My ping is usually between 60-80. Also in EU. Not having any lag issues.

Yes it's really sad seeing people throwing their money at brink when it looks like Prejudice is the far superior multilayer fps.

Agreed. Brink needs patching while Prejudice is bug-free out of the box. Definitely worth way more than $15.

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?
Decided to pick this up on a whim tonight (PC). Any tips for a newbie? Also, how long is the campaign as I'm planning on pushing through that real quick before moving on to the multiplayer.

About 4, maybe 5 hours if you take your time and play on hard.

Real enemy or a VIP? They have escort missions where they spawn in and take a load of bullets to take down.

The other side is how you have your Shield and Armour set. Some weapons burn Shields faster, some work better on Armour. Having a primary weapon for Shields and a secondary for Armour works well.

uh i have no idea. guess i have to play more to learn how the game works :lol

:D

My main advice is make sure you have the Repair Tool. Handy in a scrape, plus you can repair players and deployables etc for bonus XP. Keeping mobile is the key, especially if someone is shooting you. Just do the overdrive thing (Run for a few seconds and it will kick in) Usually gives you enough time to escape and regen your HP/Shields.

What kind of role are you playing?

I have a Sniper class with high stealth armour, more bullet damage and faster movement and jetpack regen. Nice class if you want to hop around and pick people off and you sneak into bases. I also have a Support class which heals people, deploys stuff people need etc. Always handy to have one of these floating around, since you can defend the bases with all the turrets and AA stuff you can deploy.

As for weapons machine Guns are great to have, mainly due to fire-rate and amount of ammo. I usually have a secondary weapon set as a Sniper Rifle, just so you can actually pick people off at range. Really you just play with weapons and see how you get on. As you rank up you will unlock the various ammo types and other bits.

i didn't even know that there are classes and xp. oh god I'm such a noob.
thanks for the bro-tips :D

Any time. :D

XP is gained from everything combat related and objective related. XP=Rank Up=More Gear to choose from.

There are not really set classes but you choose your loadout and abilities which make you either a Tank style class, Medic and Support, Sniper etc but you're free to mix and match what you feel you need. It really depends on how you play. For instance, if you love dive bombing straight into an Objective, the AA guns will kill you. What you can do later is armour up that takes less damage from AA guns etc and just fire on through. Not the best tactic but it works (sometimes)

The main objective for each map is capturing the bases. You hack them, wait a bit and it becomes yours. When you have them, the AA guns now attack enemies, so it will be safe for you to drop in and deploy what you need. Most maps have about 3 of these and the colour they are indicates who owns them.

The sub-objectives appear randomly and you will hear a shout out that tells you what it is, plus a timer or HUD change. These range from Kill all the marked players, blow up a convoy, protect a beacon, collecting scrap around the level and others. You don't have to do them but it not only helps you with XP but you also help your team win. They are marked on the Map and HUD, so its up to you if you want to head there. Most are timed, plus they all involve the other side as well. So if you have to destroy a convoy, the other team just got a mission to escort it.

Just figured out how to change my class abilities, i.e. tanking etc... and this game is STILL fucking hard. Seems like everyone can kill me almost instantly. It's not so bad in groups, but this game is definitely way harder than Bad Company 2. BC2 lets a really skilled single player take on 2-3 other guys and if he's clever enough he can win.

Try to take on 2-3 guys in this game and you'll get raped from all sides.

Yeah, as people level up, they start getting nasty stuff. The Napalm stuff is pretty annoying. :D

As you level up, you can also get more Shield and Armour options (Got the Reactive Plating recently and its pretty good) which help you stay alive a little longer but if you get jumped by a few people, it means death. Since I play Support, I tend to roll around with groups. :p

But S8: P is only a 15 dollar game mang, while brink is a AAA title , you can't even compare them!

Perceived value n all that, SMH.

I've killed a group if three on at least two separate occasions. Secret is to use rounds and grenades that burn their armor after the shield is down. Getting a guy to 25% health, then turning away from him to focus on the next guy.

If Brink really is as broken as I hear it is sad this thread is so small in comparison especially given the dollar value.

So is there much of a difference between the PC and 360 versions? I'm torn on which one to buy.

Huge difference...360 is jaggy as hell and has major framerate issues...PC version is variable but well optimized...I get a solid 60fps on my GTX 460, but then again the game isnt the best looking game out there.

don't really care about them but I've just noticed that the PC version has more achievements. PC has 50 and the 360 version only 20.
well and then there's better graphics, performance, FOV and of course superior controls :p

Well 32 players can all stand in the same place and drop fire so that is probaly why the visuals are restricted.

The 360 version is jaggy but the framerate is fine. I do think the game does look pretty nice. Whiteout is a very pretty map with it's icy drifts and Halo 3 style ice shaders. I do have issue with the normal mapping in the game. Certain objects hardly need what they baked on the them and there is lots of strange texture popping for no reason as well.

Sorry the framerate is not fine...I played the trial and during a match with at least 4 enemies on screen the framerate dropped to what felt like the low 20's and high teens.

I guess people have varying degree's of a "fine" framerate though.

I've probably played about 20-30 hours of the game and the framerate has maintained playability the entire time. I can't tell you what it goes to because there isn't a counter but there has never been a time when I thought it was impeding gameplay or dropping my fire.

I'm glad they don't track accuracy for this game, because I am terrible. Partly because I'm not used to the game yet with all of the fast and often vertical movement and partly because I haven't played a PC FPS since 2003 (BF1942).

But I think it's a strength to the game that despite my poor K/D ratio, a) I'm still having fun & b) I'm still able to contribute to the team. I've been enjoying the support role a lot. Repairing players and deployables and doing some assist-worthy damage to attackers.

Servers were more popular last night as I've noticed before. A nice improvement. Didn't have any trouble finding a server for any game mode, some with bots, some just players.

Pretty pleased with my purchase.

Yeah it's a lot of fun. The vertical movement bit you mentioned is interesting, it's something I've noticed not only with the way I play but the reaction others have to it. Even as a Tribes player, it's been so long since a common shooter allowed someone to rocket up into the air instead of just bunny-hop to avoid incoming fire.

Hell of a lot of fun :)

I reached level 45 yesterday and now I have that extra point to put against my dude! Played a game on Whiteout after than and got 12 kills to 1 death with some decent teamwork scores.

Games for Windows marketplace has this for $9.99 / £7.99 right now, it's not listed in an offer but maybe their new deal of the week or something once the main page get's changed.

I highly suggest buying this beauty.

Huh. Interesting. Yeah, it could use all the help it can get. It wasn't moving on the PC like it was on XBLA. But I liked the concept so I might pick this one up.

New Maps June 1st

TimeGate Studios continues its all-out assault on the shooter market by announcing the release of the Overdrive Map Pack for Section 8: Prejudice on June 1, 2011 for PC and Xbox LIVE® Arcade for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. With two brand new maps, the Overdrive Map Pack further expands Prejudice's incredibly rich game experience and demonstrates TimeGate's commitment to extensive post-launch support of the highly acclaimed $15 shooter. The Overdrive Map Pack will be available on Xbox Live Arcade and Games for Windows Marketplace for 320 Microsoft Points ($3.99).

The Overdrive Map Pack includes two new multiplayer maps, Abaddon and Sky Dock. Amidst the magma craters of Abaddon, protect a power cell facility built on a scalding energy source. Sky Dock is a crucial military base and space port nestled in the frozen tundra. Each map is playable in both multiplayer and offline play for all game modes, which includes Swarm, Conquest, and the recently community-unlocked Assault game mode.

I'm not really looking forward to another lava map with crazy terrain, but new maps are great!

Silly question, but are there any boxed retail options for this?

I had thought there was a timing window of 3-6 months before it could become a retail product but I really doubt that is going to happen.

Thanks, steam/live/psn it is then :)

They fixed the autobalance issue (which split up you and your friends in Conquest mode, even when playing against bots in an unranked, private match) with the latest patch so I've been playing a lot more, with my buddy and by myself, also finished off the campaign mode. This really is a fantastic game. I plan on picking up the map pack soon, I hear it's good.

This assault mode they added is awesome fun. One team is on defend, one's on attack, and the defending team can't capture their bases back. Once the attackers win by capturing all bases, they have to defend for a round and the new attackers have to beat their time. Very cool, reminds me of the old Unreal Tournament assault mode.

It actually bothers me that this thread is so short. I don't think I've played a MP game as much as I have this. The design is so well thought out and the depth on all levels of design is pretty stunning. More people need to try it.

Because so few people play this game. It's a circular argument but I would have bought it if there were more people playing on the PC right now.

I've been really enjoying this game especially for the past week or so. When I first purchased it I would end up playing with the same people whenever I would hop on, but I've been noticing new players recently.

I'm deciding whether or not to get the Overdrive map pack. Can anyone give any impressions?

Yeah I saw that stat image on Facebook.

I finally got to level 85 and the extra 2 points you get help a whole lot.

New map pack on the way too even though the old one doesn't get a whole lot of play.

So this has some form of co op? Under 6 dollars is cheap for a game that sounds solid.

I see the Swarm mode. I don't know if I wanna pay 15 on PSN when I can pay 6 right now on D2D.

Since this thread got bumped, this game is very much worth getting.
For fucking shame on pc gaffers who claim to want adjusted prices instead of 60msrp and then didn't proceed to pick this one up at launch for a measly 15 dollars.

They've tried to do everything right (price, dedis, bugFREE, performs well, rcon tools, no mouse accel) and it's a good game.
