McWhertor is from Polygon and and was at Kotaku for years.

Someone light the press sneak fuck signal.

Promoting a game doesn't make a game good.

But Bayonetta 2 was fantastic, and W101 was pretty good when given a chance.

So was MAD WORLD, anarchy reigns, vanquish. I mean anarchy was a budget beat'e up but fuck was it fun. Vanquish is a 84 on metacritic, MADWORLD is a 81, bayonetta 2 was a 91, and wonderful 101 is a 78.

All relatively good decent games.

It's worthless to them though, I feel the'd pass it off or sell it cheap if they get an offer.

MS would want to recoup what they spent.

All the companies would be buying is an unknown IP and years of debt and dedicated design and engine work on a platform different from their own.

No way they touch it unless platinum has a plan to Duke nukem forever the shit out of it and take the pieces of what they have and get something out the door within a short time frame.

Wait, really? Where the hell did that money all get put? The product they had when it got shut down was nowhere near indicative of that. No wonder it got killed.

Well the one sided story from a few devs working on it claimed they wanted to do fable 4 but microsoft came along and wanted it to be a f2p mmo like game which they were not experienced in doing and did not want to do it. So you had a dev team given a project they didn't want to do which always spells disaster.

https://www.vg247.com/2016/05/12/li...rittier-fable-4-instead-of-75m-fable-legends/

Then the phantom dust devs claim that 5 million was not enough to make their game but ms refused to give them 2 million more. So from my view, this tells me their gaming division might have less funds and are trying to fund games with a restricted budget these days. Makes sense after the 75 money sink in fable and now scalebound. Will probably only get worse.

It really does seem like MS isn't interested in single player games and wants game on the level of say league of legends that can last for years making money which is what they wanted with fable most likely.

Though these are just stories from the devs. Rare could be put to use on more than just the multiplayer looking sea of thieves vs good single player games so it does seem to add up.

Dude, it's not complicated. Gears of war III came out in 2011, by January 2011 the Xbox 360 was at over 50 million consoles sold worldwide.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_sales

The Xbox one isn't even close to that right now. Not even close. If you don't think that has an effect every one of their franchises then you're absolutely insane.
You're missing his point.
That wasn't the first Gears to sell better than 4, the number of consoles is not the only issue. By your logic, Judgement should have outsold 3.

Very disheartened by this news. Was one of the reasons I was hoping to grab a One S down the line.

As a big fan of Platinum, I hope they land on their feet.

Also hope MS starts getting more new IP in the works. I really want to see them expand on what can set their console apart instead of constricting it.

He means more QUALITY titles for Xbox Players. It seems Musclebound was going to disappoint many.

I can see Scalebound disappointing some people (as well as pleasing others); but that's not how it works. Removing Scalebound doesn't automatically improve the quality of anything else; if nothing you only lost one me game that if maybe got delayed, it could actually improve.

I just think it's weird to say that it's a good thing that the Xbox players have a one less game to play in the end.

Their highest game on metacritic as shown above is Bayonetta 2.

OK? So games that are in the 80's on metacritic are not good is that what your saying? Not every game or developer makes 90+ rated games. My point was the games were mostly good it's just they didn't find an audience because they never got a bog push because of the publisher they were with. Scalebound was being pushed by MS who had a lot of muscle behind it more than anything sega has done for Platinum.

Until you and I have the facts, it is probably best to stop the name-calling, corporation or not.

True, but given the history of both companies involved, I doubt it is the fault of Platinum. It could be that MS was just asking for too much.

It's weird for a Platinum game to get cancelled like this because it is a studio that I associate with efficiency.

Blah, that's a real bummer, especially for Kamiya.

At least we have NieR.

If MS fucked over Platinum I swear to god...

I believe a poster in this thread named Matt is a developer. Or at least close to people who do.

He didn't accuse MS of anything in THIS situation but he did say Milestone meddling is a way to help shutter a project and that MS HAS been involved in this practice before.

It's just seeming that there is enough evidence mounting even if circumstantial that MS was meddling.

Assuming there is a game worth salvaging for another publisher

Would MS even be prepared to move on the rights? I think maybe not because this is already a massive PR blow and the game coming to fruition would just be another.

RIP Scalebound.

Hey, journalists - maybe don't tweet your insider knowledge in vague statements but write an actual article? Either it was off-record or not. Don't tease with information you have if you have reason to believe it's true without actually giving it to us.

OK? So games that are in the 80's on metacritic are not good is that what your saying? Not every game or developer makes 90+ rated games.

You were saying the games were poorly rated because Nintendo didn't promote the Wii U: that is a completely irrelevant issue.

Independently of prior statements I disagree on the critical reception that Star Fox received anyway.

This fills me with sadness and rage but no surprise.

Me neither.

MS, like any mega-corp, will not hesitate to leverage their superior bargaining position to just about anyone else when it serves their purposes. I say this as someone who saw first hand working for a company that worked with MS on a daily basis.

Again though, every large company does this. My wife works at Johnson & Johnson and they do what we would probably call "shady" things to their partners all the time to pressure them into doing things that would be beneficial to J&J.

If you work at a company like MS and you aren't utilizing your size and power to your advantage in bargaining and contracting, you really aren't doing your job.

How on earth is the Scorpio going to do any better than the XB1 when MS will still be pushing the same old, tired franchises and their diminishing sales?

The first 4 years of this gen (including this year) you would have thought MS could have established at least one exclusive franchise that they could have exploited on their next console but there isn't one I can think of outside the fading big three of theirs, and those, as we have seen with their sales and general reception, are likely not going to be the marquee title they need to sell the Scorpio.

The disparity between the games you can only get on a MS console and those that you can only get on a Sony or Nintendo console is like a widening chasm. It's fucking night and day at this point. The longer this carries on the higher the danger of gamers thinking to themselves 'do I really need Xbox?' and the higher the chances they switch to rival consoles and/or a PC permanently.
Agreed on all points. I have wondered if the original Titanfall had been a bigger deal and helped them stay competitive in 2014, would they have tried to utilize it like Mass Effect? A "console exclusive" from a developer they do not own, that becomes heavily associated with the Xbox brand.

I think a lot of this problem started from 2009 onward. MS became very comfortable relying on Halo/Gears/Forza/Fable, and the fanbases for multiplatform shooters primarily being on Xbox 360. Fast forward to 2013, and the shoehorning of Kinect and resulting MSRP difference between Xbox One and PS4 completely flipped the script on them. This year will be pretty fascinating to see what their approach is.

I'm sure such an article (probably more than one) is on its way.

Looking forward to MS getting exposed once again in a full editorial. Scum company as per usual.

I wonder what they would get exposed for? Game wasn't progressing the way they wanted. Its MS money to spend or not. I guess that's "scummy". Looks like a business decision they made with their money.

Something smells bad here. It's not as if Platinum have either a reputation for really late delivery, shoddy engines or subpar games. Maybe they hit a dud here but I'd be amazed if MS wasn't to blame in a large capacity. Kamiya seems to have balls, so maybe he should come out and spill the beans.

Edit: The last bit sounded assholey - edited to be more line with what I wanted to say.
