David Veale and his colleagues from King's College in London have done a meta-analysis of 17 studies that in total measured over 15000 penises from all over the world (with an overweight of white ones, admittedly), and found these results:

So the "normal" penis size when erect is 13 cm (5.11 inches) in length and 11,5 cm (4.5 inches) around.

I honestly thought most men would have been bigger
I'm in the 99th percentile, boo-yah!

The more surprising part is how small the range is, disregarding outliers. Society makes such a big deal out of nothing.

17 cm means your penis is longer than 95% of the population.

They also found no correlation between race and penis size, although the sample size of non-Caucasians and non-African-Americans was relatively small. There is probably bias towards larger penises in the study too, given more confident men are more likely to be involved in volunteering such information.

A graph of the size distribution shows that outliers are rare. A 16-cm (6.3-inch) erect penis falls into the 95th percentile: Out of 100 men, only five would have a penis larger than 16 cm. Conversely, an erect penis measuring 10 cm (3.94 inches) falls into the 5th percentile: Only five out of 100 men would have a penis smaller than 10 cm.

Well, the OT makes it sound like the studies in question actually actively took measurements instead of asking participants (?).

Edit: Went and checked, and yeah, they actually did take measurements.

That has been know for a while, diet and lifestyle are the most important factors when determining size.
