That's the girl cat from the Heathecliff cartoon. That would be like saying Looney Tunes are furries.

I really hate what furries have done.

NBC showed Shindler's List uncut, and ABC shows Private Ryan. Even though the FCC doesn't say anything (as both movies are viewed as educational by them), the networks have insurance. When Shindler's was aired, they showed it with "limited" commercials as there was only one sponsor. That sponsor agreed to pay any FCC fines that the network got. The thing right now is that local stations are worried that they will be singled out and fined, and the sponsor insurance doesn't cover them.

jesus the religous right have got the US by the nuts!!!

I watch unedited movies on free to air tv all the time. The sponsors have no probs, the stations have no probs and the viewers don't seem to have any probs.

At the start of the movie it explains what's involved. So u get "the following movie has sex scenes, strong language, horror, adult themes, strong violence." And this is also listed in the tv guide as MA15+ s, l, h, a, v. If u cannot deal with this, or u don't want the kiddies watching u have the choice to turn off, change channels or otherwise entertain yourself.

Welcome to Australian television and most other tv markets but not the US where sex and profanity are obviously more dangerous than guns.

The Austin affiliate played Lethal Weapon 3.

Thanks guys, we really appreciate that. Instead of showing a realistic movie about death and war, I see Mel Gibson and Danny Glover wisecrack while numerous cops and criminals get murdered, teaching us death is fun or something. Thanks FCC, you have made us better once again.

Well I saw it uncut here in SoCal. Came in at the same part (about guard the bridge).

Anyone know what the ammo runner asks the German before he shoots him?

As explained in the other thread, the hours of 10pm to 6am in the US are the FCC's "safe harbor" period, where you can play indecent or profane (but not obscene) material with a warning. So, if ABC puts up a caveat before the movie (and probably periodically between commercial breaks) saying "this is violent and contains strong language, please use discretion while viewing", they're golden.
