Why does it even matter though? Were you going to stop and have a conversation with all 20 people?

Nah. It's a social experiment for my own amusement. 1 out of 26 is the current tally.

I went over to the east coast a few years ago and the strangers on the street were much friendlier. I've always found it difficult to connect with people in Seattle. My closest friend I got to know in childhood (when we lived in the Snoqualmie Valley) and everyone else I'm close to lives in different states.

I've been running a little test of the people here, to see how many actually make eye contact with me and smile while when we pass each other, walking down the street. So far, 1 out of 20.
they probably saw a creepy dude in the distance making weird eye contact with people and are trying to politely avoid you :p

Today is gorgeous, might head down to the water actually
Indeed....although I've spent most of it painting inside. :(

I was out in my front yard with my dog and a guy walked by walking his dog. I said hi to him and he looked at me like "wtf? why are you saying hi to me?" lol If people are going to be cold or unfriendly then I'm fine letting them be that way, doesn't bother me.

I'm just as guilty about avoiding eye contact when walking down the street. Sometimes I just want to get where I'm going. Other times I'll acknowledge them. No real rhyme or reason.

i'll nod at folks, but fuck your dumb rube face if yer a stranger wanting small talk. i'm not in the street lookin' for conversation. well, unless you wanna give me free validation. i'll take that.

So I've been here for a week, and I'll be staying for the rest of March. So far I really like the city, and I love the food trucks around South Lake Union. It's also been fun to note the very minor differences between Seattle and Vancouver.

For Medical care : UW or Swedish? Have no experience with either, need to find a doctor and specialists.

I used the ER at UW once, and had a pretty positive experience.

I had a baby who then stayed in the NICU at Swedish on First Hill, and that was about as positive an experience as having a baby in the NICU can be.

So yeah, it might depend a bit on what kind of medical care you need, but they're both pretty solid.

Thinking about renting a place in north part of greenlake. It's a block away from Auroa ave. which I heard is kind of scummy...anyone know anything about that area?

The part of Aurora right around Greenlake isn't really that bad, it's when you get further up (roughly north of 90th?) or closer to the bridge that it starts turning into the Aurora we all know and love. There are actually some cool little bars right on Aurora next to Greenlake.

That area is totally fine. We almost bought a house around there. I can't imagine lobbing that close to Uber... my liver would be toast.

Took light rail for the first time today. Rode the route from Westlake to SeaTac and it couldn't have been any smoother. I was really impressed.

Is payment just based on the honor system or something though? I know they have those yellow card readers at the stops, but since there's no one monitoring them or monitoring the entry/exit, I feel like it's easy to hop on for free. I was a bit confused.

Yeah, light rail is great. Once the Capitol Hill station opens, it'll be a quick hop to the airport and no more leaving my car there!

I took the rail from Westlake to Safeco once without paying because my friend I was going with had a payment card but I didn't. I was a little paranoid but never ran into trouble.

Yes, it is honor system but they sometimes have someone go through the train to check tickets. I've ridden it 3-4 times and haven't seen anyone check. I've paid every time though.

Light rail works well. I haven't tried using it to go to hawks/M's games yet but I might try checking out if it's smooth for the upcoming season.

Seriously? They're doing work there now and 2021 is their launch date? FFS! Construction in this city is so effing slow! They can work year round and it is so much slower than anywhere I've ever lived.

2021. We could legitimately have humans on the way to Mars by then.

Blame Tim Eyman and a bunch of other short sighted land developer types who have continually frustrated efforts to get transit funded and built. and this is hardly unique to Seattle. It's an American sickness.

They're not opening until Northgate station is completed, since that is the turnaround point.

Tim Eyman is a pretty big piece of shit. The guy's been fucking with Seattle's public transit for a long time now with his stupid initiatives.

I saw him a couple of times at Mariners games, the man is a walking piece of garbage, even on a personal level.
But you know what, even though the money propping him up has to be a bit stupid, he's not going to win anything meaningful at the state level anymore, eventually, even stupidest of stupid money will figure it out, and he'll have to get a real job once again.

Good news everyone! I am officially moving up your way this summer. Was up there twice this year and loved it, and now my Fiance just got accepting into grad school at UW. After considering our options, we decided we both wanted to try going out of our comfort zone a bit and try the NW area. (Both from the Kansas City area.)

Toto, I have a feeling we're not in Kansas
city
anymore.

Anyway I hope you like great beer, legal weed, awesome sushi, gorgeous scenery, beautiful summers and cool neighborhoods. But then again, there is Bellevue.

If your fiance is going to be at UW, I'm guessing you'll be living in my neck of the woods. North of the cut is great.

Jesus, that place at night, at weekends is a fucking surreal masterpiece. What happens if we have a city full of Microsoft nerds, millionaires, shabby Cougars, and we make it an attractive nuisance to all the shitty cities North and South of it? Fucking random madness. I can't even describe it properly. It's like a tesseract of humanity.

Welcome! Dodge the Eastside, unless you love sterile suburbs and mindnumbing traffic. ;)

It reminds me so much of parts of Orange County. Not that parts I used to willingly hang out in, mind you, but parts.

Thanks for the welcome guys, I'm pumped for the next gaf-meetup and maybe getting a chance to go to PAX this year.

I'm already slowly starting to look at where in the city we would like to live, and the area around greenlake seems nice.

What are thoughts about Fremont and Wallingford?
