Seattle-GAF!

There's definitely a meet going on. We were thinking Saturday night, but that might be the Giant Bomb panel so it might be moved to a different night. I think me, Gill and krae_man are trying to put something together so I'll keep ya'll posted.

Glad to hear some of you made it through queue hell. Sorry to those of you that didn't.

Know what you mean, dude. I'm glad you got yours. Saw you in there stuck in that queue with the handful of us that waited forever. I lucked out and got mine.
Yeah man I was definitely going insane. Glad it's all over.

I went to an Irish pub tonight and ordered a beer. Now I feel like I'm part of Seattle GAF. ;)

(I actually kinda liked it.)

pax is never worth it. it smells something fierce, and the waits to play games are only tolerable if you are under 21 and/or tolerant of nintendo mouthbreathers.

The time that I went to PAX my friend who I went with really wanted to see the Portal 2 demo. So we waited in line for like 2 hours. At the top of the line they ended up pulling me on stage to do the stage demo. After the demo the Valve rep asked for my e-mail address and sent me a special TF2 item in the mail, which I promptly forgot about (didn't play TF2). A few years later I logged on to TF2 and found out that item was crazy rare, and I sold it for a new graphics card and enough enough cash to pay for a couple of years of Steam games. So yeah, sometimes the wait can be worth it.

But yeah, I semi-agree on the show itself. The most fun bits for me were just playing boardgames and the old consoles in the free play area with friends. So might as well just spend the ticket money on beer and have a board game night / LAN party at a friend's house.

Wow I can't believe I missed PAX two years in a row. I had the PAX site up on my browser for four plus weeks. Didn't log on yesterday and missed it. I'm just going to make it a habit to not plan on going to PAX anymore. I'm not paying aftermarket prices.

So who from Seattle-GAF was able to get PAX tickets today? I got mine but almost went insane in the process. Not fun.

I found out about the tickets after 2:00, but I was fortunate enough to grab a monday ticket. A coworker got 4 monday tickets as well. I will atempt to get an earlier date if i can get a good price as the date approaches, but I likely won't be buying any until the tickets are sent.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. My friends and I wanted to attend Pax for the first time this year and now I find out the tickets are sold out. What are the resale value on these things? We were only planning to go for one day. Will they go on sale again or do I have to buy it secondhand? If anybody here is selling it let me know! I need 3 tickets.

I was pumped to go last year...then I got there and went "hrm". No way am I sitting a line for 2 hours to play a demo. The indie booth was fun, and The Walking Dead panel was great though.

PAX is great, but the things that make it fun for me have never been the lines for AAA games or whatever. Highlights are always meeting people, parties, panels and the indie games section. Avoid waiting in line for stuff because there's so much else to do.

they won't go on sale again. make some noise on this thread closer to game time and surely someone will've had something come up.

Doesn't the waitress become more of a prostitute/escort at that point?

No, that's the beauty. It's a real and in some ways life-affirming wonderful story. So you use the story to make a connection, the money is a mere aspect of it and then BAM pregnant waitress.

Those of you that didn't get PAX tickets should definitely still come out to the meetup. You don't need PAX tickets to enjoy the weekend.

Regarding ticket resale for whoever asked, you can definitely find them online but the prices are outrageous (300% mark up outrageous). Your best bet is to check out the PAX thread and see if anyone has extras to sell. I know people bought extras with the intent on selling them to gaffers who missed out.

Pretty much this. Waiting hours for AAA games seems like a waste of time, unless of course you've been there for 4 days and seen just about everything already.

Looking forward to hanging out again this year, man!

Thanks guys. Will do!

Yup. Can't wait to get out of this shithole.

So Seattle-GAF, if you had a choice, would you live in Kirkland, Redmond, or north Seattle? I'm moving soon and I don't really care where I end up living as long as it's not Bellevue.

I live in North Seattle and work in Kirkland. I would not ever want to live in Kirkland. North Seattle for sure.

North Seattle. It's not even a contest.

Ditto. There's a lot of North Seattle though. It includes awesome neighborhoods like Ballard, Wallingford, Fremont, Greenlake, even Ravenna. But it also includes unincorporated Methburg and Cracknolia.

North Seattle is my least favorite part of the city and Kirkland is my favorite east-side burb, and still, it's not even a contest, not even the same league, north Seattle all the way.

I would generally try to be a south as I can in north Seattle though.

Okay, I can decipher Cracknolia (Magnolia), but Methburg? I can't figure that one out.

Airways (Kent) cans as does 7 Seas (Gig Harbor). They're both good, but Fremont Fremont Fremont. Love Fremont.

Oh yeah, Hilliard's Saison is also fantastic.

Hilliard's is pretty great. The bar is pretty fun too and they have the "chrome satan" which is pretty darn good, but it isn't canned.

God. North Seattle, all the way. I think the Eastside is more for people who are older, want to start a family and don't mind the absence of nothing to do.

If I end up staying in Seattle longer than two more years (which I'd doubt I will), I'd want to move to Issaquah/Redmond for this exact reason. No joke.

If you're young, live in North Seattle. There's not really a discussion to even be had.

Chrome Satan is fantastic. I've had the Saison, but not really into the style.

You guys are gonna have to teach me about beer at the next meet up. I usually just ask for a Guinness, and if they don't have that I'll just drink whatever the person I'm with orders.

I have no idea what you're talking about in about 75% of the beer-related posts.
