Auto Lock is practically an admission of defeat for a multiplayer shooter. If you have to resort to Lock-on to make the shooting viable, you really messed up. I cranked the auto lock to max and get way more kills, it is sad, but trying to aim legit is just frustrating and makes me worse at the shooters I play that have good aiming models.

Console FPSs typically have several flavors of aim assist working behind the scenes. The cursor will slow down when the reticule is over a target, close misses will turn into hits, autotracking when a target moves under the crosshair, smoothing, etc. On top of that, there's aim acceleration (big analog stick movements are faster than small ones). Here's a nice interview with Uber Entertainment on the subject: http://www.penny-arcade.com/2011/1/24/

S8:p might not have any of those niceties, on top of being 30fps. I could see how that might make aiming with an analog stick difficult.

I randomly use the Auto-Lock, if someone is miles away and running. Really wasted if you are toe to tow with someone and still cannot hit them. :D Everyone has the ability, so it keeps things balanced but you can also alter your loadout with gear that prevents the Auto-lock.

I still can't download the DLC from the gfwl marketplace, rather annoying.

Anyone else having problems with gfwl not downloading stuff lately?

lol oh my god, tried to uninstall gfwl and now no gfwl titles will launch, nor can I reinstall gfwl client :/ my first problem with the service and all i'm trying to do is reinstall the damn thing.

I had some MS points left over, so I bought the DLC. Installed perfectly for me :-\

It is not. The auto lock is also present in the PC version which controls just fine. I like that it exists, it makes the game less twitch based and more about tactics.

I got this on PC. It's a nice mix of Battlefield and Tribes which I love! Good number of Servers with low ping in Euroland. Haven't touched SP yet...

I don't think the auto-lock is a problem on the PC, you are already pretty accurate with a mouse so its only a slight boost.

Fixed my live problem installing gfwl 3.5 which came out yesterday but the dlc is still not downloading, in fact none of my games for windows purchases are downloading... feck.

Ah well least I can play this game again, just sucks that I threw away points.

It'll be worked out in time. However, GFWL is terribly obnoxious, so I'm right there with you on that one.

I don't think the auto-lock is a problem at all. You typically can't auto-lock long enough to kill someone, its just enough to take down their shields and deal a little damage. I've had times where someone took down my shields but I maneuvered well enough to take them out first, and vice versa.

I don't have a problem with the auto lock either, it's slow to recharge, lasts about a second and you can easily use cover to avoid it unless out in the open but that's always a risk in this game.

I love landing on people on spawn and you can take out most turrets landing on it too, handy tip to remember, I tired landing on a tank and it completely removes it's shields but then you are usually dead after landing.

I am so fucking tired at work today. God damnit, it's hard to stop playing this game during the evenings. Most games work real good with people cooperating to do the dynamic missions mid game. Have been in some teams where people ignored everything, however, and it wasn't all too funny.

Ah yes, forgot to mention how GREAT the DCM's are! They're like side quests in an MMO, and lots of people seem to contribute/help out. I haven't even played this game with friends yet but teamwork is damned strong in public servers at the moments. The escort missions (both sides) are my fav so far.

I was very hyped to his game, bought it wednesday through Steam, I installed it and at first GFW Live didn't connect for me, I thought it was just a Live problem, I created a local profile and played the singleplayer and a few bot games and I loved the game, I like the DCMs, the spawning, the shooting, it's awesome.

But the Live problem connection persisted, and I've discovered it's a problem with the connection, Live and S8P servers are perfect, simply I cannot connect to GFWL. I've played other GFW Live titles (Batman AA, FUEL and Bioshock 2) without problems, and the funny is that now this games cannot connect to GFW Live. And I've spent yesterday and today trying to fix the issue, because I'd LOVE to play S8P, but I've tried all the solutions I've found (and I've called the Live support line), multiple reinstalls of the game and GFW Live, tweaking and checking the network settings, changing router.. with no positive result. I'm not a person who easily gives up, but I'm certainly tired of this shit. So I'll probable uninstall S8P and this piece of garbage called GFW Live :rant over: Enjoy the game people, certainly for that price it's a steal.

So, did they fix the control issues with the first game. If so, I'll bite.

Just hope this retains a community.

That's strange. Did you try just hooking up your pc straight to your modem?

I can't remember the exact name for it, but the LIVE network requires a certain amount of data without packet loss.

Also did you enter the LIVE KEY code when you first tried to connect? I thought maybe it didn't prompt you for some reason.

Edit: Found it.
Your network does not have a sufficient MTU setting. Xbox LIVE requires a minimum MTU setting of 1364.

I had this exact problem when I was using a shitty Wifi connection from Comcast. There's not much you can do if you just have a shitty connection, but I would definitely try going for wired if you're on wifi, and you can also try opening these ports

Port 88 (UDP)
Port 3074 (UDP and TCP)
Port 53 (UDP and TCP)
Port 80 (TCP)

Logging in to the router and checking the MTU setting and changing it. Or just try bypassing the router all together.

I'm starting to get annoyed at the unreal engine netcode, online even on a super good ping I still have to lead all my shots, it's annoying and feels wrong in this game, offline combat is so much tighter and less spammy.

Sniper rifles are really strong and I see more people using them even up close for a noscope easy shot, works better then the shotty sometimes.

It also feels like the game has cod-itus with low health even if you max out the shield and armour skills, you will die quickly and I feel that it's a bit too quick, not every game has to be cod! to compare I feel that I live longer in halo games then this one.

I enjoy the game but those issues are picking at me and I don't know how long I will stick playing the game.

Its hard to get Shield and Armour at good levels, though I have been against some players who took ages to put down. Seems handy to roll with 2 primary weapons, 1 for shields and 1 for armour. I tend to roll with a Machine Gun and a Frag Sniper, even though I play a Support/Medic type of role.

You will find that as soon as your armour drops, you are really squishy. Not much you can do other than die/run away/hope an ally appears. I tend to run around with groups of people and I very rarely solo it.

Really? I can usually stay alive for most of a round, unless I get surrounded and or flanked. I max shield and the repair skills which makes your shield regenerate in a few seconds and then I switch to my repair tool and fix my armor up in another second or two. Works well.

Supposedly the preorder bonus packs aren't single-use codes, so if any one could post them it would be great! Steam pre-orders got the 10% discount instead of a pack.

Yeah I use the tool to heal on my tank class but i dunno, I use cover and everything but end up dead in rather quick time but I think tonight at least the matches I was playing were far from perfect ping.

Is there a way to fave a server? on day 1 the game felt great but since then what seems to be 65 ping is more like 200.

I flat out love the multiplayer in this game. I think it's honestly one of the best multiplayer games I've played. I'd place it right next to my other favorites such as Tribes, Battlefield 1942/3, Team Fortress 2, Halo: Reach, and GTA IV.

There's just so much to love about the multiplayer. I love creating my own loadouts... there's a ton of interesting choices to be made when you create your personalized classes. The dynamic combat missions are wonderful and add a great deal of tension and diversity to an already tense and diverse game. I think all of the maps are fantastic. They're large and open, something I've missed in recent games where they've shied away from openess, fearing it will make the game too unfocused (in this game it's absolutely not the case). The gunplay (using M+KB) feels fantastic and the amount of damage peopel can take feels just right. The airdrop spawning mechanic is interesting and fresh... it's just as fun to choose where you get to deploy as it is to be suddenly reminded that the enemy can do the same (sometimes I'll kills off a group of people guarding a base and then they'll all land right next to me.

Even though there's no skiing with your jetpack it still adds a fun dynamic to the game, especially when you mix in your overdrive sprinting allowing you to make some really massive jumps.

Mostly, I just love how it's a game that allows you to take on a ton of different roles. Whether it's through your uniquely chosen class, the objectives you or your team choose for you, or the dynamic combat missions... there's just so many fun things to do that it's hard to get tired of it. I have a feeling that as excited as I am for Brink I'll probably just come right back to this game as it's exactly the type of game I love the most. Big, open battlefields that give you the feeling of being a part of something bigger and allowing you a great deal of flexibility in choosing how you would like to play the game.

I seem to get creamed one on one too. I play a lot of support and raiding, but have a terrible KD ratio :(

I'm enjoying this game a lot.

However, the fact that you can't be on XBL through your 360 while playing this is pretty lame. My fiance likes to watch Netflix through the Xbox, and couldn't last night while I was playing.

Yeah, that is annoying. You don't need a gold account to play on PC though, so you could always make an alternate if need be.

Read this in the GFW thread...kinda making me rethink purchasing a 360.

Highlight so far is defending a capture point and getting killed, quickly respawning and managing to land right on the head of the person that just killed me. :D I was cheering in real lifel.

Anyone around later on 360 fancies a few games?

I destroyed a mech yesterday that way. So satisfying.

Not really happy with my skill/ability loadouts--anyone have any recommendations?

Wish there was a PC demo as the game looks interesting but the framerate and aliasing issues in the xbox version have definitley turned me off from that version.

It runs incredibly well on my relatively modest PC. I have a Core Duo 3.2 and a GTX260 an d it hovers around 60fps most of the time.

I've finally started to play this game.

The graphics are nice for a XBLA title and it seems full of content. I see the obvious inspiration from Halo and Tribes but the weapons' feedback is a bit off to me.

Protip: pistol is a mid range beast, 6 hit kill if someone is not using too many armour boost stats.

same gfx but c2d 2.8 oc to 3.0 and it sticks at 60 90% of the time, UE3 always ran good for me on this pc.

Still waiting on any sort of tech support that does anything. By all accounts, my machine SHOULD be running this. Holy hell, one of the franchise's biggest supporters and I can't play the damn thing. Piss weak.

Thanks...just bought it because it looks like a cross between halo and tribes and everyone seems to be getting solid performance results. Ill have to stick to the singleplayer for a little while until I can get an ethernet cable run to my office computer (just moved and the modem is on the other side of the house with the 360 and PS3).

Warning about single player, people on the steam forums and myself have had a crash half way into the game to only lose everything apart from online rank since it's stored to your gamertag, I was half way in and won't do it again until they fix the problem.

Joined a match with 60 ping, turns out it was really 120 so all my shots were really badly missing moving targets, quit out and did another search and found two nearly full EU servers, went to join and crash!

I really want to love this game but slow searches, laggy matches and this is like my 4th crash now, one of them being that single player crash which lost my files...

That's odd, I've had no issues with crashing or lag. Don't worry, though, I'm sure they'll get a patch out. Maybe play something else until they do so it doesn't drive you mad?

I've seen very little lag but it has been crashing on 360 a whole lot today. I've been having great games when it does too. I think it is the fire effect that does it.

Even with the crashing this is my GOTY so far, not having played Portal 2 yet. So many great multiplayer matches and some amazing players on too.

By the time the patch releases, I am sure plenty of people will have left the game. One of the problems with XBLA MP games, if it comes out with some serious issues, the time it takes to get out a patch may have already severely impacted the community size.

The community is pretty big it seems. Finding a full or near full server isn't that hard. Once in a while you'll drop into one that have 8 to 12 people in it but that is pretty rare.

We are getting close to three weeks in and they are doing alright for a player base. Sucks for the people who sit on the fence for games like this as they just missed more than enough game time to justify the 15 dollars and when they do get it there will be so many veterans on they will likely get smoked really quickly.

The kill counter is moving up pretty well. Looks like we will be at 10 million kills and playing assault mode by tuesday.

I had so much fun playing this over the weekend. PC Version runs like a dream and i did not have any lag issues. For people that liked Planetside and/or Tribes this is a must play, maybe even multiplayer GOTY. Really takes you back to the days of those great team play and mobility based shooters.

I would love to see some additional conquest maps, but splitting the player base with paid DLC might not be the best idea...

What sort of pings are you guys getting on dedicated servers in your area? the EU ones for me give me 60-120 which means I always have to lead my shots and grenade/rockets more then normal, I find it odd that with low pings they never went with client side detection.

Getting a quite decent ping in eu actually. Haven't even touched the SP, and probably never will. The multiplayer is so fucking good.

And yes, I loved Tribes. :D

Please buy this game. It is SO, so good.

What's funny is that this costs 1/3rd as much as Brink, has none of the bugs, and is more fun.

A really polished, unique experience that deserves your money. If you loved Tribes, get it!!
